The NOT politically correct firearm / deer hunting thread. I'm using a TAVOR!

Cash is preventing me from joining the club. It'll be interesting to see how the whole XCR vs ACR battle works out.

One will be in the cabinet for sure... someday...

I'll have to get some pics up, but last year I was hunting grouse with my 12.5" Grizzly modified to use an m4 collapsible stock and a holo sight. This year I will be bringing her along, and she'll be competing against an SR-22 with an eotech and 5x magnifier. I've already received dirty looks at the RANGE when FUDDs see it. I can't wait to see reactions in the bush.

Well, Season is partially over here. The deer are spooked and the FW truck is about. I'll have to laminate my registration card and take out the Norinco M14 with the 5/20 mag. It's a mostly chinese piece, norc m14, Arms 18 mount, 2.5-10 NC Star optics. And it shoots 1.5MOA all day with whatever junk you're too lazy to pull the bullets out of....... Should be amusing to have the FW guys discover that thing is non-restricted and the mag actually only holds 5 rounds.

I shot a nice 5x5 with my shorty m14 last year, and would use my tavor but .223 isn't legal in AB for big game. Have used my 858 and if I get an RFB it will be my hunting rifle.

Just a question not to light a fire!
Here in quebec, the minimum legally accepted calibre is 243. Is this different in the west?
I'm not discussing the effectiveness of a smaller calibre
That would be a great thrill to hunt with a TAVOR! Nice!

It's different for each province & territory, they make the rules when it comes to the minimun legal caliber... Camp Cook is using a 6.8 upper on his XCR.

Cheers

I also have an 858, but decided to go with the Tavor to show it off to my buddies dad who's 75 & hunts with a Win 88 in 308. Ha ha ha, I look forward to his reaction!

I am using my SKS with Pig Sticker, LOL. Should raise some eyebrows!

CZ 858 with 123 gr soft points. Should do the job, and get a few looks...

I'm thinking a loaner XCR and my LEH moose tag would be a grade A combo! Imagine seeing that in the newspaper..... :D

and the funny thing about the rifle is I have not met one guy and I have met some major fudds while I have been out hunting this year that didn't like it or want to give it a try and everyone wanted to talk about it.

It is definitely a conversation piece especially like yesterday morning the fellow had a Sako Finlight that he was making sure I saw until I showed him the XCR-L and his Sako was not mentioned again...

Just an observation, but it seems that the owners of these firearms get great satisfaction from the reaction of others to their rifles. Why would that be?

** PLEASE NOTE ** Before you jump all over me and flame out, understand that I have no problems whatsoever with these guns. I might not use them, but if you do, that's fine with me. Have at'er!

They are making a statement. It goes like this: My tacticool guns ARE SO hunting guns so TAKE THAT all you FUDDS!!!!!

Deliberately choosing a rifle that is less accurate with a less effective cartridge just to make some kind of statement seems a touch juvenile to me too but they aren't breaking any laws and I hope it helps them make whatever point they are trying to make.

FYI guys my XCR-L is not less accurate than your average bolt rifle I consistently shoot 3" or better 3 shot 300 yard groups with my XCR-L 6.8 SPC + Barnes 95gr TTSX @ 2825fps.

Hunting with it is not a stunt either it is being open minded enough to recognize that it is just another tool for a job that I want to do.

and it surprised me as well to find out that the SKS loaded with 7.62X39 is quickly replacing the Win 94 30-30 in the States as the most popular combo for deer hunting.

I have to agree with camp cook. My SR-22 is my most accurate .22 I have. It would be unethical to use something that I know is less accurate but would appease all FUDDs everywhere because it looked like a traditional hunting rifle. I take great pride in how I shoot, and if it posses someone off because what I use looks scary and mean, but in reality is just another way of skinning a cat, then I take offense to that.

The FW guys kinda looked at my 30-378wby Mark V funny too. As far as getting a reaction, well it's like this.

We go to the trouble and expense of getting permitted up and buy rifles we like that happen to be restricted. Then we take said rifles to the range and find them accurate, fast handling and easy to use. Then the thought hits us wow would this make a great hunting rifle, followed immediately by aw crap can't use it off the range......it's restricted.

SO, the progression follows, we find a similar rifle, usually at 50% more cost because it's non-restricted and buy it. Hopefully, we get to use it a bit before some jerk goes and reclassifies it to Restricted or Prohib and we are back to wanting a fasthandling, accurate, lightweight and easy handling rifle.

And that is why we get the satisfaction of your reactions. BTW, it's not like the armed forces are going back to winchester 94's or Lee Enfields because of the terrible inaccuracy of the modern weapons. Matter of fact, the US did an investigation during the early parts of the war in Iraq due to the high number of enemy casualties from head shots. It was discovered that the nature of the combat conditions and the quality of equipment was the reason for it. If the equipment would have been of lesser quality, there would have been more holes in the walls and alot more friendly casualties.
Not that deer shot back:eek:

The most expensive rifle I own is my XCR-L I have complete uppers in 223 & 6.8 SPC for it plus Leupold scopes on both uppers.

I easily have over $5000.00 invested in this rifle/components so you can bet I am proud of it and how it performs for me and will show it to anyone that wants to see it.

If my most expensive rifle was a bolt action I would be equally as proud of it so it has very little to do with it being a non-fudd gun...

:)

Seen a fellow last year out with an SKS rifle, not odd in the least but he had the bayonet out. It was pretty funny actually and he was just goofing around trying to get a rise out of his older fudd partner; which he did.

Wouldn't this be nice
