Beretta PX4 Storm used by police?

one of the few smart things the RCMP have done is stick to 9mm. which means it's also one of the smart things CSC and CBSA have done too.

there has to be more reasons....a lot of police forces will give the small handed officers smaller grips, and if thats not small enough, they get entirely different guns....the m&p comes with decent grip choice....even the smallest hands can handle that gun...it is great as a holster carry weapon....its simply built for that purpose...im surprised that m&p did not get the contract....smith and wesson have a lot of experience with law enforcement firearms...afterall they issued the venerable 4046...it featured all the features of the glock, but added a full stainless steel frame and the additional safety of a drop magazine shot stop (dont know the technical term)

I think more officers have been killed due to a magazine disconnect than saved.

I own a PX4 and glock, and have shot a M&P and a Sig 2022. I really don't think any of them have a significantly different grip size... a double stack frame can only be so small.

Frankly like was said, only the PX4 passed so of course the PX4 was chosen. The wisdom of that choice I guess will be shown in a few years if these guns fall apart.

What model H&K was tested? P2000? I have a H&K .45 and love it...except for the mag release, that should be in a better place.

The P2000 would have been a excellent choice since the gun is completely ambi, along with the grip inter changeability. Too bad, IMO the slide is too small on the PX4. They adopted a course of fire, that required a 25m qualification, but selected a compact pistol?

"mildot", That's an interesting observation. How much larger is the RCMP's 5946? It seems that most people are having trouble at the 25m stage.

Well I spoke to this issue with some of the folks at CBSA. The RCMP use a pistol that has a 5" barrel, much like most pistols used in police forces. CBSA wanted a pistol to be compact since they work in confined spaces, and something that was lightweight. However the RCMP course of fire is 25m, not really designed for a compact pistol, and since to the best of my knowledge most constables carry the full size S&W.I wondered why they went with that. Now I know some folks are going to "chime" in and say well they needed a model(course of fire), and had to get something right away, the HK P2000 is prohib as well etc. So in closing the barrel length is not a issue as people are qualifying at the 25m,however the re-cert may be a different story. I still support the HK because it is totally ambi and the LEM trigger. And yes its a HK :)

It's funny how the US customs a few feet away are able to do their jobs with the H&K:)
I have owned most of the major "brand" pistols and the H&K is by far the best pistol I have fired. I would gladly pay for my pistol if I had a choice of what I could carry.

As much as I think Tom Cruise is a weenie, I love Mildot's video.

Well the CZ P-07 is out now along with the older P-01. Not sure why the P0-1 wasn't in the mix. It has passed NATO protocols by a wide margin and in my view would have been a much better gun then any I have seen mentioned here. The new Omega trigger system now being introduced into some of the CZ line (CZ -75B) is said to be very good and better than the original.

Aside from being overpriced I am not sure why the HK has such a following.

I would say the Glock is the most over rated pistol with the biggest unexplainable following. I had a new G34 and my M&P was like a Cadillac compared to that.
Everyone has a different opinion of what fits them right. Some people are Ford men and some are Chev men.
I have never shot a CZ but I must wonder why I have never heard of a NA police dept using them.
My tinfoil hat is still telling me CBSA and the RCMP wanted and FULLY expected the M&P to pass the test. When it failed I think they were stuck with the PX4 by default. I think when that mag popped out of the M&P a few chins hit the floor and said "oh f#ck!".

Everyone knows I'm a HK junkie :). The HK is a completely ambi gun, however it doesn't have all the safeties the Beretta has, this must have been a consideration in the evaluating. Too bad the didn't get the LE trigger option on the PX4?.

speaking of mags falling out of the M&P, i spoke to a range officer from OPC, he told me that it happens quite regularly with that pistol, but supposedly it is fixed by now by smith and wesson....he told me it had to do with the ergonomics of the gun's mag release

DND, RCMP, CBSA (maybe wildlife too?)all us 9mm in their pistols, makes sense, one round fits all, economy of scale on purchase.
LAPD uses the Px4 also...so do some other US forces.

Px4 is still better than the running shoes and maglite they had before.

I believe the primary reason is/was the gun lived on the other side of the iron curtin for so long and they likely are relatively more costly when compared to what some of the tupperware guns go for. The 75B is said to be the most widely used military/LEO pistol worldwide. Not sure about that but it wouldn't surprise me. It is one of the finest platforms in the marketplace.

LAPD uses the Px4 also...so do some other US forces.
Px4 is still better than the running shoes and maglite they had before.

LAPD issues Glock 22's to all new recruits. When they hit the streets they can purchase something from S&W, Beretta or Glock. If the PX4 is used by LAPD it would be something an officer has bought out of his own pocket. PX4 is not a standard issue to the LAPD.

And yes, any pistol is better than none!

Oops.... Sorry dude. The 5946 has a 104mm barrel(or there abouts). Just short enough to classify it as prohib. So right around the 4" mark, same as the Px4. ;)

And I recently shot the course of fire with a G26(barrel just under 3.5"). My group was a little bigger at 25m than the 5946 or a G19, but not much. :D

A poor carpenter blames his tools. lol

Having said that, I think the Px4 is a piece of crap. There would have been a much lower failure rate with the M&P. The trigger is that much better than the Beretta.

Well if it's good enough for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office it's good enough for me:)

HAHHAA! True enough.

What I, or anyone else who doesn't carry it for work, say about the gun doesn't matter.

What does matter is what the people that carry them say. If you guys like them, who cares what some internet know-it-all like me says. :D
