NEW ITEM: Dominion Arms Socom 18

Am I dumb or is your sling on wrong?

I suppose the two aren't mutually exclusive.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way when it comes to slings. It comes down to what works for you. That said I have (had) my web sling installed in reverse.
I now have a leather 1907 sling installed the USMC way on my M305.

Revival!

Finally got my Soccom cleaned up after about a month of waiting. Everything looks really good, front sight is centered, everything seems to be mostly aligned, bolt lug contact is good. I have found three function issues though:

- Mags require a solid smack to get out, sounds like this is pretty common. Should I try filing down either the mag release or the block on the back of the mag that the release catches or should I just put them in and take them out a bunch of times in hopes that things will loosen up a bit?
- Windage knob does not seem to want to budge, any tricks around that?
- Safety will not stay in the "on" position. It seems to travel far enough and functions if I hold it in position while trying to pull the trigger but will not stay there on its own. It also only moves with the hammer cocked and will barely budge if I try to go from "fire" to "safe" after pulling the trigger before pulling the bolt back.

The first two issues don't bother me too much assuming I can get it sighted in however the safety not functioning does worry me a little bit. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.

Have you shot your rifle yet? The magazine removal will get considerably easier after it breaks in a bit. Same with the safety. It does sound like you are trying to activate the safety without the hammer being cocked. The safety can only be used when the rifle is ready to fire.
Your windage and elevation knobs will free up after you soak them with some solvent, re-oil them and work them back and forth.
So far your rifle sounds about the same as mine was. Mine was a little over indexed and I think I have to replace my magazine release. After audibly and physically clicking in place, the magazines will be kicked out when the bolt is blown back. Still happy with it though.

Go have a read in the battle rifle section there was a tread indicating were to file the mag relese to fix the problem. Mine works like a charm now !

I have handled a few of these SOCOMs now and the only thing i see worse on them than other imports is the mag release and trigger group housing is out of spec a bit on some, easily fixable . As far as the rest of the rifle, indexing , sights , op rod ect. is on par with other china M14s ..

All chinese m14s are for a tinkerer or someone thats mechanically inclined , but once you get them squared away they are great guns . I have owned 7 or so in my day from all different batches and only seen one or two come out of box perfectly assembled with all in spec parts , all the others needed tweaking or some minor part replaced .

Learn something every day, thank you!

I shall check that out, thanks!

Haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, hopefully in about a week or so. Really hoping that everything works out as this seems like a super cool platform that I've been wanting to get my hands on for quite some time.

I just got my Socom out of the box and cleaned up as I haven't had time to tackle it until now. The front site is twisted to the right. I'm not at all familiar with gunsmithing but I assume this is an indexing problem and I don't have the tools (or knowledge) I need to adjust it. Does anyone know of a gunsmith in the Halifax area that could correct this for me?

How is this a problem on so many? Does the QA inspector have a crooked neck?

Not just the inspector with the crooked neck ...some of the workers too .
ALOT of problems with my replacement Socom , good thing I love these rifles and can fix it myself .
Too bad they keep making the same mistakes while assembling these .
I just received a replacement gas locking ring as this is a pic of my last one.

. . . . well now I gotta go check mine

I thought I had given mine a good look. Wasn't expecting crap like this!
I will have to check everything again.

You have to put the top at 90 degrees with the vertical black board, the smaller hole should not touch the board, it should have a larger gap between the board and the smaller hole... JP.

I noticed that a well JP.
The black straight edge is not parallel with the center line of the other piece..... but the top cut where the sight mounts is still not square.

It's an upgrade part...

A windage AND elevation adjustable front sight.

Don't tell anybody or they'll all want one!
