Norc M-14 White Mold on Stock?/Arrived with Mold. (Threads combined)

The box had been opened and the plastic bag was cut open so someone could write down the serial number, I suppose.

The white moss-monster looked as if it had digested most of the wood on my new rifle. It was pretty gross but it cleaned up ok. I'll probably be throwing out the chinwood soon anyhow. I am either grabbing a synthetic stock off the EE or possibly upgrading to a JAE. Sadly the weak Canadian dollar is hurting my JAE plans... I really wish I bought the stock in September.

I wouldn't ever put a really nice piece of crafted wood in a dishwasher. But if the wood quality is low and eventually going to be replaced. WTH
And I wouldn't be worried about handling the mold, (with gloves of course) and giving it a good chemical bath. I would wear a protective mask while cleaning this crap off.

+1 on the JAE, I know some are coming in the country soon through one of the valued dealer-members here. Unfortunately for my plans, the price breaks my budget. If only....

Wolverine can bring them in, but they said not to expect any before March at the earliest. Did other dealer-members have access to them as well?

I was looking for a tan JAE with swat black highlights (pictured). They have some other nice color combos but this is the one I fell in love with.

new synthetic stocks will be availlable soon kiddies. no imports /extra fees necessary. I'm in the process of doing up the dealer membership. Some guys already have a few of my early releases here on CGN. Hopefully a canadian made chassis other than the marstar version will be availlable from a dealer in the future as well. I think Suprathepeg and friends are workin on it.
I like the JAE for bench shooting but for carrying around........ I'd go with another option. I have a buddy who might sell a JAE with the full accessory package in coyote brown or it might be desert tan .... not sure.
 
Just finished cleaning out my M-14s and changing the stock...
Look like my barrel isn't indexed properly, my front sight has a little angle in it, not much, couple of degree off :(
 
that looks like one of the stocks that DaveGP used to make a couple years ago.
these ones are pretty close to the same style but from my workshop :D

Bottom is a 'DaveGP' stock I got a couple years ago. I painted it black with bed-liner.

45ACPKING. I may be putting an order in for one of yours as well. :)
My brother-in-law(Rogers) bought one off you earlier this year. It is Awesome!
 
Well Guys, my norinco just arrived,

covered in the white mould.

Going to give it hell tomorrow with a box of SOS pads, GOJO and some boiling water, then throw it through the dish washer for good measure.

Did you guys say we could throw the receiver etc through the dishwasher aswell?!
 
Those last few pics look exactly like my last 5 rifles. It is really gross as the oily/cosmoliney/moldy finish feels just disgusting. I ran it through the dishwasher and it is stripped off. I checked for any mold but there doesn't appear to be any left on the stocks. I am refinishing them now with Tru Gun Oil Finish.

It's a little hard on painted surfaces and I wouldn't use it on a finished stock; but for a preliminary cleaning of the trigger group, flash eliminator/muzzle brake and gas system parts it's hard to beat.
The next time my M93 is all gunked-up from kids shooting a brick of cheap ammo through it, I'm going to use the dishwasher on it.

Why didn't someone like 45 King or Hungry call Splatter on this BS, before a newbie took his advice and ruined his rifle?

How many more guys took his advice and ruined their guns, with you guys happily posting on the same thread as Splatter, giving his BS your apparent approval.
 
common sense, for god's sake....why would you run metal parts through a dishwasher?? This hasn't even crossed my mind, and even if some "expert" suggested this to me, I still would use my own technique and common sense for cleaning my guns' actions, receivers and barrels....:confused:
 
Here is mine after cleaning the metal bits in the sink with soapy hot water and immediately after dousing in boiling water as I would treat after using corrosive ammo... a light oil and re-assembly.

The stock, as previously mentioned was oven cleaner + boiling water x2, then dishwasher (note that I did not remove the internal mag-well frame and it looked like 870s Norc afterwards, but no big deal). After drying it got 3 coats of Tung Oil and a 0000 polish.

It should be noted that this wood is SOFT. I am eagerly awaiting posts in other threads on the Boyds Walnut stock results, as I would much prefer a quality, North American Hardwood, than this Manchurian super-happy-lucky-fun wood.
