Wholesale Sports and rifles..your own..

Personally I think you're way out of line to criticize the WSS staff. The proper procedure is to take the rifle in, in a case. That way there can be no confusion. You take the case in, set it on the counter tell the staff you've brought your rifle in (for whatever reason), and you are going to pull it out to check out some stuff.

I do that in any situation when I want to take a rifle into any store.
Think about it. It only makes sense.

Bingo! Someone gets it.

What happened to discretion?

Why wouldn't you walk in the store with the rifle in a case? Trying to prove a point to someone? Trying to be cool?

About as smart as the retard here on CGN who was riding around on his motorbike with a uncased M14 slung over his shoulder and then had the nerve to complain that he was treated unfairly by the police. Twit.:jerkit:

Does anyone have any common sense anymore?

I can't be that old am I?:D

Like I said in the OP...note to self not to do it again...

Moms bringing the kids in to see the animals,..not sure what that has to do with anything... I presume something about guns and women and children or something... are they being shown the animals that have been shot? or are they being shown the animals that are endangered by guys like sealhunter who walk in with his big bad gun..

I figured someone would have said, 'Excuse me sir, I'll get you to wait here while I get someone to help you with your firearm while in the store"

I figured that someone would have put my gun in a gun rest as we set up the gear on it...

I won't get into a whole legality and perception bhulls**t arguement, but if i had walked in with a knife handle I wonder what would have happened...(essentially a gun that has no bolt and a trigger lock on)...
or if I had picked up one of the machetes or axes.. and looked around for other things on my shopping list...

sometimes we build our own boxes,.. guns should not be seen, should not be smelled ....never mentioned in front of women and children.. you should need a permit to carry your hunting rifle out of your house...you should have to put a Dangerous Goods sign on your passenger side windshield whenever you have guns in your vehicle...

My safe handling of a boltless, trigger locked, muzzle controlled, legal firearm in a legal manner, should not be an issue,...the bulls**t Liberal anti response to it such should be..

and again, as the OP says, I will never do it again,..I am the minority,... I should be thankful i even have a gun and am allowed to hunt...

humbled am I,...thank you.

:)

:agree:

People have to realize that there are specific laws in place dealing with firearms, and if I am not breaking the law or being unlawful then I should be fine walking into a firearms dealer with a firearm. PERIOD! I should also be OK to publicly display my rifle within the confines of the law. If more of the public were exposed to firearms then perhaps they would not be hysterical every time they saw someone with a rifle.

Gun ownership, hunting, sportsmanship and firearm competition is a way of life and we shouldn't have to hide our firearms from view, if this keeps up I can see a day when I will need a special permit to carry my rifle from my house to my truck so I can go hunting with a special STATT issued from my house to uncle Joes farm to shoot some gophers.

The OP did nothing illegal, he carried his SAFE rifle into a firearms dealer looking for some parts/accessories... I can see if he had carried it into a lingerie shop that somebody would get nervous but Wholesale Sports sells GUNS they should not be afraid to see them from time to time...

You can keep your boutique froo froo girly sporting good box store, when you feel like hanging with the boys you can find me at TNT in Regina... oh but be careful if you come cause it's just possible you might catch a glimpse of a GUN or get some Hoppes #9 on your prissy HH coat.

Is there any law that says I need to own a case?

I thought that by securing a trigger lock, having the firearm registered, having my PAL, carrying it in a safe manner, etc etc was what was required.
So now cases have been added...

What type of cases? ...Are they supposed to be locked as well? Does there need to be identification on the case as to what type firearm is inside? what other things will you come up with today to drive shooting enthusiasts further out of the mainstream?

If I brought back a chainsaw to Canadian Tire, an axe te Lee Valley, a 14 inch butchers knife to Paderno, or a big old dangerous car back to Honda, it would be a non issue.
However, it is CRAZY to bring a legally owned and purchases, legally secured rifle to a shop that sells rifles and rifle accessories...

And again, as I said I won't do it again, ...but if you think I was carzy or did not use "proper discretion", then you might be part of the problem..

Like one guy said, "there's Mom's and kids in there looking at animals" ....for God's sake man, think of the Kids...the women and children...

Nothing illegal. It sounds like the particular store you were in is run by pussified tree humpers affraid of guns. Everyone should be careful the next time your at home depot buying a fence post as you walk up to the check out. That post could one day be turned into a bomb and therefore it might go off right there at the till.

Sounds to me like the store shouldn't be selling any guns if their not aware enough to feel threatened by an unbolted, locked rifle. My buddy brought a dummy round into the Calgary store once for some reason though I cannot recall what that reason was. It had no primer. He set it down next to a bucket of loaded odd ball ammo on the counter while talking to the clerk. The clerk went kinip####.

It seems to me everyone keeps forgeting it is not illegal to own a gun, even the people that are selling them these days.

