Crazy Mountain Lion hunt

First you said this tree hugger Bull Sh1t.
For which I recommend you sell you hunting rifles and take up knitting or something more in tune with a delicate nature.
This is the real world and we kill beautiful things and eat them every day.
If you can't deal with it I understand...Just don't feed a hunter tree hugger BS.

Why Kill such a beautyfull animal for nothing. I feel A shame to a human right now. Poor Cat, Just let it live. Doing this s**t is Really bad for Karma. they will pay a big price for actions like this one day.

Now you change your tune?
WTF exactly is it you are trying to say?

Again I dont Agree. Falling on that side of the fence would not make me a hunter anymore.

Rule #1 is safety first These guys FAIL
Rule #2 is a clean Shot FAIL again
As for s**t happens , Dont take the shot if you Cant make it clean. You pass and try again.
They Failed on every aspect anyway, with their mentally and Attitude toward nature and living creatures.

I would not hunt the way they did, but when the chit hit the fan they finished the job.
Nothing but respect for that.

You can plan all you want, but if you hunt long enough sooner or later you will shoot poorly and will end up cleaning up your own ugly little mess.
Not pretty, not fun, nor is it enjoyable, but as a hunter you need to mentally prepare for the inevitable.
You too will celebrate when its over.

I thought that hunt was pretty cool. Nothing unethical whatsoever in the actions of those guys. The shooting wasn't quite up to snuff, but they did the right thing by continuing to the quickest, most humane conclusion, under the circumstances.

Great trophy!

I didn't see anything either. Its hunting, things don't always go as planned, anyone who has shot numerous animals knows this. Wild animals have an amazing will to live some days even when hit with a bullet just like the text book said.

Cat hunting might not be for everyone, but it is still hunting and it takes dogs, skill and a sh*t load of work to do it proficiently. Anyone who says differently has never tried it.

Thats the truth! Chasing a cat over one mountain and down into the next can be a lot more harder work than sitting up i na tree stand waiting for a deer to walk under you or a bear coming looking for the bait :p

It's amazing that the people who are opposed to somthing or are the biggest experts on the topic at hand usually live thousands of miles away.

I don't like lions, never have. I only ever saw one one time and I had a patch of timber growl at me once :)eek:). I'm no expert by any means but an animal is an animal. Who has the right to put one lifes worth above anothers? If you have ever swatted a fly, shot a deer or killed a fish, and criticize this you are a hypocrite and nothing more.

The peak of my cougar 'experiance' can be best lived through my Wifes step father. He was attacked by a lion as a boy, I don't think he much likes them either...

Funny enough I still see this thread as an “I think” vs. “I feel” debate. Let me explain.
For the “I think” folks the story in the video is pretty straightforward: a bunch of people are hunting. The “hunting” definition doesn’t specify how you hunt so you can do it with a rifle, gun, baseball bat, bare hands etc. As long as it’s done legally it’s OK.
For the “I feel” guys it’s a totally different story.
1. Based on their feeling (cuteness factor, what a heck, we watched Bambi hundreds of times in our youth) only some game should be considered for hunting and they know better than anybody else what should be on this last.
2. Based again on their feeling they consider that the guys in the video have no clue how to hunt “properly”. The ”I feel” guys can always do it much better although, most likely, they never faced a similar situation.
3. And last, although is not that obvious in all messages, for God sake, they are Americans! Based on Canadian moral laws they must be clueless, ignorant, cruel and selfish.

My ex's cousin was hunting int the Flat Head River Valley appr 30 years ago he was walking across a very steep rocky game trail, he heard a small rock roll down the hill behind him he spun around in time to get his rifle (7mm mag) that he was carrying in his hand mounted and fired as the mtn lion leapt into the air at him.

The cat landed dead only feet away.

About 12 - 15 years ago a friend of mine that lives in East Gate (east border of Manning Park) was deer hunting in the hill around there he had found some big buck tracks in the appr 8" of snow and started following them.

He was surprised that he wasn't catching up to the buck when it finally did a big loop back across their tracks where he spotted not only the buck and his tracks but on top of his tracks were mtn lion tracks, he decided to head back to his truck but as he was heading down he heard a branch snap behind him so he slowly turned around to see a huge male mtn lion crouched ears flat and tail twitching at the most 20 yards away.

