Wholesale Sports and rifles..your own..

Staff is anything but knowledgeable from my experiences with rifles and shooting equipment...

Where did they put your gun while you tried the the rings,..was it in a rest somewhere???

As i said, we did my stuff on the floor of the aisle..

Note bold................

I can't multi quote.

Believe me when I say I have more than a few complaints about the place. But you gotta use some common sense.

Plus a little discrepancy.

But you gotta use some common sense.

Do you mean discretion .....?

Keep in mind that for as many of us that ARE careful with our firearms, there are plenty out there who are not. These dillholes may walk in there with a firearms thats loaded because they were too stupid to check it, with a safety thats off for the exact same reason. It could be being brought in by someone totally unfamiliar with guns, such as a widow or executor of an estate looking to sell the thing. How many of you have been swept by the muzzle of a firearm that some jerk is checking out at the gun counter? I think I've made my point............

You know, S@#t happens. The guys in WSS are safer with Joe No Shoot executor coming in with a loaded gun than they are driving to work. It is all a matter of perception, and CaberTosser has the current PC perception. Yeah, it is unpleasant to be swept by a muzzle, but it ain't the end of the world. Insane, screaming knee-jerk reacting to it can get you shot, as you startle and discombobulate the offender, so he may just trip the trigger, but a polite, firm approach will get the gun under control, unloaded, and grounded on a proper padded surface.

We trust Joe No Drive at every intersection we cross, and tolerate him driving drunk, talking on his cell phone, texting his gf, speeding, tailgating, and blindsiding. His cousin comes in a gunstore, and we freak. Go figure.

I will never shop at Wholesale Sports again. I put an order in October for reloading supplies (bullets, primers, casings, etc) and two weeks ago I called to check on my order. The chiclet was pretty quick to say they were having a heck of a time getting that stuff in. I asked her why then does the website show it all as being in stock still? She didn't have much to say and I then advised her of my intentions never to shop there again and to cancel my order.

I was at Dudleys Outdoor Adventures in Drayton Valley, Alberta over Christmas and this awesome little ma and pa store had everything I needed cheaper than Wholesale Sports. Plus he let me hold the Browning Maxus and Cynergy... Which Wholesale Sports never would unless you put your soul on the counter first.

my advice,..know what you are wanting, do most of your reearch before you go there,..and if anyone makes suggestions, ask them why they suggest that..

my first experiences with them were this past year, actually, only since November. I went to the one in Saskatoon, the one in Edmonton, or was it Calgary,..nope pretty sure Edmonton...and a few times here in Grand Prairie...

Simple questions put to the gun counter guys are reacted to with question marks???

Could you please let me take a look at that stainless 45/70?

Nope, the one over,...nope next to it, nope... the stainless one,..nope the stainless one,...nope that's a 44 something or other, nope that's a puma,..the Marlin... yes that one...

Do you have ghost rings,...?

What are ghost rings...

.........................................................

I can go on for 20 minutes....

I love the little shop I go to when I get the chance...

One day I walked in and one of the owners said here check this out, and before I could say The Battle of Iwo Jima he handed me a minty Garand Sniper rifle to drool over for a few minutes. After I handed it back I spent the rest of the time in the store with a big grin on my face. :)

Beat that Wholesale! :p :D

Not sure about everyone else but,
1. I can and do follow the signs on the door that says to check in first with customer service.
2. I don't go to a outdoor store seeking gunsmith type advice. Remember that they are only enthusiasts. Gunsmiths and professionals don't work for less then 2 or 3 times the wage.
3. I know what I want when I go in. Sure I might be open to suggestions on something slightly different but I'm not just going to jump all over it like some kid on a piece of candy without some thought put in.
4. It is a large chain of stores that is going through expansion pains. It is hard to get enough supplies to keep all stores fully stocked. Also keep in mind that when certain things (eg. primers) are sent to a store, they cannot be sent to another location. Sure they have 20 boxes somewhere else and the guy that may have ordered them for you doesn't know shipping rules enough to know that you can't have them sent else where.

I'm not saying that crap doesn't happen there but lets be real about what the place is. Outdoor sporting goods store.

I would have had my rifle in a case, but that is just how I travel with them.

WSS is always good for a smile :). I was in there a few nights ago to pick up whatever they had in stock for reloading supplies(which they don't have much of). I figured because it wasn't busy I would have a look at one of the new Model 70's, mostly because there was no line up and it was right behind the salesman. I had to point out to him which one it was(the only model 70 on the wall). I then watched him fight with the bolt trying to open it, he then handed it to me and said that the bolt wont open because of the trigger lock. I had to laugh as I pushed the safety off and opened the bolt.

Always know exactly what you want before you go in. If a salesperson tells you he has never seen one or doesn't know what you are talking about, ask for someone else.

Like I said in the OP...note to self not to do it again...

Moms bringing the kids in to see the animals,..not sure what that has to do with anything... I presume something about guns and women and children or something... are they being shown the animals that have been shot? or are they being shown the animals that are endangered by guys like sealhunter who walk in with his big bad gun..

I figured someone would have said, 'Excuse me sir, I'll get you to wait here while I get someone to help you with your firearm while in the store"

I figured that someone would have put my gun in a gun rest as we set up the gear on it...

I won't get into a whole legality and perception bhull#### arguement, but if i had walked in with a knife handle I wonder what would have happened...(essentially a gun that has no bolt and a trigger lock on)...
or if I had picked up one of the machetes or axes.. and looked around for other things on my shopping list...

sometimes we build our own boxes,.. guns should not be seen, should not be smelled ....never mentioned in front of women and children.. you should need a permit to carry your hunting rifle out of your house...you should have to put a Dangerous Goods sign on your passenger side windshield whenever you have guns in your vehicle...

My safe handling of a boltless, trigger locked, muzzle controlled, legal firearm in a legal manner, should not be an issue,...the bull#### Liberal anti response to it such should be..

and again, as the OP says, I will never do it again,..I am the minority,... I should be thankful i even have a gun and am allowed to hunt...

humbled am I,...thank you.

:)

3. I know what I want when I go in. Sure I might be open to suggestions on something slightly different but I'm not just going to jump all over it like some kid on a piece of candy without some thought put in.

I always go with a list of what I need and never look for advice. That would be like asking the girl serving me coffee at Tims what lift pump to put in my Dodge diesel.

I have heard some of the counter staff at WSS giving out some advice over the years(quite a few times) that was just down right dangerous. Note to anyone seeking reloading advice, don't get it from WSS staff

When I went in, I did go to customer service. I told the young woman behind the desk that I had a rifle in my vehicle that I wanted to bring in to get some accessories mounted on it. She looked at me like I was lower than a snakes belly and she told me," Well go get it and take it to the gun counter so they can deal with it. It's not my job to play with guns."

I knew I should have just went elsewhere after heaing that from her. Well, now I know not to give them any business. Oh, and before I forget, I ordered a rifle from them 4 years ago. It still hadn't come in as of last august. They kept making excuses on why it was taking so long. LOL.

I'm beginning to wonder if anyone high up in the company is watching and listening to these posts...and if not then why not?

People bring rifles into the Edmonton North store all the time and nobody seems to give a hoot. Maybe they gave everyone a heads up, I don't know, but that would be the polite thing to do, don't you think?

Personally I think you're way out of line to criticize the WSS staff. The proper procedure is to take the rifle in, in a case. That way there can be no confusion. You take the case in, set it on the counter tell the staff you've brought your rifle in (for whatever reason), and you are going to pull it out to check out some stuff.

I do that in any situation when I want to take a rifle into any store.
Think about it. It only makes sense.
