Thureon Defense 10mm Review/Pics/Chrony Results! (AKA My Very First KB!!)

To the OP if you have a scale could you weigh the bolt ,I'm curious. By the way increasing the recoil spring force will not help a pre-mature opening bolt (if that is the problem) only bolt mass can help.

Yes I am aware the recoil spring does almost nothing. I have a solid steel buffer on the way from thureon and I also bought a heavy buffer. I am going to do everything I can to increase the weight acting against the cartridge. On top of that I am tailoring loads for the rifle. I shouldn't have any more issues... I hope!

Tagged for interest. I find it hard to believe they would manufacture a 10mm rifle that couldn't handle commercially available loads. That's just dangerous and irresponsible.

No problems with commercial rounds ( 550 rounds tru already ) they are not hot loaded but quite satisfactory... JP.

The guy was shooting handloads. Some where along the way this thread has taken a turn the way it wasn't intended. I'm not saying B's loads were unsafe, I'm just saying anything is possible - especially when rolling your own ammo. So what if Thureon didn't test their rifle with some obscure boutique brand ammo? BFD. As long as the company used known quantity proof loads readily available factory ammo in its testing fegim, then it doesn't matter.

Obviously, Thureon beefed up its intenal components to increase reliability. I hope this prevents another issue on B's end. No one likes to see this kind of thing happen.

On my 10mm it takes 22.3 pounds of weight to pull back an unckoded bolt tested with an electronic fishing scale, not scientific but that scale is a good one... JP.

Mine say GA, that why i asked, sorry for you, i would return it for warranty to have it check, my son and i have yet to have a failure with 1000 + rounds 550 on 10mm... 450 on 45 ACP... JP.

I called EPPS and told them I would be returning my Thureon, I'm really disappointed with it to say the least. I expected it be reliable.
Yours was probably defective as they are very reliable, Thureon will do the right thing for you, sometimes shut happens... JP.

What if Thureon didn't test fire them at all ?

I just got back from test firing my new 9mm SA model, lot's of FTF and FTE no matter what the ammo. I am not a happy camper.

How do you know they didn't? What would cause you to believe so? Sorry, to hear of your troubles by the way. I totally empathize with you.

10mm is a boutique cartridge. So why wouldn't it be an expectation that they test all of the few brands that are available. It is a BFD especially if hot loads could cause your rifle to turn into a grenade, handload or commercial.

The GA's are reliable. There was a guy who reviewed his SA a while ago and his worked fine (can't find the thread). Regarding the FTF, check to make sure you have a feed ramp installed on the lower.

Also, are you using the mag that came with it? Because according to this they modify them for the SA models:

They apparently don't like CCI ammo either:

What is this?!?!?!?!?!

Andy has been working on his "secret" project [under the cover of darkness] in the back of the shop while we all toiled with the hardship of building guns, grabbing gear, and then loading the trailer. He finally appeared and a light shown down from the heavens onto his "post ban" gun. *I think I even heard some angles singing. Then, I grabbed it from his hands and slapped a high capacity .40 mag into it (my mistake- it would most likely be a 10 round mag in the post ban) to take pics.

What is this you ask? A2 stock, with a short AR-15 hand guard and front sight. He will be showing it off at the Shot Show and when I get all of the details I (or) he will post them. He was talking about creating a special back sight for this gun - but that will happen after shot show. More details coming soon.

There is no problem with the feed, all the rounds fed perfectly. The mags I was using are marked 'TD pistol magazine', the short 10 rounders, they came with the gun from Epps. I did not use the aluminum cased CCI ammo, everything but.

Sorry, I assumed you meant Failure to Feed, not Fire. Does it have the ejector blade installed on the lower (seen in front of the hammer below)?

Anyway, here is that thread I mentioned before if it's any use to you:

You missed it. The term "boutique" refers to small companies that offer manufactured/re-manufactured ammunition loads that are often specialized and not available in wide spread distribution. This is the ammo that is being referred to - not widely available commercially sourced product.

An analogy to this would be to ask why Thureon didn't test 9mm/.40 S&W carbines with Wolf Ammunition located here in Canada.

The 10mm cartridge has been around since the early 1980's. Are you old enough to remember how the cartridge came to prominence? The 10mm hasn't been the commercial success its marketers had hoped but these carbines are certainly breathing new life into an otherwise relatively obscure cartridge.

For Thureon's sake, I hope they got their design bugs worked out.
