Shorten PAL Approval Times

Update:
My second reference was called Mar.17 (after my license showed online as issued - weird!)
I called today Mar.20 to make sure everything was ok and was told the licence was mailed on Mar.17. Strange that it showed as processed and issued Mar.11, and not really finalized until Mar.17.

Man, my schedule is close to yours. I completed my course on Jan 30th. They received it Feb 3, not sure on the online date, but it was around yours maybe a tad earlier. I'm stuck in process. CFC said its with the CFO......

So my card wasn't in the mail today :( I did however find out by calling the CFO that all cards are mailed from New Brunswick . That explains why my card isn't here yet. I'm in BC. Was mailed out March 17th. Should be here next week sometime. Good thing I have to work all weekend anyways :)

Called CFC friday and they told me my application was with the CFO. I said ok thanks. I phoned today so I could change my address as I just moved over the weekend. Address was changed no problem, the woman was really nice. I asked how long it should take, she said 2-3 weeks as the background check had to be finished. I said thank you and have a good day. Was thinking ok, Ive waited this long. Checked my application online now and...

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued

sorry Credit Card :)

Welcome to the "Paper in the mail" waiting list :D Congratulation !

You guys are all lucky -____- the Ontario CFO has had my Restricted test results for over 3 weeks now (approaching 4 weeks since I challenged the test). Still waiting for that rubber stamp........

Of course my Non-Restricted results I sat in a 2 day course for were in and out in 2 and a half weeks.

Thanks Mcbutterpants. Cant wait to get it in the mail.

I guess so, I took a 1 day course for non-restricted on Jan 30. got my results and paperwork before leaving. Mailed it the next day on the 31st. so I guess its pretty quick here.

OMG...
I just did my interview and was told it will be processed tonight and I should have it in 10 days...

Application was received at CFC on Dec 30th, 2013 and today 54 working days later the wait is finally over...

I am so surprised after reading how long some people in Kebec have waited...

No comes the hard part... What to buy ?

Got home tonite and my card was here, Happy dance. All ready got my membership at a gun club this past Saturday and ordered my first gun from Canada Ammo using my licence number provided on the RCMP web site.

Now MORE waiting.....

Card in mail today!!!! March 24 , bank account drained ,will be buying groceries at the dollar store for a while lol. Total wait time 5 and a half months

They received my paperwork for both PAL & RPAL on Dec 31st, and I read the notification on the website last Tuesday that I was approved, with a note to call if I hadn't received my licence within two weeks.

The wait is almost over.....

Thanks Mcbutterpants. Cant wait to get it in the mail.

One night and one saturday course for Non-Res, challenged the Restriced on Sunday. In Ontario the tests are mailed to the CFO who has to stamp them and mail them back before you can get your PAL.

The course instructor mailed both my forms in on the same day, only one has come back >_> what a coincidence

All right Folks, here's my final and complete timeline and infos, if you are from QUEBEC this should give you a pretty good idea what to expect. So here it is :

Very first application, for a PAL/RPAL, from Montreal, Quebec :

(Day -4) Dec 8 : Mailed all proper Paperwork (regular mail, not registered)
(Day 1) Dec 12 : Received by the RCMP, Case opened
(Day 28) Jan 8 : CC was charged, request appeared online.
(Day 44) Jan 24 : Called Miramichi - "Your application has ben sent to the Quebec CFO, still in progress"
(Day 51) Jan 31 : Called Miramichi - "It's a RESTRICTED PAL so it's 60 days, not 45, still in progress"
(Day 51) Jan 31 : Called CFO - "Everything is normal and under standard procedure, please expect a phone call soon"
(Day 54) Feb 03 : Called CFO for my interview - "Not the time yet, wait until the interview team calls you within 2-3 weeks, we are treating a lot of requests"
(Day 57) Feb 06 : Called CFO to see for my interview (again) - "Not yet the time for your interview, THEY will call you, 2-3 weeks. They are very busy"
(Day 71) Feb 20 : Called Miramichi - "Your request is in the final stage at the Quebec CFO, thanks for calling.."
(Day 72) Feb 21 : Called CFO - "Sir, you called several times, it won't change anything. Everything is in order, WE WILL call you back within 2 weeks"
(Day 93) Mar 14, 11:33AM : Called CFO - "Please hold the line" ... "Thank you for holding, what phone number can we easily reach you at ?" ... "Thank you, you will be called in 24-28hres"
(Day 93) Mar 14, 4:57PM : Received a text from both my references and before i could reply my phone rang and i got my Interview that went like that : "Are you Depressed" -No, "Why do you want a Firearm" -Go to my local range, "Are you violent" -No, "Thank you very much, have a nice day". 10 minutes later my status had changed online.
(Day 103) Mar 24 : RPAL in the mail ! First time i actually saw what it looks like !