So Pharoh,

Why don't you go ahead and walk around in downtown Lethbridge with your rifle slung over your shoulder. While your at it cruise through the mall and maybe swing by Chapters for a gander at the hunting magazines. Just tell anyone that asks your on your way to Wholesale Sports with it. Tell us how that works out for you. Law or otherwise.

I brought a cased rifle into a sporting goods store to check out scope caps and it was like alarms went off there as well. I curbed the urge to spit profanities and simply said, "I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition...".

pffft. Has our culture changed to become so alarmist?

Hey Chuck, stop being such a ####. :)

Here are some laws still on the books in Canada.

Canada-wide

30% of a radio station’s content must be "Canadian Content"

You may not pay for a fifty-cent item with only pennies.

Citizens may not publicly remove bandages.

It is illegal for clear or non-dark sodas to contain caffeine.

Is a cop going to stop you for publicly removing a bandage? I don't think so.

Is a cop going to stop you while walking across a parking lot with an uncased rifle? I'll bet a tall stack of dimes he will.

Is it legal to walk across a parking lot with an uncased rifle? Sure, as long as it's unloaded.

So if it's legal, how many of you would carry a unloaded, legal, uncased gun into a downtown Toronto bank on a workday?;) and start spouting off as to how it's your "right"

Not many I'd bet.

But it seems some people just have to push the limits, which is where I get lost.
I honestly don't understand the mentality of willingly doing things to make a point or just to "throw it into someone's face " so to speak.

"What the fvck are you looking at, I'm allowed to carry my gun around uncased" What kind of mentality is this?

I figure it's just as easy to throw it in a case as not. Out of sight out of mind for many people.

I don't hide my ownership of guns, everyone on my street has seen me loading guns in the truck. All my co-workers know I shoot and hunt.

But I don't throw it in other people's faces either. Respect is a two way street.

Pickles I agree, the diference is were not talking about carrying your unloaded rifle into a bank, (or Chapters :slap:) rather a gun store that sells guns and accessories. The little shop right down from my house is a constant scene of guys carrying uncased guns to and from their vehicles in full view, some times they have to park a block away. I've seen the same thing in both Whole Sale Sports parking lots that I've been to. No SWAT take downs, no ignorant attitudes from anyone in the stores except the yuppies in the camping departments. While I have no intention on walking downtown with my rifle slung over my shoulder :)slap:) I like you happily carry mine to and from my house, on a main road usually with no case and I will never have a problem.

Dont you have a TV?

I don't.

I find the programming incredibly juvenile and won't abide being subjected to five minutes of brainwashing every nine minutes. Not to mention the product placement in the TV programs themselves.

I'd rather be reading popular books explaining scientific literature, researching my interests or hob-knobbing on forums about specific topics. TV is a total waste of time.

Well tell me. Is it legal to do what I asked?

What should I say to you Chuck? It's like a bad traffic wreck, I want to ignore you but it's somewhat impossible to do. I don't troll from thread to thread responding to every comment you make, but you seem to do that to me. Are you so pathetic in life that you have nothing better to do then search the internet looking for a fight?

I have a better idea Chuck, why don't you tell us your view on the law about the question you asked? This is one of the few times you will ever see me actually asking for your opinion. Please, enlighten us. :)

I think bringing a rifle to a store that sells and advertises a large line of firearms, shooting accesssories, ammunition, reloading components etc. ina legal and law abiding manner should cause alarms to go off.

If they have an added procedure, such as casing a gun, or whatever, they can communicate that. No one said to me, " hi there, we prefer that rifles being brought in are is cases" ... I'm not a legal ya ya who would get into, " but it is legal for me to, blah blah blah, and if you read charter yadda yadda yadda"

Before I left, no one mentioned anything to me about 'next time' or anything else. I was not past the customer service counter when it happened, I was was barely through the door.

I aslo saw a comment,...don't wear camo into the bank,...
If I'm already wearing camo, and need to go to the bank, hospital or anywhere else, I will be going there...

some of you guys will soon need need a permission slip to s**t in the woods..

the people who drink their coffee at the coffee shop by the Tackle Shack are a lot better for it. I was in tehre and saw a guy walk by with his rifle,... no one even thinks to say anything... it's a non issue..

Sure miss the good ol days. I remember when I was in grade 10 (rural school) one of the teachers was a gunnut and he had just rechambered his Krico rifle to 6mm284 and a few of us went out to the school parking lot where he pulled it out of his vehicle and showed it to us, even the ammo. Yes I still go into WSS to try to buy stuff and sometimes the staff are competent and nice and I get what I need. If I need to bring my rifle in for whatever reason I case it and take it to P&D. Do I wish I had loads of money for healthcare and could live in some US town where I could carry a sidearm (loaded) and gun culture was a way of life. Yep.

Next time just go the extra hour to Corlane's in Dawson.

I have never been impressed by the hunting section in any WSS I have visited. (Fishing side seems not bad but a bit pricey)
