Shorten PAL Approval Times

I spoke with the CFC yesterday and they assured me that the 28 day period starts on the day which they received your application (for me June 20).

She wasn't able to tell me for sure if it had been sent to or approved by the Ontario CFO yet, but she said the status on their system doesn't show "Awaiting completion of 28 day waiting period" unless the CFO has signed off on it. So, based on that, she said it should be finalized by July 18.

Will update with timeline once I get an update.

This was a new application for PAL/RPAL in Ontario. I did the courses last year, but didn't send the app off until June.

Hoping to join a local club and get an LTATT for transporting to and from there. I've read a few things about the Ontario CFO not issuing LTATT, can someone verify that you were able to secure an LTATT in Ontario with a club membership?

Cheers

Update:

So, day 28 is here, and low and behold:

Application Received on: 2011/06/20

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

June 13: Sent forms and CFO stamped test results to Miramichi via Courier
June 20: Showed up on website
July 6: Photo has been scanned and I was able to do my interview
July 6: First reference called in to do phone interview.
July 13: Second reference called in to do phone interview. (They called both on July 6, but second wasn't avail until 13)
July 15: System in Miramichi indicated my application was simply waiting on my 28 day waiting period as I am a new applicant.
July 18: Day 28 and license is approved.

This is for a new applicant for PAL/RPAL in Ontario.
I had completed my initial tests and safety courses in 2009. I suppose I could dig up the test forms and see how long the CFO took to stamp those, but being that it was a few years ago now, that info probably isn't of any use to any of you.

Now we'll see if this thing shows up in the mail any time soon!

One more question, if I want to purchase a restricted firearm before getting a range membership, is it possible to strictly get a STATT to transport from the store and then subsequent STATT to bring to a range as a guest if I wanted to shoot? I would eventually like to get a membership at a club, but I'd prefer if I could spend some cash on a toy first!

Just called in now so thought I would give an update

June 23 - fedex'ed out my application during the postal strike with results to follow
June 28 - recieved but missing information (test results stamped by CFO)
July 8 - got results in the mail and faxed them in
Today (July 18) - called to check status and see if I could do my interview and have my references (mom and dad due to not knowing anyone in my area over a year) call in. I was told everything is good, no interviews are required and that all that is required now is the 28 day wait period.

Huge thanks to this forum/thread for speeding up the process.

You only did PAL then correct?

Hey just wanted to give a timeline for everyone:

Jun 19: Completed tests, results are sent in by courier ASAP.
Jun 28: Postal strike ends, I send my RPAL application.
Jul 7: CFO stamps my test results.
Jul 12: Receive the results. Faxed them in.
Jul 18: RCMP website shows my application, marked received Jul 8.

Actually seems to be going pretty quickly given the strike and all. Thought maybe they'd be backlogged worse than this.

Not until there are some serious changes. I think it would be more of a pain in the butt than anything due to all the extra rules/regulations/permits etc. I can have just as much fun shooting non-restricted (at least for now anyway)

Why? the test is 90% duplication.. it allows you to posses a restricted etc etc... no one says you have to buy one now. It added another # to the total of RPALS.. and don't be holding your breath for changes yet sadly. :(

Summary: 32 days from receipt to issue.

I'm not able to get Miramichi to even confirm that they have received my application as suggested in the first post. It's been over 2 weeks since it was delivered. Just a heads up.

Update:
16 May received.
2 June posted online! Stephen at Miramichi said they weren't ready to conduct interviews yet, so there's still lots of waiting left.
8 June my interview conducted. Application confirmed "completed correctly."
18 June . "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number."

Yes!

I've bought and paid for a new Benelli at one of our sponsors...as soon as I have my PAL # it's shipping!

And a month later the RPAL card finally arrives in the mail...

O Canada Post, how we love you d:h:

so frustrated. Been on the phone with the CFO and CFC for 2 hours.

Here is my story

my 28 days started june 23 as per the CFC. The CFO has it started the 30. Now from what I am getting from either is no one can fix this mistake. So i will have to wait an extra week. I have already been waiting since march 13. I am so frustrated with the whole process. I feel like there is nothing i can do anymore.

The CFO was even telling me the 28 days starts when they start looking at your application not when they received it. After telling her she was wrong she told me there is nothing i can do for you. So i try to get the CFC to contact the CFO to get the right info and they won't do it. They are telling me to call back in a week. When last week I spoke to the CFC and they told me my rpal will be released on the 21. Now back on the phone with CFO to see what else can be done.

Whomever was saying that at the CFO is most definitely wrong... but given the CFO is usually very dumb it should be no shock

i was getting so frustrated but trying to stay calm. i kept asking her there is nothing else i can do she kept telling me no. i kept telling her there is always a solution don't tell me no hahah

i did. she said. that's our policy and our 28 days is policy i said i understand the 28 days what i don't understand is why your info is different from the CFC and how can we fix it. her answer always. call back next week heh

I'd tell her "Sorry but policy is not law and the law stipulates 28 days from the date it was received at the CFC. The CFO cannot override the law via policy". Now you are overstepping your authority and are misinformed. If you will not abide by this give me your supervisor."

:D

Called today, they still haven't paired my test results with the application. Said to call back tomorrow and see if they've found them yet.
