JR Carbine Unboxing, Firing & Takedown Videos

It's a pretty good little bench for in front of the shop. Fairly light, mostly sorta solid/a bit wobbly, smooth swivel and a pretty big surface to put stuff on. It also comes apart and folds up easily, which makes it easy to put somewhere in the fall, pile stuff around it and make it difficult to dig out in the spring.

I got it through cabelas.ca for $190 last year, and because of their bizarre shipping rate schedule it only cost $15 to ship. I don't see it listed there any more though, but there are a couple of other models available.

Where it would really shine is in the back of a pickup in a nice gopher patch. It could be taken down so the tonneau cover will still roll for the trip, and then quickly reassembled for a beeeyoootiful elevated swivel shooting position that's nice and comfortable.

But I hear that's illegal. so I would never do that.

Thanks for the info. Are you sure about the illegal part? That was pretty much exactly what I was thinking of doing.:(

I was poking a bit at Eric 911's post about shooting over the hood of a truck (which he never did come back with the facts about. Hmmmm.). Anyways, I have never been able to find anything that explicitly states it's illegal, but that also doesn't mean it isn't. Having said that, my bench just happens to fit perfectly in the box of an 07 Quad Cab, with full freedom of movement through 270 degrees. :)

Just an FYI. My JR carbine is heading back to the shop [the Gundealer in NB]. It started out fine but is now having a problem with light strikes on the primers. It might shoot two or three rounds and then, "click". I cleaned the hell out of it thinking that there might have been some sort of buildup in the chamber which was keeping the cartridge from seating all the way, and tried different ammo but to no avail. Probably something simple but I don't see it.

Improperly sized reloads possibly? or Factory ammo?

No, they are sized properly and go through a case checker and my 9mm CZ just fine. There is a video of a guy with the JR on youtube with the same problem. It worked fine after sending it back for repairs. May have something to do with the blowback system? I don't know.

Picked mine up in person today instead of getting it shipped. Epps had 50 of these a few days ago and they are all sold. Quality is amazing. Very happy so far. Going to the range tomorrow.

Going to the range tomorrow.

Let me know how it is. I've been thinking of one of these (or a Sub2k). I've handled a Sub2k and like how it can fold for transport/storage. But for shooting, I'm thinking the JR might be better.

I also like the ability to easily change parts on the JR....

You could do what I did for threading (because I have no feed on my tiny lathe) and make a die holder for the tailstock. All you need is the die in that case. IIRC I paid $12 for my 28 tpi die at KBC tools...

PS Thanks for the vids and review. I have a serious need for one of these now.

Aw man, that sucks. Nothing worse than having to send something back right after you get it. Hopefully she comes back quick.

Sorry for the delay. Still haven't made it out to the range with it yet. :(

Farmer Harv what is your take on the "dry lube" only for the bolt, bolt extension, receiver, and ejection port cover required for the JR Carbine?

The manual says that the gun is engineered to require only minimal lubrication.

The manual mentions oiling it too much could result in excess oil blown out of the charging handle slot on the side of the receiver opposite the open ejection port possibly causing severe injury to the shooter's face and eyes.

Is this common with all blowback operated firearms?

What have you been using for lube?

Thanks!

I agree on minimal lubrication. We used very little in the Army shooting Sterlings. They worked dry too. It is true that too much lube could spray in your eyes. I stopped using a particular .22 blowback because it keep showering me with painful gunk. I am guessing that dry lube (particles) could get shot into your face.

Could anyone point me towards the mag well conversion kits? I would like to use M&P magazines in this rifle.

Thanks

When I bought mine from Epps they said first they will be getting the .40 then the .45 full version. After that they will be getting the conversions for each caliber. As far as the magwell conversion I think you may have to buy the glock full version and order the M&P magwell along with it.

Not having any dry lube around I just gave it 2 drops of Break-Free on each side, and it's been working well so far. I'm guessing they're concerned with a potential build up of stuff from the unlocked blowback operation, but I haven't seen much with the factory ammo I've been using.

Having said all that...what's the consensus on a good dry lube? Powder, spray, moly, graphite...?

I have the Glock version on order. Where can I order the M&P magwell?
