T97 vs Tavor Threads Merged

I think this will shape up to be a good thread, not so much comparing which is better, but what the differences are etc.

I look forward to your range report. Someone should put on a good optic at 20x and do some REAL accuracy testing of the t97.

T97 = ugly step child, you just want it out of the room!

That is pretty fugly. A flat top version would go a long ways to sorting that out, but I don't think that is in the cards any time soon.

can we get a picture of the right side? im not seeing any mag release. is it on the left and i just cant see it?

OP said it is on the RH side. If you look at the magwell you can see what looks like the catch from an AR in the magwell, above the serial #. I bet the release is a twin to the AR style from what we can see here. That is massively inconvenient on a bullpup, though.

I don't mind the carry handle on an inexpensive bull pup rifle. Looks ok to me. A buddy got his today and mag release is on the right hand side. Doh. But.. the catch looks like AR ambi style can be used or made to work putting the release on the left side. This would make the situation a lot better.

if the mag release is in the exact same place as an AR then this is a major fail in my mind.

I don't find the T97 ugly, but it looks like it was designed in the 70s. Especially the mid section with the pistol grip and carry handle. Strange for a weapon that was designed at the same time as so many others "modern" looking rifle.

Actually, it looks like a FAMAS prototype. Before someone stepped in and pointed out the ridiculous safety and mag release position.

Your sig looks like something from "The Valley"... Good movie in my books.

It really does look like something straight out of the 70s though... like advancements in the 80-90s never happened... the Marty McFly of firearms.

What is all this talk of 2 moa at 50 yards? A minute of angle is 100 yards. That is like saying "I am 100 % certain of something, except for XYZ"

Caleb has it correct. MOA, degrees, seconds (1 60th of a MOA) are all ANGULAR terms, not fixed dimensions.
The farther away from the apex, the larger the measurement, even though the angle remains the same.
Do the math and you will see that 1 MOA is exactly 1.047 inches at 100Y, and the same 1 MOA at 1000 yards is 10.47"

2moa at 50m is 1" group, 2"@ 100m, 4"@200m..... Etc.How is that bad?

If tou didnt know 1moa= 1"per 100m or 1/60 of a dregee( hence the name minite of angle. 60 minites in an hour and 60moa per degree) or 1/21600 of a circle

A new, $1000 bullpup NON-restricted black rifle on the market and people are still whining, about aesthetics of all things. Good god.

Nice review, can't wait to see a range report. The Type 97 is definitely on my buy list.

I agree !!!!! The Tavor is a work of art compared to the T97 Mutant Foreskin Fish with a Barrel Crammed down its throat. Nothing about the T97 seems functional to me, from the crappy safety to the poor optics mounting location and hideous front sight.

You wanna pay an extra 2000$ and get the Mona Lisa to hang on your wall or save 2000$ and put a movie poster up?

I loved my T-97... well for the time I use to have it.
Was short, ergonomic and well balance. Mags are pieces of crap (like the CQ) so plan to order few mags in the same time if you don't already have an AR with some mags at home.
Overall QC was good enough at that time for me.

Unfortunately, like many of us that had the previous version, I had many miss feed which resulted in a failure. I don't know if it was the feeding ramp or the buffer spring, but when using weak or no canelured ammo such as the Remington UMC, there was many set back on the ammo resulting in a jam of the T-97.

I did not have enough time with it to manage or figured out what was the problem.
I hope Norinco did fix this gremlin, but for me it was enough to not consider this version as "reliable".
What could happen if there is a setback of the ammo but not enough to jam and the ammo was chambered? I think it will result in a maximum pressure and, well you can figure it out G:

A brilliant metaphor, indeed.
Just keep in mind that movie posters have their own niche following, which may accidentally be substantially broader than that of Mona Lisa - even simply because of the price tag difference, if not for any other reason.
I am not advocating either side, this is just an impartial observation. ;)

My personal preference is leaning towards the Tavor, but I'm still mustering the courage to spend that much on a single piece.

To the OP: right on, this is the thread I was hoping to see: not yet another "mine is bigger than yours" feces-throwing battle, but an objective and unbiased comparison of the two (to the extent they ARE comparable at all).

A lot thinner like a crash-kandahar-stomach bug-weight loss kind of diet compared to the Tavor.
Also I find my T97 trigger to have no warning, just an action that is far snappier.

Head Damage, obviously you haven't met my chinese rabbi?