Be patient, very patient. Now the saga isn't over.. now the wait for my Transport Permit !

My Final Timeline;

Province: B.C.

App mailed: Jan. 14th
App received: Jan. 20th
App showed online: Feb. 14th
Called in on Feb. 28th to check status was told that it was at the reference stage and to have one reference call in
Reference called in on Feb 28th

Called in on Mar.11th to check status, was told application was at the provincial cfo
Called in on Mar. 18th to check status, was being held for enhanced screening

March 24th, Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued

47 Working days / 64 days total, this was for an expired Pal/Rpal reapplication, I have no clue what enhanced screening was, Only one reference was used and myself or my wife were not contacted

My application was delivered on Monday (Jan 27th) and I called today to confirm that they received my RPAL application. The lady was very pleasent and while it wasn't in the system yet, she did mention that they are about 4-5 weeks backlogged (which lines up with what another poster was told). It's going to be a long slog I think!
So, during my process of getting my RPAL, I had forgotten to get my wife to sign the form as my guarantor, so I had to wait for them to send the form back. (Received form on March 3rd, shipped back the same day, received by them on March 7th).

I called on March 7th to confirm they had received the signed form and was told that it would take approximately 2 weeks to process.

I left for a weeks vacation and just got back yesterday. I checked online this morning and it said my application was in progress, so I called and was informed that they tried to reach me for my interview. I was immediately put through to complete the interview, and was then informed that they had tried to contact my references, but were unable to reach them. I told them that I would have them call in and the lady was more than happy to hear that.

I talked to my references after they completed their interviews, and they were told that a letter was mailed to them yesterday for the interview.

I checked the status online and did the happy dance.... "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

So, the timeline for ONT (with my screw-up);
Application Received : January 27th, 2014
Completed Form Received: March 7th, 2014
Interviews Completed: March 25th, 2014

Now just awaiting the card... 2 months is a whole lot better than I was expecting! Probably would have been quicker if I hadn't goofed on the application form!

Here's my timeline:

January 11-12: Did nonrestricted course
January 15: Challenged restricted
January 23: Received by CFC
February 20: Called to check, did interview on the spot
February 22: Reference called, did interview
March 13: Called to check, spoke with a great agent and she flipped the switch, RPAL approved and license number now online.

I was told that my application did NOT have to go to the BC CFO for review and they are only doing one reference interview right now.

Should have my card soon.

Going out tonight to try out the Winchester 1886 I'm acquiring from a friend once my plastic arrives.

49 days from receipt (I sent via regular mail from Yukon) to approval. I'm sure I could have sped it up a bit if I had called back sooner.

Wahoo!

Update:

March 25 - Plastic in my mailbox.
March 26 - Wallet empty.

Yippee! Got mine in the mail

Feb. 6 mailed application
Feb. 10 delivered by canada post
March 13 found website, said it was in progress, called in, did all 3 interviews over the phone
March 14 called in to Alberta CFO, approved, license issued
March 25 received RPAL

In Ontario as well, and also received literally the same day. PAL.

Jan. 18, 2014 - Non-Restricted Course passed.
Feb. 06, 2014 - With Canada Post

Feb. 10, 2014 - Received in Miramichi according to Canada Post (verified with signature).
Feb. 17, 2014 - No information available online. Called to confirm reception and verify all needed application info is present; shut down with the "4 to 6 weeks to get in our system" speech.
Mar. 07, 2014 - CC charged.
Mar. 14, 2014 - Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)
It was actually probably approved before today. I have been checking the GC Key website religiously every day since I began this process, and continually getting annoying error alert messages. I called constantly all day long today and got nothing but hold. I get home tonight and read BigSal's post and tried the link he provided. Much simpler to use, PLUS IT ACTUALLY WORKS... Showed status approved. Wish I could get a PAL #, but gonna have to wait for it in the mail! Hopefully early next week! Very excited! No interviews for me or either of my references.

My CC is already cringing from the blow it knows it is about to take...

Cheers and good luck to all still waiting anxiously.

Licence approve 17-MAR-2014; arrived today in the mail! Hate to gloat to all you poor souls still waiting, but man this is exciting! Going online the second after I post this to spend more money than I know I should be spending.
