The NOT politically correct firearm / deer hunting thread. I'm using a TAVOR!

They are making a statement. It goes like this: My tacticool guns ARE SO hunting guns so TAKE THAT all you FUDDS!!!!!

Deliberately choosing a rifle that is less accurate with a less effective cartridge just to make some kind of statement seems a touch juvenile to me too but they aren't breaking any laws and I hope it helps them make whatever point they are trying to make.

The point is to show that these guns are just as adept at hunting animals as any other gun. Less accurate as compared to what exactly, some old rusty 30-30 or a full blown hyper accurate 1000yard tack driver?

I would put my m14 up against any rem. 700 when it comes to hunting. 1 moa doesn't add up to a hill of sh!t, and if it did most hunters would have a hard time getting anything.

Not wanting to prove these semis are a legitimate hunting rifle is ignorant and potentially hazardous when the ban pen comes out as witnessed by c-580.

The more folks successfully hunting with these guns the better. Not every fudd is against them and most are more interested in learning about these guns than are actually wanting to see them left at home. Hunting with them is a way towards education IMHO because they provoke a discussion.

I am working my way towards hunting exclusively with black type guns. This includes varmit and pest hunting. I want other people to see these guns in action and talk about them.

I completely understand that article/pic but then I'm not a fudd... I understand them, have nothing against them and more than willing to educate them but definitely not one of them...

:p

Nice choice gps! I also have an 858, but decided to go with the Tavor to show it off to my buddies dad who's 75 & hunts with a Win 88 in 308. Ha ha ha, I look forward to his reaction!

Bring on the bucks!

Cheers
Jay

Wonder how many deer he's killed with that 88? hahaha

The AR platform is just the next step in rifle technology.

Just like muzzle loaders, winchester lever actions, lee enfields, mauser, mosin nagant etc were once cutting edge military issue.

Anyone who thinks that modern rifles do not have a place in hunting is just being foolish.

40 - 50 years from now they will be the old timers gun and we will be on to something else. Embrace the future today. BTW theses "modern" designs are older than most of the hunters.

Claybuster, for me it is about having the freedom to choose... I'm using a bullet constructed for deer & has enough energy out to 100 meters to do the job, ie 1000 foot-pounds of energy.

Not every deer rifle in the woods is a tack driver or powerful... There are plenty of 30-30's, 32 Win Special etc... Heck, some of the old guys hunting with "older" cartridges are flinging ALOT less energy downrange (than the 223) & they work...

Now, back on track, anyone else got pics of their NON-PC rifle in the field?

Cheers
Jay

Remember that king fudd (Jim Zumbo) that use to work for Outdoor Life magazine that called down the modern day black rifle/military rifles; terrorist rifle he called them if I remember correctly. Got fired because he was such a jaded toolbag and sent down the road with his tail between his legs.

Got what he deserved. Ignorance is such a sad thing.

Yup, what a tit. Anti's love it when hunters speak out against scary guns.

The use of the black or less traditional rifles is just the evolution of the modern sporting rifle. Here is a good video that illustrates that point.

In 2 weeks holidays deer hunting, I managed to carry and hunt with:

Ruger 77 in 338 win mag
Browning A bolt medallion in 270 win
Beretta ES100 Pintail 12 guage slug gun
Savage MLII 50 cal muzzleloader
Savage 210 12 guage slug gun
and the kicker, my CZ 858

That's gotta be a record in itself and the CZ turned a few heads as well... :D

If your saying you took 6 firearms on a hunt is a record I have you beat... :D

Not only have I taken far more rifles I have also legally taken 6 handguns at the same time due to having an ATC that at that the time covered me to take all 6 to remote wilderness areas...

:p

Open sights and muzzleloaders are classified as unethical by at least one in this thread as not quite as accurate or pawerful as a trg .338 lapua. People are funny.

Not exactly Deer... but...

We finally got out on our Wild Boar hunt in Quebec. Everything we brought with us for firearms was black in color, and clad in a synthetic stock/receiver.

I brought out my FS2k, and my buddy Andy grabbed on of my Tavors.... We also had a NR Storm, a Tapco Stocked SKS, and a tactical 870. End of the day, and it was a long challenging hard humping day, we came home with 5 Russian Boar (around 125 lbs each).

Make no mistake these are tough creatures - we were using 62 grain bonded soft points in the .223's, but they were zipping through the animals. If we were to do it again, we'd probably go with a ballistic tip. Penetration was not an issue. The quartering away behind the shoulder shot worked the best for me, and one of the hogs I shot went like lightning for about 25' and anchored drt. The SKS worked wonderfully on the beasts, as did the 9mm carbine with 147 grain hollow points. They expanded well, with no exit wound.

It's interesting that we're getting frowned upon less now for using these rifles as our primary goto hunting guns. The reality is, and this is how we explain it to naysayers, that this is the future of sporting arms. They are light, compact, robust, designed for abuses that we have no intention of giving them, and the are bones out reliable. Kinda like the old enfield (except the light part) that was a sporterized staple of hunting when I was growing up.

LMAO nice pics stormtrooper. I'd probably #### bricks if I saw people walking around with that arsenal.
