It's almost depressing trying to buy an AR15 in Canada

Try as I might I just can not find a midlength AR15 in dealer or private hands for sale :( Been looking for 3 months and nothing. How sad is that?

Any AR15's in fact, well there's the Bushmaster Carbines with the 16" barrels that just look really odd to me, and I'm not that desperate. Yet :( Sad state of affairs man.

The AR situation up here is more Americas fault than Canadas.

There's a 16" mid in the EE right now.

Mid-Length AR's were hard to find anyway. The Carbine and the Full-Length are the most popular.

Ran into the same situation with my 9mm. I wanted the mid since the sights are a little further apart. Had to order it because it wasn't a big seller like the 9mm Carbine which was in stock at the time.

I have the same Bushmaster AR-15 and it does NOT seem odd. Mine also came with the fixed stock (US imposed rule) but I swapped it for a telescopic one. The same AR's are available where I got mine from - Ellwood Epps at one of the best prices you'll get, $1331. Buy it while you can.

And by the way, Bushmaster is one of the best brands of AR-15 that you can buy so don't be depressed and just get one.

If I hadn't bought a bunch of other guns I would have been tempted to buy another one before they disappear from the stores.

Never had a problem getting any gun I "wanted". I just see myself having it, and within a short period time, she's in my hot "little" hands.

People that expect problems usually get them.....

you should know better than that Neal... ;)

BM did a good job in the early 90's - even their ban stuff was not bad -- but when the ban ended they ramped up production to a point their QC really fell.

Thanks

I always wondered about the BM bashing. i bought one way back when and thought it was extremely high quality. By ban you mean the clinton one which ran for 10 years and ended last year or so?

Doesnt BM sell to the us govt?

Thanks X2 Mine has worked fine so I was wondering about this too.
Mine's a Clinton era aka the ban years.I think the ban started around
94 but I am usually wrong.

As Stalin once said "Quantity has a quality of its own" except it mean increased profits for Bushmaster.

I know many will say moot point with our neutered 5 round magazines but I like to have a quality AR (LMT, Colt etc).

If we could get BCM or Noveske N4 line (some came in via Questar) I'd be very happy.

Size Matters - Get the 20" Barrel HBAR, you'll have the longest Shaft!:D
:D

I recently got one but it was quite the effort, but it didn't come in one piece :) I ended up having to buy just about each piece from a different vendor, from both Canada and the US. The shipping fees sucked on 7 different packages, but in the end I got my rifle :) It has Magpul extras on it,just top set it apart from the factory ones, it's a Armalite lower from Wolverine( and they are sold out now), along with a Daniel Defence upper and bolt, carrier assembly, a Armalite barrel stamped 5.56( finding the barrel was the most difficult thing in my opinion).

I'll get a breakdown of the costs when I'm finished building it, but it was no where near what most people are led to believe. Do it yourself and save a lot, for example my upper came out to 600 bucks, compare that to Dlask who charges 1000 for a base upper assembly. Do it yourself seriously, we need as many black rifle owners in this country as possible.

My next goal is to make my 16in barrel a 10 inch barrel, I already ordered the tap/die set for threading the front of it to accept flash supprerssors after it's a shortie. Just need to get my buddy to mill it for me on his lathe.

That doesn't make any sense. If you're having someone shorten the barrel on a lathe and turn down the muzzle end for you, why wouldn't you have him thread it for you as well? Works better than a tap and die, and you save some money as well.

ETA: If you do this don't expect your upper to work properly without opening up the gas port.
