10/22 advice for an obsessive compulsive bolt guy

Anything he aims at. ;) He's a freaking savant with a bolt gun in a gopher field (CZs mostly). My goal is to blow my tax return on a rifle that allows me to use my "90% as good accuracy" with a crap-ton of lead thrown at gophers way faster with a semi-auto. ;)

I recall a tale of a 50-round-of-.22 "drag race" being won by the guy with the single-shot bolt over the one who only had to fill that fiddly little 10/22 rotary magazine five times...

Had a 10/22, 4 in 5 in a thumbnail size, one flyer. Taking my time single.loading. Couldn't find ammo that improved it. Simply went back to my 452 varmit instead of the rabbit hole. Bought a 552 to go with my first rifle 572, so old school Rem siblings for plinking, no magazines to be reinterpreted.

No Kidd stuff left anywhere in Canada other than a few kidd bolts at Dlask. If you get a tuff 22 built they still have a few kidd single stage triggers but will only sell with a build.

I don’t sell barrels. I had a McGowen 10/22 barrel and now a Kidd Ultralight.

The Ultralight shoots circles around the McGowen and weighs half as much.

If you got the McGowen barrel from me, I would definitely take care of any barrel that didn't shoot well. PM or email to discuss. One of the specs I offer is specific to match ammo suitable for very LR shooting. That spec would not work well with bulk HV ammo.... there is another spec for that type of application.

The feedback I have received has been very positive...

Let me know if I can help

Happy Easter.

^ FYI BX-1 is the 1 round 'rotary' mag, BX-10 is the 10 rd one. Just in case anyone is planning on mail ordering, to note the difference - it almost got me once.

I do not have a dlask 10 22 but I can assure you that dlask customer service is great. I bought a dlask 1911. The front sight was lose in the dovetail. Sent it back they fixed it and return ship the same day.

Well, that's kind of weird.... From the Brownells website

To the OP, if I had the urge to build a new 10/22... I'd be tempted to go with one of the Dalsk thread barrel/receiver combo

That magazine is one of the most reliable ever designed however it should be cleaned periodically.

Reliable. Kinda a pain to load though compared to some others. Also, my buddies 10/22 is not the most reliable gun, so even if the mag is amazing that only gets you so far... I'm sure he could replace a bunch of stuff to try and get it more reliable, but that gun has turned me off of 10/22s, at least the ones coming out of the Ruger factory for $300-400.

OP its hard to argue with a Volquartsen. Won't feel ripped off with a Dlask either. Dlask has the TUF22 now, which takes proprietary magazines that allows you to have more than 10 rounds on tap.

The only time I've seen 10/22 turn into a jam-o-matic is when they haven't been cleaned in ages... guy tinker too much with them... or install a barrel with a match-chamber and try to feed it Remington Thunderbolts...

OP, if you kinda want a 10/22, but kinda not sure if you want a semi... There's always the Volquartsen Summit 22lr

Are you shooting varmints?

If so you might want to move up to a .17HMR. My .22s are now for plinking my .17HMR is what I use mostly now, shoot way less shots due to it's flat shooting out to 150 yards, in fact I even use my .223 bolt less now when venting gophers.

If it wasn't so hard on Forum Members I would post what a .17 does to gophers, not nice at all. :)

Ellwood Epps has the last threaded barrel to leave dlask. I know I sold it to them lol. Great shooter I just didn’t have space for it
