Shorten PAL Approval Times

OK, I sent my paperwork in via registered mail., waited a couple days, then called to confirm the delivery as per the #1 post. Lady told me that she doesn't know if they got it, if they did its down in "data entry" and waiting to be put in. So thus delivery was not confirmed through her nor did it show up online during the next few days. Did I get the runaround? Should I call again?

Help me o mighty GUNNUTS! ;)

I don't think it would hurt to call again...unless they log it every time to you call in and then in your interview they ask why you're so eager.

EDIT: I've called in twice since my app went into the processing state, and each time they tell me the 45 days thing. This time the guy told me it didn't appear that any info was missing. No offer to transfer me for my interview.

it took them 5 business days to get my application online.
i called after the day they recieved it and the 3rd day, then i waited until the 5th day and checked online it was there.

I'm pretty sure that the clock starts ticking at the date they list under "Application Received". That is 3 days later than the post office date.

I have followed everything in this forum and so far things are right on track. Interviews are done and I'm just waiting for my 28 days to complete then send it to printing. HOPEFULLY..

Sent my PAL application and was received Feb 11/11...it took about 5 days before it was received online. A couple of days later I called to confirm that there were no hiccups with information. About a week later it was through initial processing. I received my card in my mailbox on March 18/11. I can't ask for much better than that for a new application.

I sent my application off on the 2nd of March, I just got off the phone with them and they told me they've not recieved it there yet, its the 21st now, it should have been there by now, shouldn't it? I live in Victoria BC and had to send it to New Brunswick, so that's a hell of a distance for it to travel, and i know NB has gotten a bit too much snow this season, so hopefully that's the reason for it taking this long?

has anyones application been lost? what are the steps needed if it gets lost?

My dads app got lost for 2 months ... after calling around awhile they found it sitting on someone's desk in a pile with other stuff. After they found it he had has PAL within a week :)

I sent my app out on March 12th, the tracking number said it was delivered on March 17th. It is march 21st and still has not been put on the system. I am sure it will be up by the end of the week

I sent my Application in on March 6th by registered mail and tracking shows it was in Miramichi on March 10th.
It is still not coming up online and it's March 21st!!
I did call CFC last Wednesday (early I know) But really, it takes 11 plus days to be put in the system?

Ok.. My application was sent by Expresspost on Feb 23rd and post office said it arrived on Feb 28th. CFC website says application received on March 4th. So it took mine about 5 days to be put into the system.

Seems like everyone's application is different. I wonder when they actually start counting the 28 days.

In any case, I followed the instructions here and it has been proceeding without a hitch. Myself and both references called in and were interviewed.

They just called and interviewed me, as well as called my references right after me. The interview was a lot less intrusive than I was lead to believe. Just asked me the crap that was on my application. Only weird question they asked my references is if I forced them to sign it, or blackmailed them or something. Other than that, was pretty good. Lady was polite, even joked around a bit.

EDIT: Uh oh, just talked to my references. I said I've known my girlfriend for 5ish years, she said "over 3". My other reference said like 3-4 years, I said 5-6.... I could see that coming back to bite me in the ass.

We're in the same boat. I sent mine registered on the 7th, it was signed for on the 11th. I think I'll phone them again, because I just keep getting an error message in my browser. I have a little pressure on, as I am going to be a vendor at a Gun&Antique show here on April 2/3, and they want me to have a valid PAL. Right now, all I have is an expired POL.

Call them.
No 28 day wait and no interviews, but if you need your actual card in hand you better get on them.

Just called in. They are "a few days behind" entering the applications into the system. The error message I am getting on the site is apparently not normal, and they are looking into it (he said he just got off the phone with another person getting the error, too). I do have a backup plan for the show, but c'mon - it's a freaking gun show, and I won't be able to buy anything if I don't get my licence before then! Oh well, guess I just need to keep checking 4X a day, and phone them a couple more times. Hopefully it'll get done in time - if not, it just means I won't be able to score any deals.

I just checked the website again, and its there today, my name has a second capital letter in it, and they didn't input it that way, so when i typed my name in the way I spell it it didn't show up, so i tried without the capital and there i am, and have been since the 8th or march. so i was getting worked up for no reason. now to wait

Captain's Log 20110322.1 - 37 Days for PAL/RPAL

After transporting down to the Vancouver, BC area, per the prime directive I decided to give up my phaser and obtain a primitive device called a handgun in order to blend in with the local inhabitants.

I quickly discovered a somewhat complicated process of obtaining the required authorization from the governing authorities. The following are the steps and timelines it took to obtain the license:

Jan 15/16 - CFSC/CRFSC course
Jan 28 - Mailed PAL/RPAL application to the RCMP in Miramichi, NB via ExpressPost
Feb 1 - Received by D Brown...according to Canada Post (the clock starts ticking)
Feb 4 - Application status not yet available online; I called and was told it could take 2 to 3 weeks to get into the system (very polite CSR)
Feb 8 - Application status available online and indicated that my application has completed initial processing and that it is now in progress. It also said it was received on Feb 1
Feb 15 - Received call from CFO for my interview; another friendly CSR who also indicated my references had already been contacted and that my license will be issued once the 28 day waiting period is up
Mar 1 - Application status stated "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued."
Mar 10 - License received (clock stops ticking)

A total of 37 days from when it was received by the RCMP to when I had the license in my hands. Good thing Scotty was smart enough to beam down to the West Coast.

Captainkirk, thanks for the detailed events and timing. I just sent in my application on Monday, got my (R)PAL courses on march 26-27, hopefully it goes according to plan aswell. I was told at TargetSportsCanada by the range officer that it takes roughly 8months :p I was holding my breath till I got back on here, is there any truth to that comment ...anyone?

Anyone know if theres any truth to the colored envelope theory in respect to PAL times? I have heard stories of a purple envelope meaning the PAL is required for employment and bumps it to the start of the line.

You're welcome.

Based on my readings on CGN...there are differences in the processing steps between provinces. It seems like BC moves along pretty fast compared to Ontario.

Only in Ontario.
If someone waits 6 weeks for 'stamped' results, then sends it in regular mail and waits until it gets processed no doubt it will be longer than it needs to be. Don't think that it would take 8 months though.

That is true, New Brunswick is the winner in terms of fast service.
