Shorten PAL Approval Times

Just checked online and it's says in progress....Is now the time to call and see if they will do my interview on the spot? or will they get pissy for pestering them? Oh and they have already charged my visa....

Pester them :)

Also get a case/ref # so you can have your references call in instead of waiting... (all of this is covered in the start of this thread btw)

Mine's being processed too. Took about 5 - 6 weeks for it to show up on the site though. I did interviews two weeks ago for my buddy and he had his license the very next week so it's pretty quick after the interview process.

This is why anyone applying should be calling them routinely.. and complaining to their MP's etc over the unreasonable delays that are undoubtedly done intentionally.

Create political pressure to force them to get off their asses and more evidence as to why the entire system needs to be scrapped.

Just spoke with them today and they are saying its taking at least 4 weeks to enter new license applications into the computer and that this is due to a backlog of applications.

So far 3 weeks to get on my PAL course, 4 weeks to get the results back.

They were estimating 2 months assuming no issues with back ground checks or delays in interviewing references.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

So quick update on my RPAL upgrade:

June 8 Test written
June 9 paperwork started
June 10 Application mailed via Registered Mail & test results on there way to CFO according to my examaner

Well my application just got approved over the phone by the BC CFO and I didn't wait for any of that 90 days nonsense.

My application was received on the east coast April 15 and I've been patiently waiting ever since. Was starting get to annoyed today since it's been almost 2 months and decided to make some phone calls. The 800 number told me it's at the CFO's desk and they approve them in the order they got them. Called the CFO and they're like yeah this all looks good, license approved, you'll get it within 2 weeks. It updated instantly online to license issued as well.

Well, I waited 3 weeks and called yesterday. I had a real live person on the line in 4 min, she was very pleasant and looked in a couple places. She apologized and said it was taking 4-6 weeks to get the paperwork opened, scanned and online. She said check back in a week and keep an eye online. I'm just going to phone once a week to make sure there's no missing info until it shows up online.

see this post... the more we raise hell about such BS the more reason for the CPC to eliminate the entire farce (c-68 / c-17)

Well I just hit the 90 days yesterday and called in. Called the Ontario CFO and asked to be redirected to the person handling my file. Asked her why it was taking so long and apparantly someone with same last name and year of birth had a criminal record and this stopped the system from pushing my application through. She asked for my number and told me she'd call me back to let me know when my application was done. I got a call around 4:30 same day telling me she did a background check and pushed the application through. Told me they only print on thursdays so hopefully I'll finally have my card sometime late next week.

coughcoughbull####cpough @ them

they have to do such by accurate DOB not month alone.... but your calling them called their bluff and hence why it was pushed.

how does having a criminal record affect the application approval times? the application asks if there have been any issues in the last 5 years, but says nothing about anything before that or asks if the individual has a record. didnt see anything in the firearms act or criminal code that would prevent obtaining a PAL unless the sentence was 10 years or greater. anybody have any info/insight about this?

True and it does not unless you have a prohibition order still in effect etc.

The current system for getting your PAL/RPAL wouldn't be so bad if it were a consistent process that had everyone receiving equal treatment. They tell you to wait for 4 months at the 800 number but the CFO doesn't seem to mind if you call as soon as your waiting period is up for them to push it through. It's frustrating to say the least on how it's set up.

Ughhhh, just called the CFO to check on the status of my PAL application. Turns out it's up for further review, I didn't say yes to anything, but I was unemployed when I applied (just had got back from university). I'm at 63 days now.
