Parker hale m82-m87-C3-C3A1 Rifles

Just for you guys info - the pictures are from the guy in New Zealand that bought the butchered C3A1 Unertl mount from the US last year, that I spoke of way back.

He also has an MST-100 in OD green.

I have conversed with him about his project rifle before. He's stated that he'll not be building a clone, but something completely different with his mount and M87 rifle.

Cheers, Carl

Just happened upon some really good closeup pics of an M87's action, so anyone wanting to make a C3A1 build can know exactly what to look for:

Also, pics of an M87, M85 and 1200TX, so they can see what not to look for ;):

I figure with all these pics of bits and pieces, might as well put up the foundation of the real deal.

Guess you might want to specify that the mount pictured is not the Unertl mount you speak of! Got any pics of it, btw?

Also, does this guy still have the M87 pictured there in the original state?

Used the photobucket link and found his butchered mount:

Haven't got a clue what he paid for it.

Neat to see it again. Thanks RH for the photobucket link.

Wow... All this guy needed was the A2 McMillan stock and he could be posting here and laughing.

The CF actually had contemplated in having a picitinney base replace the original Unertl design. This was so they could be more flexible with mounting external night vision devices and scope placement.

I talked with the guy who had made up the protoype mounts for them. I almost had one myself, but he couldn't find the one he had left:(.

Wouldn't be too hard to manufacter one though.

Cheers, Carl

One more, just a better look at the action without the scope:

By the way, the guys also got pics of a destroyed action of the type used in my rifle, and pics of the face of the guy that was behind the trigger when it blew up in his face! Now I'll never be able to shoot without blinking!!

As Carl can confirm, when he and I first saw this mount on another forum, we nearly fell off of our chairs when the pic of the mount was posted asking what it was for. It is in fact a C3A1 mount, but it was welded to a Steven action as you can see it has clearly ripped off hence the hunk of action still welded to the bottom of the base. A good machinest can clean it up to make it work again.

1200tx/c3

Several pages back, I see Redman had asked for a photo of my C3. Well here it is so far. It is the correct 1200TX Mk11. Serial # P 38###, Introduced by Parker Hale in 1973, just in time to sell 300 or so to the Cdn. Military as sniper rifles. This one has a 1/14 Omark barrel, that I will get around to replacing with the original. Still has the PH 5ETX sight installed. The PH5E M82 sight that clamps on to the rear scope mount is sitting on the table. The little bipod has nothing to do with a C3. It's just for resting the rifle off the ground between shots when target shooting, or for convenient display.

What do I need still: ZF 69 Scope,#28 rear scope base, C3A1 sling, canvas C3 rifle bag and sight bag.

Wow, thanks for that! :) Keep looking for those parts, it's just a question of patience.

I always thought the C3's were M82s... Anyone care to clarify the difference between the M82 & the 1200TX??

M82 and 1200 TX receivers are identical as are the barrels....serial number only difference. Other differences...C3 stock is walnut not beech and is cross bolted; came with 4 matching spacers; bolt handle is not relieved for the rear aperature sight; correct sweep back bolt is flat on the underside; trigger is black not gold; hand stop is blackened and padded, not bright and the scope bases are blacked steel. This is why the 1200TX is a great starting point for a C3 build.

The cost will escalate from there.....manuals, green record book, sling, drag bag, cleaning kit, ZF69 , kahles scope; scope/sight case make it a C3....items are as scarce as "rocking horse pooh" and you need deep pockets. Can anybody put a price on these items?

Carl...take a stab at it...you've got good insight into the value of these items...I've received a few emails asking these questions...so why not? Might encourge guys to check out their lockers and storage for these items. Sure some are squirrelled away.

Yes, I have the C3 Scope mount....the scope bases are steel...10-32 holes (allen head screws used) in the rear with the recoil hole enlarged to accept the aperature base. The rear base is dual purpose...1) accepts the rear ring with the recoil pin 2) accepts the base for the 5E aperature sight when the rifle is converted over to competition model. The front base has 6-48 holes and a recoil lug hole. Bases are high quality machined steel and blackened. Rings are Parker Hale RALS.4 (26mm low rings with recoil studs).

The commerical A22 and A28 bases are available and can be made work. Generaly what is done as the steel bases are very difficult to source. I've got a couple of sets of these if people need them. PM if you need a set.

Wow, so all you really need is that scope then... Try some SSG-69 forums, as I hear the scope was made for that rifle in particular. It seems like it was popular and is bound to turn up.

Where there any differences in barrel lengths or contours in the C3-C3A1 rifles? Also was the same magazine always used in all of these rifles?
Barrel profiles were different and the lenghts as well .The C3 uses an internal magazine C3A1 uses a magizine system
