Critique and comment on our Ruger 10/22 stock (goes into prototypeing this week!)

OVERALL LENGTH (NO BUTTSTOCK) : 15.75" (same as the EVO gen1)
MAGWELL TO FRONT OF FOREND: 8-1/16"

I reviewed the model and I can add another inch to the bottom rail, bringing it to 6.5", but that the max.

Why is this the max length? To keep the same overall length as the Evo Gen 1? I don't see why this should be a constraint.

...
- Estimated retail price $295
- And most importantly: CANADIAN MADE

...

We also have an M14 stock in the works under the same design philosophy...

Would those M14 stocks be close to the same price as the 10/22 stocks?

When could we expect them for sale?

Sorry, what i meant to say is that 6.5" is the max for the bottom rail on the stock as is. There is no constraint on the overall length other than cost.

I would be very interested in the collapsing stock with BUIS.. It would be a handy .22 and still NR.

Ok, I'll re-work the sliding stock when i have some time, for ozzy as well.

what about making the front handguard like the r22, kind of triangular with the barrel closer to the bottom of it like this one http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum...d.php?t=320889
Makes it look more like a mp5

That is a great looking rifle. a "triagular-ish" stock will add a bit more complexity to the project that I'd like at this time (complexity=$$)

Not quite the same price... but the same ballpark, and i know for sure they will be well below the competition. I will be tackling that stock after I bring the 10/22 one to a prototype I, and most people, are happy with. I'm figuring out lots of little tricks along the way with this 10/22 stock, which will just make the m14 stock a better product by the time its ready hopefully :)

Thank you everyone for the input!

+1 for the sliding stock for me too (with the option of using AR stocks as well) :)

+ a forend with a length of 8" (measured from the front of the magwell to the front of the forend).

Fantastic! It is great to see more CDN gun related businesses pop up. I hope all goes well for you!

Thanks!

I'll definitely keep the sliding stock on the burner.

The forend is 8-1/16" from the front of the magwell to the front of the forend.

mill is down until tomorrow afternoon (just when i was starting to get something done:(, but come hell or high water I will get some machining done by the end of the weekend, haha

This is very nice indeed... I like the overall look of it, very clean and simple (I think this should be your basic production model).

Often times putting too much sh*t on something is like not putting enough... it just makes it feel/look wrong. I would definitely be interested in this little guy if he were available, lol... Adding a collapsible stock (either the one you had or an aftermarket) would make it into the perfect camp/hiking/SHTF rifle too, which is always a big plus.
:D

Congratulations on all your efforts... I bet the real thing's gonna look even better than the CG model.

any pics with slider or a2 stock?
Thanx

This looks too much like the evolution style. I had one and wasnt to fond of it and resold it. If this is it,I would have to take a real hard look at it before i buy one. I do like the look of having the top of receiver covered top with the full rail.
I still like this prototype that hasnt been made yet, was hoping you would look at it bender.

Hey Ozzy,

Im still working on the re-worked sliding stock model, dont worry, its still on the drawing board for sure. Time is getting tighter though, i still got a manufacturing operation to run haha :D.

That model is very sharp, but at this point I'm looking to take the current design into reality, and that's going to be the focus for the next bit. Getting a prototype, ANY prototype done will be a key indicator of the feasibility of manufacturing ANY stocks, regardless of design. I can create models all day long, but bringing them to reality at a competitive price point is a whole different world and often takes compromise.

Thank you for the input! Im working on the sliding stock right now...

ok thanx bender, Sure hope it works out for ya and its great you're asking for imput from us. I know what i want is not what everyone wants but i just had to give you my imput.
Keep up the good work

You're going to run into trouble in the curved area behind and above the pistol grip. Most aftermarket stocks match the back of the curve, and look ghey without it.

ah yes, i actually changed the profile when i programmed it. I just havnt changed the model. It will match.

Edit: There's actually a lot of cleanup in the programming...
