Picture of the day

quad mount 40mm bofors, gravity fed from 4 round clips, you could get 1.5 clips in the gun at a time i think. you can see the clips in racks infront of the gun

i bet the terrified woman in the middle is some politicians wife

I've seen this photo before...It's a man wearing either a headset or earmuffs.

A Sherman tank of the Canadian Greanadier Guards liberating Holland.Note all the "extra" armor in case they ran into any German tanks.A 88 would go through a Sherman like a hot knife through butter at 2000+ yards.

We saw that "Wehrmacht Kommandanteur" sign in other photo recently didn't we?

A lot of these photos were taken in series naturally. The photographer would shoot a string and then pick out the best ones for printing or publication.

wehrmacht soldiers, possible grenadiers hitching a ride on a pzIII I believe.

Manchurian Poytechnic High School shop class final project, 1938.

Toshiro (far right) did all the welding. Tanaka (center front) adapted a motorcycle engine to power it. Big Larry (center rear) was responsible for paint and Dennis (far left) was old enough to buy beer. Mr. Fujiyama (2nd from right) is the proud teacher.

"Nice work, boys. Now go invade someone."

bomb bay of a lanc, i got to see one fly a few years back here
note how long it is and that its carrying 14x 1000lb bombs, the americans loaded up their planes with big 50 cals and armour, but put tiny bomb bays in them, a b17 could carry about 1/3 the bomb weight with 400 mile shorter range

I think the Mosquito carried about the same bomb load as a B17.

The Lank was a real warhorse. But it did not have deicing. It boggles the mind to think kids with low hours were flying these things at full gross, at night, in :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:ty weather.
