Anyone bought a new Savage lately?

I've definitley thought about the SS model 14 as well Mad Dog, they're a great looking rifle. On the Savage site though they don't offer 250 in that one only blued wood like you've ordered. And in the floor plate model Stainless model 16. All an aside for me tho I changed my mind, what else is new, and looking at a 260 rem which would be a little more versatile for this particular thought bubble. LOL

I have the SS in 270, great gun

My Remington model 7 had a 3 lb trigger pull right out of the box, but I never have had a 700. Are the 700 triggers really that bad?

For an american factory trigger 3 pounds is light, I believe because of liability problems Remington are 6 pounds and anything you do to lighten the trigger pull relieves them of the liability

I have a Sako that once you "set" the trigger if you breath on it to hard it goes off, but then again they are european

It would be irresponsible for any manufacturer to have a very light trigger set from the factory. Don't you think Remington has had enough of a bad rap about their triggers than to have them so light that accidental discharges are the inevitable result? On a hunting rifle, 5lbs-6lbs is quite livable as long as it has a crisp pull and not an unacceptable amount of over-travel. If you want to adjust the trigger, it's easily done. Not a big issue at all.

Target triggers are another story all together. They have little place on hunting or general purpose rifles.

As for Savages. I've owned (4) new rimfire and centerfire models over the last (10) years. I'm not likely to own another.

Ya, I kicked myself in the arse after I ordered the 250 Sav cause I figured if I would have ordered the 260 you could go with an easy switch barrel set up with it. The 260 is based on the 308 casing so you could switch out 243, 260, 7mm-08, 308 and even a 358 if you had the barrel made.

Savages are B.A. Ugly but I' really like their design, baffles and a block. I,too have had feeding issues,my latest Savage ,a SS 243 center feed clip, isn't dealing with 6.5mm RM perfectly. Maybe my last tweaks will do it? BTW my early 80s Reminton 700 30-06 will haystack.

My Savages are a few years old. I have an LRPV repeater in 22-250 and a 114 American classic. Both are good rifles. I rebarelled the American classic as I'm trying to get an extremely accurate rifle, and with the new barrel I'm cheaper than a Mark V or A-bolt. I have no comment on the Weatherby but the Brownings aren't worth what they are asking.

Out of the box the Savages seem more accurate then any other rifle in their price point or even higher. With this being said, there isn't the quality you see on the Winchesters for example (new manufacture).

It seems Savage can't keep up with the demand and maybe the quality is suffering. But from my experience I'll buy another Savage before I buy a Tikka, Weatherby, Remington, or Browning. But I think I'd buy a Ruger or a Winchester next, as both are top notch for the money.

I've heard this said a lot. I think that they can be very accurate rifles. They don't carry an accuracy guarantee and I've seen some that aren't.

I will say that other rifles in their price class DO carry an accuracy guarantee and shoot very well indeed.

As previous stated, I have 6 Weatherby Vanguards and all shoot sub-moa. They all love nosler bullets and will put them into 1" or less at 300 yards from a leadsled. No bull.

In a recent issue of field and stream, they reviewed some budget rifles and found the sample of the savage they had to be not that accurate. I will have to check it but it was not sub-moa.

The MOST accurate rifle they tested, was the Marlin XS7.

Savage shoot well for a $300.00 rifle, but they are not more accurate than those that cost more. That is a ridiculous statement. Btw, a $900.00 Browning is much better value, quality, reliability, accurate and aesthetically pleasing rifle than a savage at ANY price.

Well,:) as/post #18, that's my only Savage and with decent glass on it, that's basically how it 'shot out of the box':D. While not necessarily in the market for another Savage,;) I'll keep this one.

Savage rifles are garbage. Even their $2500 rifles have the same crap finish and bolt face.

I've read all sorts of things. Just as I've heard a lot of opinions.

Those Howa built Vanguard's seem more accurate than the higher priced Weatherbys. Haven't seen many in action but people speak pretty high of them.

No matter how you slice it, I like my Savages as do a lot of people. I don't see me getting rid of them anytime soon.
