Edmonton-area 3-gun??? Help a newbie get out and watch/play please.

I do have a rifle (AR15, M14, or SKS), shotty (Mossberg 500) and pistol (Glock 17 or Kimber 1911 - have more mags for the Kimber, but it's still a bit 'picky') ready to rock.

Now, as for gearing up... how I'm carrying everything around will be a subject of much debate (and hopefully suggestion) as I'd love input on what the bigger fellas like me are running. I wear a 54 Tall suit, am 6'3" and 320lbs. Think "ex football player." Ask Shotzee about the size of my shadow, lol!

So... some of the "tiny" gear out there is not going to be an option for me.

Doc, bro, many of the guys I roll with are your size, and they gear up just fine. Show up to one of our meet and greets, and you'll see how we carry. Granted, it's not cheap, but its all about function over form. Make your gear work for you, not you for your gear. If it works, use it. Who gives a rats ass if it's not tacticool?

Agreed - I don't give a sh*t if it's "tacticool." I want it SOLID and DEPENDABLE. That's it.

I don't care if it's pink and came from Wal Mart - if it works better than anything else, I'll use it.

So... do tell about these "meet and greets" please! :)

Its a leapers el cheapo vest, I can detach the holdster to wear on my
Side, until I invest the money. I spent all my dough on ammo to get to be a
Semi decent shot. ;)

Nothing wrong with that!

Hey even a big guy can fit everything he needs on a belt rig.

Greg

Pretty much, just depends on how high you wanna climb on the ninja/tacticool ladder

That's my biggest complaint. :(

I am excited about what the CHAS three gun groups have to offer. I can't wait to see when they get started up.

Uuhhhh, Pink?... There are only two things I like pink, my Salmon and um, hmmm... I think I'll stop there and keep the next comment to myself! :)

I know WRAS mid season has a meet and greet at Spruce Grove for nominations, range and course of fire discussions and stuff. Again, timing is bad because nothing really goes on during winter other than hype and excitement!.

Hey Doc!
Me and the Greek are planning on shooting as much at any 3 gun matchs in and around Edmonton this year as we can. Give me a call whenever we have been doing a little practicing out at Sherwood Park. I think yer still a member there?

Let me know!

To all who regularly shoot these kind of matches; what kind of limitations are put on pistols? The reason I'm asking is that I've got a Tokarev and have made an FBI style, hi-ride holster with which I have become fairly adept at drawing from. Would there be any reason I might not be allowed to use this pistol?
Cheers,

Oh yeah Brother, still am! I don't know how much move-n-shoot we can get going at SPFGA but we might luck out and have the rifle overflow to ourselves now and again... even if it's not move-n-shoot, rounds downrange are still productive!

I'll facebook you and make sure we have all the relevant numbers for each other.

And yes, shotzee, there's definitely room for one more! You and JJ/"The Greek" would get along quite well. We'd make an interesting shooting foursome - like golf, but I'd actually hit something.

Based on what you've described, I can't see there being a problem... but then again, I'm the ultra-noob who started the thread so my advice is worth what you've paid for it! :D

From official rules I've seen, shoulder mounted, and cross draw isn't allowed, but I suppose it varies. Best answer is....maybe.

And Doc, Next weekend is looking quite nice weather wise!!!

I do not organize these events, but there is noissue that I can see.

There is always someone nice enough to bring extra gear and by posting in these threads, it could conceivably possible to arrange to have someone help fill in the gaps of your equipment.

I usually pack an extra pistol, various mags, and my trusty pump shotgun for those eventualities :)

It is... I may bring my shovel and my 4WD out to Spruce grove and see what's up.

I just need to know the match schedule, so I can plan to be sick, seeing as I work Saturdays now.

Oh crap. I just remembered my boss reads these forums too.

I meant I've gotta make arrangements to alter my Saturday workload to squeeze in some matches. Yeah, that's it. :D

Working Saturdays sucks...I must have been the sickest guy around last year as I had the "flu" every second weekend it seemed...cough,cough...sniffle. A guys gotta do what we love to do.

I know. The last time I was working Saturdays (summer 08) I missed a LOT of shooting.

I think my boss is the type of guy to let me find some balance, because I love to make money just as much as I love to shoot stuff.
