round went off in magazine 1911

Damn lucky you didn't lose a sizeable chunk of your hand.

Now we see why they say don't put your hand under the grip of a pistol when shooting...

Because that's where the pressure goes when there is a problem in the chamber.

Here's what the FN looks like after the Kaboom

Not exactly as friendly as the SR1911

I think it would be of interest and pertinent to see what that stuck round looks like if you can get it out.
Someone noted above about pressure from a case setting off the next cartridge in the mag, or just the pressure itself going into the magwell
Good thing you walked without injury

Good question.

Seeing as these were reloads, I almost wonder if there was a chance that the case was cracked while loading, allowing some burning powder during extraction to slip into the case and ignite the powder... or if it is simply a primer detonation.

Need to see the case to know more.

I doubt just a round going off in the mag would blow it up like that. Sounds like a double charge or something. Did the stuck round still have a primer in it?

Beat me to it. Stuck case will tell the story me thinks.

I know of a case where a Colt Commander in 9mm went "Blooey!" Owner admitted to a double charge of Bullseye. One grip was shattered and the floorplate of the mag was forcibly ejected along with the remaining rounds.
His hand looked looked like he had held onto a firecracker. I still have the Colt medallion I picked off the ground. I offered it to him and he declined ....

that damn bullseye in 45acp, you can triple charge and still sit a bullet if you don't pay attention

Wth is it with people on this site and quoting pictures. This thread is about the incident that the photos are from, do we really need people quoting and taking up a full page with pics we already saw when the OP posted them?
