What was your first rifle ever? Do you still own it?

I read this and it made me think then suddenly it hit me, my first rifle, one actually owned and registered by me was my SKS, that I bought a little over a year or so ago. I've owned shotguns for years and used several rifles over the years but my FIRST rifle would have to be that SKS... I never really thought about that for some reason... I've bought a couple since the SKS but in some odd way she was my first. :)

My first rifle was an air rifle (I owned a few) :D

However, my first firearm was a 1954 SKS. This was back when they were about $350 ! I recently sold it (at a loss) as it held absolutely no sentimental value to me. I own a few more SKS's: one is prettier and a great shooter, and one is unissued and non-refurbished... so I'll keep them for those reasons.

Remington

Well I was lucky enough to be given a 303 British, and 22LR to tide me over until I was able to purchase a Remington BDL Custom Deluxe in 30-06. I still have it and it was the rifle I shot my first big game animal with, a moose. I'll sell most other stuff in my collection before I sell "my first".

The first gun I purchased was a Musgrave Palma rifle in about 1985 from my former shooting coach. I haven't competed since the early 90's but I still have it.

I had a lot of guns given to me and even won one between then and 2006 when I made my second rifle purchase, a Remington 700 Sendero SFII in 300 RUM, which I still have.

I bought an IGA double barrel new and a .357 Colt King Cobra in the years between, sold the shotgun last year and traded the Colt on a SBH 44 Mag years ago. Still have the Ruger.

Been buying guns fairly steady since '06, mostly from CGN.

First gun.

First real gun was a North American Arms Company (NAACO) "Grizzly" No.10 bolt action .22LR. Given to me on my 9th birthday in 1968. Still own it and have had my two kids shooting it since they were 5.

Browning T bolt .22.

Walked in to a Midland Ont. store with $74 in my pocket, back in '65. 14 years old.
Walked out with the T bolt(uncased) and a box of CIL Whiz-bangs. No paperwork other than a bill of sale.

Broke the stock in half at the wrist back in '76, up Alaska way, during a rather energetic ###ual encounter with the(ex)wife in a van camper. Think hard push against soft case, at the bottom of a tiny bed. :bump:

Spliced 'er back together, and that accurate 'lil rifle is still here by my side, ... Wifey?, well, that split never did get spliced.

Grandson is coming of age. Figure it'll be his when he's old enough to be told the real reason for those funky inlays in the stock.

First purchase myself was a new Winchester Model 70XTR Sporter Magnum chambered in Remingtons glorious "Big Seven". One of the last of the Olin gun's before the USRA rifles came out circa 1981.

Still have it, and it killed my largest buck to date, on body weight, back in 1983.

The 1st rifle I bought for myself was a Stevens Model 14 1/2 single shot .38-55. It came with a tong style loading tool and a bullet mold. I was 17 (in 1959) - I had so much fun with that rifle! I wish I still had it!

My first purchased rifle was a Ruger M77 30-06. Walnut blued.
Love it still have it and hunt with it for island deer and moose.
Put a Leopold 3x9, 50mm scope on it.

Heavy gun but what a beauty to shoot

CIL (AnschĂĽtz) Model 310, .22. It was a birthday present when I was 14 (1966...ARGGGGHHHHHHHHH!). Haven't shot it in quite a while but I still have some targets showing 5 rounds in 1 1/4" @ 100 yards, when there was no wind.

ordered myself a browning x-bolt before they were released as a part of a pro plan..... bought myself a shotgun and a savage 110 before it finally came.

so either one, but the browning has the sentimental value to me, and one day it will kill something

Right on!
I have inherited two of these gems! They shoot awsome even to this day.
My son will inherit them.

I hadnt met anyone else who has these rifles yet.

My Dad got me a .303 sporter, built on a No. 1 back when I was 13, so about 20 years ago.

I still have it, I put the metalwork into a cheap Butler Creek stock (I think).

Unfortunately it was drilled and tapped and has a one-piece base on it.

And part of the rear sight is missing.

Ideally I'd love to get the rear sight parts replaced (or just a new rear sight) and drift the front back to center (or get a new front) and pull the base off and fill the holes, maybe give it a reblue or Armacoat.

Nothing wrong with a .303 with decent irons in a tough plastic stock for a beater gun. It's probably been through a lot worse than I'd ever put it through.
