Update Beretta smashed, need a new gun see page 11 for advice

Best bang for your buck has to be the O/U Yildiz Shotguns. Ive hunted for pheasant hard these past 2 years with mine and have had zero issues. The wood on it is better then guns costing 3x the amount spent. Comes with 5 chokes which are handy when one hunts early and late season birds. Clay at Prophet River has a nice selction and reccomend them over Baikel, Stoger, Mossberg and any other gun in the $700 range.

The OP bought a Beretta. How many rounds have you shot through the Yildiz? Do you have any pic's?

But we are not talking about you and I, are we?
I nthink that most shooters shoot far less in a life time than you or I do in a year.

I thought that we were talking about quality. Far too many are satisfied with a couple thousand rounds and many are just satisfied if the product makes it to the warranty date. The OP made a far better choice than settling for a CZ.

The wood on these guns gives me wood! Very nice looking guns indeed! I wish I knew more about 'em. I have been wanting one for sometime, but just not sure of the quality on 'em. Look very nice, but looks don't put meat in the freezer!

Can anybody recommend a decent Over Under in a 12 Gauge? Want something that has a nice wood stock. A plain receiver in stainless/nickel/chrome type finishes would be nice as well.

Lastly Im on a budget so nothing to fancy. Want to use it only as a field gun for hunting.

Any recommendations? many thanks for any help.:)
here's the original post , budget was mentioned, and a field gun.

Myself, I prefer a SXS CZ to O/U Brownings or Berretas, having had more than a few of each in various different models.....

Then again, your tastes are a little different.Who else has the patience to shoot a round of skeet with a muzzle loader?:D

Yep, that was the original post and he/she changed his/her mind as a result of research done. The OP decided to pay more for a quality name brand gun. Having had more than a few Brownings and Berettas myself I think the OP made a good choice based on quality. Fit? That is another matter.

Lets hope it doesn't fit! We may get a good deal on the EE soon enough!:p

I read awhole lot on several forums including a ton of posts on Shotgunworld. I realize that most people who have a gun that works dont post and say its great and only mostly people with problem guns make post on the internet. That being said there was a huge amount of criticism of CZ or Huglo O/U shotguns.
I have had several CZ guns from rifles to handguns so I am not against the brand. But the amount of negative posts I read about Redhead and Mallard really put me off.

Perhaps the CZ guns are better now than they use to be. I dont know. I do know that decent gunsmiths are few and far between and I dont want to risk warranty work that can tie some guns up for months at some warranty depot.

Not to say the Beretta wont fall apart as like anything you can find lemons in all brands. Ironically enough this is the first Beretta I have ever owned, never got around to buying one before and I think its the only major brand I dont own or havent had in the past.

I have an invite for my first Goose hunt in a couple of weeks. I got a box of shot and a $3 hat today at Walmart.

I am ready to eat! :D

Were you reading those in the Huglo forum or on the general shotgun forum?
The reason I am asking is that there are several gunsmiths and shooters on the Huglo forum that have many thousands of rounds through the CZ guns, and although there have been in the past some problems, they are basicly gone now.
However, that's a moot point now, and I'm sure you'll love your new gun!
I have lots of shotguns, and although Ii have some favourites, the Italians are in the front running for the most part.....

Italy and Germany make the best U/O's. England makes the best SxS's. I am not sure where Turkey fits in?

Posts were both new and old. A few dealers had posts as well about not carrying them anymore due to non stop defects. Some stuff was from the summer of this year, alot were from 2009.

The only thing I wish I couldve gotten, but it was way out of my price range was an O/U Beretta with the English stock. The wood on some of those guns is really nice. I realize that once you spend more than a few hundred bucks the guns themselves probably dont shoot any straighter but damn I can see why fancy shotguns and double rifles really are what fine firearms are all about.

It's way ahead of China (but who isn't?), ahead of Brazil, tied or perhaps marginally ahead of Russia and way behind behind everyone else.

I know a smaller dealer who brought in some CZ guns. He doesn't bring them in any more. The ones that worked were okay but too many didn't. They did not stand up to sustained shooting.

My greatest errors in gun buying occurred when I focused on price instead of quality. I don't make those mistakes any more. :)

I really don't think that the common man can afford a new SXS that is a quality gun and actually made in England these days.
My Westley Richards is a fine gun, yes,
I still like the Some of the Spanish SXS guns.

UPS, pretty tough to get a Silver Hawk on the cheap these days, they are WONDERFUL shotguns however!:)