It leapt into the air at him he was able to mount his rifle and the cat landed dead at his feet he told me that after he shot his next move was to clean his pants...

In the Princeton area about 5 years ago another buddy was hunting deer in the snow when he went to head back to his truck on his tracks were mtn lion tracks he never saw it.

Last fall my buddy shot a huge buck on the same mtn side as the second story he felt he had made a good shot but ended up tracking the deer way further than he ever dreamt as he was stand ing along a tree line a squirrel started chattering behind him he started to turn towards the noise when he spotted a mtn lion about 30 yards behind him blasting out of the bush it leaped up into a tree going after the squirrel.

He stood with his rifle up just in case the mtn lion came down after him but instead it leapt out of the tree into the bush and was gone.

He told me that there was absolutely no way he would have had time to shoot.

There are more mtn lion attacks in BC/Van Island than anywhere else in the world just this winter a mtn lion came into a yard in Lyyton after a young boy that was out getting firewood for the house fortunately for him his dog went after the cat giving him time to get away an RCMP officer was only seconds away when he received the call from the anti gun family he was able to kill the cat and the dog was after many stitches started to recover.

Myself I have only ever had a bobcat and its 2 kits follow me and my dog was kind of cool this was on Dewdney Creek on the Coquihalla Hwy... :D

I have also only seen one mtn lion in the bush it had to be 6' long and it's tail was also appr 6' long near Ross Lake at the meadows.

Mtn lions are just another game animal if you choose to hunt them go for it (I never have but plan on doing it soon) if you choose not to for whatever your reasons thats ok with me but to see the emotional spewing against hunting them in this thread is completely amazing.

wow. pretty scary eh? kill em all !

Am I seeing just a bit of emotional extremism in your post... :p

I suppose I feel sorry more than anything for guys who go into the bush and are scared of bears, cougars, wolverine, rabid squirrels and those mean ol' porcupines. I have seen these types and I wonder to myself all the time why do they even bother. How could they enjoy themselves always scanning the bush for a menacing set of eyes from some mean vicious scary animal who want to eat them. Being too scared to walk into the bush to even take a crap. Not being able to sleep in a tent and investigating with a 12ga every noise the forest has to offer. I think I will make up a new word for it called "BEARATTACKAPHOBIA" lol

The narrow mindedness of so many supposed hunters blows my mind.
If it isn't what they do it must be wrong?
Please!

I shoot long range, short range, Bolt action, lever action, bow hunt traditional, bow hunt with a compound, hunt with a crossbow, and if I were younger I would try hunting with a spear.
By the end of my hunting life I would like to have faced every animal in North America. All part of the Hunting experience isn't it?
We have our minds poisoned every day by the media...Wake up guys!
Those that just hunt moose are missing out on some of lifes great treasures!

Cats are beautiful yes?
So are elk, deer, bears, Cariboo, Moose, bison, and whatever else you want to hunt.

Bottom line?
They all look good beside the mashed potatoes and gravy. :)

you eat cats do ya?

Personally, I have eaten Lynx, and it was not bad, but lets face it. The majority, if not all of these great white cougar hunters do not eat them. They have dogs run them down, tree them, they blow them away, take pictures to show off, and take the hide to show off some more. Those who cannot see how this could possibly be distasteful to some people, including other hunters are very simple minded.

For those who did not read the full text from Fullcryhounds story directly under the video, here are a few quoted words:

Quote
Seans first shot hits the rocks in front of the cat, second shot is perfect and the cat falls over the cliff. We grab dogs to keep them from going over with the cat and head down to take a look at him. He has a large gash on his face from a bullet, probably Seans second shot in the mine which is what made him decide to leave. We skinned him out, boned out the meat and headed back to the quads. This took some time because our wounded friend’s knee was in bad shape. We took our time and all made it back before dark. A few days later, we head back down to the ranch. We find two Tom tracks. We didn’t get back to the house later that day till around 5 that afternoon.

Eating it was part of the plan all along. Anything in retort is not a fair representation in this case. (generalization-just like the anti's do to us)
