Turmoil in Ukraine and prices on SKS and Ammo

Since ukrainian nationalist are the power in Kiev now. May be they finally start compensating their victims. If Ukrainian nationalists will publicly reject their WW2 ideology they can be distanced from sins of their ancestors. So far they still praise their WW2 Butchers

Video below is not Russian propaganda it is what happened to Polish population of Wolyn 1943-45

One thing everyone should know "the grate starvation happened in all of Russia" it was particularly strong in Ukraine but it never occurred in Western Ukraine it was Poland then. 95% of Ukrainian nationalists come from former Polish territory. 98% of Canadian Ukrainians are from Halichyna former province of Poland and Austria-Hungary.
For all Western Ukrainians please stop playing victims you had nothing to do with "Grate Starvation, Hlodomor"

Well, Razer, again - we all have different opinions. I left that place in 98, and my family comes from both places - Ukraine and Russia. And I don't agree with everything you are saying. It is hard to like Yanukovich, as well as the degree to which the political system in Ukraine is corrupt, fair enough. Then it was the people of Ukraine who elected him democratically, and the Western government recognized the elections as fair.

Now, what happens next is a different story. And your assessment is emotional if anything but accurate.

I'm sorry, the realities of Ukraine is what I was raised in, pre-1991 and after as well.

The normal democratic process was not completely subverted, as you'll recall, the politicians at the time passed through legislation that forbade peaceful protests, this is what sparked the remainder of the events (the beatings, the disappearances and the deaths).

Although you may have missed some of the commentaries from the protests, most people by the end of them didn't quite care about joining the EU, they just wanted to get rid of the corrupt government. I would highly suggest you look up the videos of Yanukovich's mansion etc. The corruption was rampant, nobody can deny that. What's absolutely absurd is that the same thing is happening in Russia, except Putin has everyone so scared internally that nobody will protest or even try to do anything about it (sad more than anything else when the elderly pensions are cut and orphanages get shut down due to lack of funding). This is a universal problem in any post USSR country, I unfortunately don't think too many people would argue about this either.

ALL of that aside:

An invasion is still just that, an invasion.

Polish, Ukrainian, Russian... all of it is just more BooHoo Propaganda from both sides.

Get over it, move on.

Holding on to all these blood feuds only fuel the fires which give us garbage like the wars in the Balkans.

If you are going to go on about Ukraine/Poland etc, is Poland going to compensate people from former East Prussia and the Austro Hungarian Empire? I thought not...

"Can't we all just get along?" ;)

Hey, everyone would happily move on. And realistically everyone has, perhaps with the exception of Ukraine. It will catch up, eventually. It just remains to be seen in which capacity.

My only problem with your post is ignorance (aka, a big problem). It reads like something from RT (one of the many propaganda machines of Putin), and that in and of its own is troubling.

On top of invading a sovereign nation without provocation or cause (seeing as people in Crimea have been living peacefully for many years, both under Yanukovich and every other president before him, Yushchenko could have been considered "ultra-national").

Not a single person I know from Simferopol or Sevastopol was afraid of anything until the Russian special forces showed up (the civilian clothing initially didn't fool anyone who has served in the army).

Long story short, it's all a giant crock of bs.

I could keep going, but this really isn't the forum for it, and I apologize to Westrifle for using their forum in such a fashion.

US or Russia (or any other country for that matter), invasions are never right. Also, it's kinda funny how Putin denounced his soldiers currently there (even after many of them admitted to being Russian, if the full Russian gear and Russian military trucks weren't enough).

It must feel really good to think that you know everything better than anybody else, and only your opinion is important and counts. Your arrogance does not prove your statements. So let’s agree to disagree.

I’m glad to hear that. There were a lot of countries which didn’t support that, and yet the States didn’t give a flying f**k about it and did it anyway. Now think about it - a small country like Iraq, thousands miles away from US posed an imminent threat to them? And now Russia – a country which is sharing a border with Ukraine (whose pro-American, anti-Russian, ultra nationalistic opposition to the officially elected government forcefully and illegally took over Ukrainian government) simply announced they may send the troops to protect the 60% of the Russian population in Crimea if necessary. Just that statement (no troops were sent yet) caused all hell to break loose in the western world. What about the innocent civilians that US is killing with their drones to this very day? Russia has not opened fire on any civilians or protesters. For Russia this new self proclaimed government means another NATO military base placed even closer to them. If you were the president of Russia what would you do?

We'll said sir, my thoughts exactly!!

well...here it begins....

There were three principal opposition factions leading the Ukrainian protest. Two of the groups under most scrutiny (for their supposedly fascist views) Svoboda, whose members hold five senior roles in Ukraine's new government including the post of deputy prime minister, and Pravyi Sector (Right Sector), whose leader Dmytro Yarosh is now the country's Deputy Secretary of National Security.

Right sector who took leading role in the protest is distancing itself from the new pro-EU government in Kiev.
""There has been no reset of power. Only the names in the government offices have changed," he was quoted as saying."
But since US/EU likes the new puppet government and such useful idiots like Right sector are no longer needed "Right Sector was condemned by the US State Department for "inflaming conditions on the streets"."

So they go from heroes to being condemned by US State Department. How ironic.

AND YES, BUY MORE SKS AND AMMO I AM CONVINCED IMPORTS WILL DRY UP :)

umm, not to detour from the current geopolitical debate,
but isn't most of the 7.62x39 from the czechs, romanians, and chinese?
so, ...why would the Ukraine turmoil affect current prices?

nobody should complain if you can get ammo under 300.00 ,i have to pay up to 130.00 extra for shipping from any were in canada.and most folks in the north are at the mercy of local dealers.whitehorse yukon i paid 340.00 for walkout of 1400 corrosive chinese.and i actually saved money.

As of now since November there was no importations of SKS to Canada and there might not be any until May 25 (election day in Ukraine) Call your dealers and ask if they have any sks and all will tell you that they sold out. As to other soviet block country that might have sks I can tell you that they do not have more than 10 000 pcs all togehter and the price for those in a warehouses is anywhere between 150-165 usd dollars . So for those who wait for those to be available for sale at about 350-400 dollars sure wait for those. Other country that has sks is Russian Federation but our government is stopping all importation from Russia at the moment. Now for those who is smart enough and can read between the lines BUY THEM NOW OR PAY MORE LATER . Supply is drying now.
I have about five SKS that left in stock so it is not a PR stunt by me it is warning to all of you that it will be gone from the market.

Then I don't know where 30-50 million of Ukrainian surplus went :) the Romanian ammo came out of Ukraine in some part. In anyway time will show.

NY Times, March 14/2014

In Kiev, Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, and Senator Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, called on the United States to quickly ship American weapons to Ukraine to fortify its army for a potential war with Russia.

The Ukrainian Army has only “a few thousand combat-ready troops,” Senator McCain said. “They would be overwhelmed by the Russians if it came to that. One of their urgent requests is to have us supply them with weapons. I’ll be urging our administration to arrange for that as quickly as possible.”

Seems like the Ukrainians sold off too much Cold War reserve stock?

I really do not see how all the sks's and ammo are coming from the Ukraine? Do you have anything to back this up? As far as I know all the Norincos come from China, there is a different variety of chinese, romanian and some other surplus ammo available right now so I would really like to know how you figure all of this stuff is coming from the Ukraine. Not trying to come off as a jerk I am just honestly curious.

You don't want to fight Russian army with SKS and Mosin : ) Besides I think they are talking mostly about anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles, I would guess Ukraine has more than enough AK and 5.45 ammo.
