Thureon Defense 10mm Review/Pics/Chrony Results! (AKA My Very First KB!!)

The link Deckart posted is of great value, i intend to respect that for all the ammo i will use in TD 10mm, the part of putting a little dab of thick heavy grease (marine) and make sure the case is lightly grease is a very good insurance againt head case separation, but unless there are some kind of sure thing coming from TD, i will buy ammo by the case and play safe, those UMC are not loaded to maximun as the velocity announced is at least 200 fps slower than some Buffalo bore ammo... JP

Where do you come up with this nonsense? How can lubing a case do anything but lead to erratic and potentially disasterous chamber pressures via gas leakage out of the chamber area? If the fired cartridge can't properly expand in the chamber and properly seal itself so that the expanding gasses and bullet can escape via the barrel - you're flirting with a potentially unsafe situation.

I read the article you referred to and it's not something I would ever recommend. You want to keep a case head separation from ever happening in a blow-back firearm? It's real easy to do. Just use SAMMI spec cartridges if buying store bought and don't "hotrod" your hand loads. Really, this doesn't need to be as complicated as you're making it out to be.

Call Thureon Defense and ask them if greasing your ammo is a recommended suggestion for using their product. What do you expect them to say?

This link made a lot of sens to me as i know nothing about blowback action, have to start somewhere... JP.

Got to try this lot of PPU PRVI 10mm 180 gr ammo i got from Budget supply (banner sponsor ), over the P35 for a box of 50 rounds got an average of 1405 fps, those are specified at 1050 fps so the improvment in velocity is less than the UMC stuff... It do seem that this ammo is very accurate since all the 50 rounds went on a target at 25 yards true the P35 and offhand, i made a big 2.5 inch hole, i am now at 350 rounds without one single malfunction (did put a little dab of thick grease on each case ) this TD is an excellent rifle... JP.

Haven't heard a thing from TD since they said they would take care of everything... I have already gone ahead and just bought the replacement parts myself including some hefty upgrades like a tungsten buffer and XP springs.

This rifle is giving me great service with commercial ammo, looking forward to see what will happen with your's B, if they do a modification, i will have it done to... JP.

If I am going to get one of these carbines they have to be able to handle top 10mm loads or it just isn't worth it to me.

I do have some mid pressure loads but most of my loads are top pressure = I'm not into loading a special reduced pressure round or buying commercial I'd pass on the rifle before I would do that.

I agree cam... I bought this rifle assuming it would handle loads my pistols have no issues at all with. Even with the upgrades I am working on I doubt this rifle will ever handle full pressure ammunition without risking another casing failure. The 10mm is just too much for any reasonable straight blowback design.

Yet, you appear to be one of the few who have had an issue, no?

I have been contacted by a couple others who apparently aren't willing to share the issues they have had. One even has a well travelled TD thread here on CGN showing off his purchase. Considering the small numbers of 10mm/.45 TD rifles released, let alone up here in Canada this could be somewhat of a big deal.

The long case of the 10mm even if not loaded full trootle ( commercial loads ) is giving very satisfactory power 1400-1500 fps is a lot of zip for a 180 gr bullet, this rifle is on it's way to officialy replace my SR-22 as a plinker, after 350 rounds, all i can say is the big 10mm with the 1X4 CMR Hilux... ROCKS... and on a final note, 4 Glocks 10mm ( fully loaded ) mag were on the dinner table and some shooting buddys ( neiborgs ) showed up for a little talk... peoples are not use to this caliber, it do spark a lot of interest seeing the 10mm # printed on the Glock mags... JP.

Well, that's truly a shame. Are they embarassed or what? Regardless, if they're that problematic it shouldn't take much effort to discover other negative testimonials - especially US based ones. It'll just be a matter of time before someone here has an issue and reports it.

I do love the simplicity and quality of this rifle. Even with the price increase they are a good buy. I am going to pick up a 9mm sooner or later. The holidays hit my wallet pretty hard.

Finally received a reply from thureon. They have designed a new buffer and are shipping one out to me. Ill post some pictures when it arrives.

There are rail bits you can buy for the tapped holes on the round handgaurd. The complete rail kits are not available though. I heard epps is the canadian warranty center and is looking at bringing some in to be installed for those who wish to upgrade.
