Wholesale Sports and rifles..your own..

Here are some laws still on the books in Canada.

I honestly don't understand the mentality of willingly doing things to make a point or just to "throw it into someone's face " so to speak.

"What the fvck are you looking at, I'm allowed to carry my gun around uncased" What kind of mentality is this?

I figure it's just as easy to throw it in a case as not. Out of sight out of mind for many people.

everyone on my street has seen me loading guns in the truck.

.

Yes in a perfect world we would trust everyone that walked in the store with a rifle knowing that it was safe but the second rule of safe firearms handling is "never assume". I happen to work behind the gun counter for Wholesale Sports and from time to time someone brings a tube feed .22 mag with live ammunition in the tube or the guy that brought his lever 30 .06 in for us to tighten the scope mounts with 4 live rounds in the magazine.
Is it that hard to case a rifle or shotgun before bringing it into the store and please double check to make sure it is not loaded.
We get a little excited because not everyone is as safe about gun handling. If you are cavilier about casing your firemarm before walking into the store what else have you overlooked. We see loaded firearms in the store far too frequently and it won't be the last time.

Personally I think you're way out of line to criticize the WSS staff. The proper procedure is to take the rifle in, in a case. That way there can be no confusion. You take the case in, set it on the counter tell the staff you've brought your rifle in (for whatever reason), and you are going to pull it out to check out some stuff.

I do that in any situation when I want to take a rifle into any store.
Think about it. It only makes sense.

Hey it does make sense. Your plan is curteous too.

However it does sound like visiting WSS is a different experience to ordering over the phone. I have never been in a WSS but the girls I speak too always make me feel sauve and sophisticated, ya know, like they'd like to get to know me better :D. If they actually have what I want in stock then their prices are generally very competitive.

The cloth covers up the ugly wood and prevents others from seeing the type of rifle and assuming that you are in the store to have the wood stock repaired.:)

since there is new/always existed procedure or proper etiquette for bringing a non bolted trigger locked rifle to a store that sells and services such...could I get help with.

Should I case a rifle stock as well? If I bring a rifle stock, so as tehre is no cofusion, should be cased. What about a barrel?

Garden Rake?

I told you seal, there are no legalities being violated with carrying your rifle the way you did. But your asking for trouble if you start packing garden tools...

Holly stuff Batman...............

Ya go to bed and look what happens.

Sealhunter; the point of kids and mothers is that families go into the store. Mothers pushing baby strollers with say a small infant in it. The point that I am trying to convey is that there are none gun people back in the counter area that aren't into guns, firearms or hunting. They just want to show their kids the neat looking animals. How do you think a new mother is gonna potentially react to you or someone else with their rifle? Are you not a protective father?

I thought when I met you at Bartons that you were a good guy. However after reading this and other posts, you are a simple minded ....

I laugh at allot of the posts made here. I am done with this thread.

As one who was around at the birth of the store which was to become Wholesale Sports, the evolution is fascinating. From a small shop called Barottos (from combining the names of the partners, Barry and Otto) just down the street from Frenchy's, to the big chain store owned by UFA has been a long and convoluted road. In the early years, Barottos catered almost entirely to shooters and hunters and employed skilled, full-time gunsmiths (like Dennis Sorenson). Later on, after the deaths of the original owners, the shop was bought by a family which also purchased Frenchy's and re-named the franchise Wholesale Sports. From there, the purchase by UFA and the turning into a chain store. I never did shop there much but I did get my first hunting rifle from Barottos and ammunition for it from Frenchy's.
The change in attitude to rifles in public though, is societal and has little or nothing to do with Wholesale Sports per se. Especially in the last ten years, the public has been well educated to react to the appearance of any firearm with shock and dismay. It's not surprising that these clerks do the same. Regards, Bill.

without going into a fight with you, this is an internet forum, call me simple minded call me an #######.. fine..

Meet me again, I'll say hello, I don't suggest you call me simple minded though,...tuck that bit of advice in your back pocket ;)

I am a protective father, and when I see a responsible gun owner, following the law and practicing safety, I feel encouraged about the future for my son.

If they don't want to expose their children to the evil that is firearms, perhaps they should pick a venue that doesn't have 100 firearms on display, and potential customers handling these evil firearms. :p

As I said, I don't have a whole lot of experience with them, and less with bringing a rifle in..

I assumed bringing a rifle in would be no more "out of place" then the hundreds of times I have done it at the Tackle Shack, Barton's, Corlanes, T&T,...and on an on and on.

It's private property, they do have the right to dictate what a customer can and cannot bring into their store, but if they have a policy they want customers to follow, it should be spelled out loud and clear with a sign at the front door.

Make it clear and nobody gets upset...

The asian grocery store in west edmonton mall? :p

Also, wholesale once told me the CZ 527 did not exist when I asked to see one. "only SKSs and AKs use that cartridge":jerkit:

Bingo,

I would think since the mother knowingly takes her child into a firearms dealer she wouldn't have a problem with seeing firearms. As a protective father I don't have a problem with firearms being handled properly or my kids seeing them.

If this is WSS's policy it should be posted on the door on a REALLY BIG SIGN. Currently all I see is a sign saying "Please leave backpacks with customer service". Apparently backpacks are the more dangerous inanimate object:runaway:

I worked in a gun store many years ago and can assure you that it is sketchy when folks do that. I had all kinds of unsafe issues at the gun counter.

They don't know you from a bar of soap, it may be the first time you have ever touched a rifle as far as they know, so don't be so offended. They have not inspected your rifle to make sure it is safe, of course they will be on guard!

Yes, they sell guns, but ones they know are not loaded and are largely under their control before they pass them to you, big difference.
