Russian SKS45 long thread.

The SKS I received from Frontier was better than expected & the service from Frontier was OK . The SKS I received from SIR was worse than expected ( But still a decent deal for $200,I'm not unhappy with the gun ) But the service & misinformation from SIR was so bad they will never receive another order from me
 
I am not a expert on the sks', but those pins in the forestock are
not brass, steel, the shallac finish just makes them look like brass.
they are installed because i hear that the wood is prone to cracking
there, thou mine has no cracks.
one of my russians has three of these pins, I would think that
the 3 rd one was done at the referbish as the wood has been sanded
and them another layer of finish installed. This one has the solid wood
stock 100 % matching. date on the cover.
The other one had a lamin. stock , no date , I sold it at the Saskatoon gun show couple weeks ago, damn near had a fight at my tables over it when
I put it out for sale.
Have pictures, but have never tried to post ,as I have dial up and that
is a pain in the ass.
I did not like the black paint on the bolt, so wanted to see what was under it, took some stripper to it and did not do much, socked it in stripper for 3 days and with some supper fine steel wool , got it cleaned up, don't know what they use , but one darn tough paint(?)Powder coating????
the bolt is not bull chrome as I thoght it would be , but nice shiny gray
steel, looks way better than the blk. paint.
 
Cabelas

Cabelas is a big company they took a family business and did what a company does take the personal factor out of it I'm sure they still would have made money on the sks's if they sold them at the advertised price but i guess they had to make just a few more dollars at the cost of a few customers slipp
 
Guys, it sounds like SIR/Cabelas had a hell of a time with these rifles. Long time to get in, they may or may not have had the correct information given to them, or shipments changed, or what. All I know is that with all the hassles and bad-mouthing that they're getting here, they are going to be very hesitant to ever order any milsurp again. It's going to sit badly with them for a loooong time and they won't be in any hurry to try that sort of thing again.

Good, maybe they'll learn something.

I've lost track of how many times I've heard this argument on CGN. That we should excuse retailers basically because they're doing as all a favour by letting us give them money.

The idea that we should be grateful for bad customer service, bad product and bad advertisement is offensive to me.

They have pulled "bait and switch" on me before.

Never again.

Elwood Epps is great to deal with, as well as Bashaw Sports.

WSS is OK if they have it in stock, and their prices are generally lower than S.I.R. anyways.

They were not the importer here. So why should the guys that bought them bend over backwards for SIR? Plenty of other places to buy. SIR does not have a monopoly last time I looked. Yes they might be in your backyard,but not in everyone else's.
 
I've stopped watching this thread a while ago. I can't beleive that it's still going!
Too bad it seems not everyone is happy with their SKS.

Mine aren't too bad, but to promise one thing and then deliver another (while boosting the price) chafes me.

I'm not kidding when I say I'm through with them.

I usually only used Cabela's in the States as a last resort anyways, if the item was unavailable anywhere else and it was on sale. They are generally pricey.

I couldn't care less if they have a massive dead wildlife display in their stores, or racks of antique arms. I'm only interested in finding what I want for a great price. Otherwise they can pound sand.
 
I think it's appropriate to hold retailers up to a reasonable standard. Over the years I've ordered a number of guns from SIR, including a couple of milsurps like a Chinese SKS, Mosin 91/30, the older Norc M14S ($230 kit gun) and really wish I had ordered more milsurps when they had a selection. If it was fully within their abilities to sell guns hassle free in the past, there's no reason not to ask the same of them again.

If they only knew how popular some of these milsurps can be, they might have just announced carrying them when they arrived and would have had little trouble selling them, assuming a reasonable selling price. Even the mixed parts rearsenalling wouldn't have been an issue had it not been for the fact that they raised their prices to that of the superior Frontier rifles that naive people like myself put off buying because of the anticipated savings from SIR.

At least the person that I dealt with yesterday seems to have done her best to rectify my situation (replacing a cracked rifle as result of poor packaging), and I hope that they learn from the experience.

I was at frontier today and they were unloading another order of rifles. I got to look at 5 different unissued rifles that were not refurbs. The guy in the store mentioned the prices were going to be much higher though.

Isn't capitalism grand.If Homehardware can make money selling them for 200 dollars how can these other retailers keep jacking the price up on these old guns.There must be a crapload of them comming in.
 
Chi-com SKS-D / Russian

Well here is my Norinco SKS-D with a few modifications so it feels more at home with its newly adopted Russian brothers .Replaced the spike bayonet with a Russian blade . Changed the Norinco balsa wood stock with a Russian . Still have a little work left to do filling the space ahead of the Mag well where the fixed mag previously fit .

Was it a Nork fix mag converted or its actually a SKS-D?

How well does it fit on Ruskie stock?
