so what is the deal with mags these days? The tuf22 can run the regular banana mags that the rugers always used to be able to use. But now? Can you run those mags or are you stuck with 10 round box mags?

Those 25 round mags for the Tuff22 don't fit in a Ruger 10/22. They have an extra block piece that sticks out in the front. So the weak argument that you can't have over 10 round mags for a 10/22 don't apply to those. You can use a regular 10/22 mag in a Tuff22, but not the other way around.

Ok fellas. I literally know nothing about these sweet ruger builds. But i'm sold. Where do i start? lol.
Spectre Ballistic International, Dlask, TandemKross (available at CSC), Grey Birch, to name a few. The 10/22 is the rimfire version of the AR15 as far as mods go.

Dlask and SBI make the receivers that accept the Tuff22 mags

I'll give Spectre Ballistics International an A+ for service and making things right. My C-71 had some issues. Spectre asked me to send it back and sent a shipping label. In less than 2 weeks the issues were solved and the rifle was back home with the receiver upgraded to the ST-22. Runs great now. SBI C-71 Chassis/ST22 receiver/12.5" match barrel. Dlask rapid mag release/auto bolt release. TandemKross rotary safety

How are the tuf 22 mags as far as reliability go?

Does the fletcher 11/22 receiver accept those mags?
They are very finicky on how you load them. If you push down the little tab that pushes down the spring to load them, they don't like that. If you load them from the top like a traditional mag, and make sure the first round is in a tipped up orientation they work really well. Not as well as the BX 25 round mags do (the BX seem almost infallible), but much more reliable than the butler creeks and others that were out there.

Also the TUFF mags come with an extra "Spine" to quick load the mag. Just like using the tab to push the spring to load, it doesn't seem to work well that way. I have 2 of the TUFF mags so I'm pretty sure it's not just a "my mag" thing.

I don't think it is a"your mag"issue. When you try and speed load them it's hit and miss. I watched the You Tube videos, no joy there. I just load them the traditional way. It's a lot less stressful.

I wanna do a build that can run these 25 round mags. Also looking at the fletcher 11/22 receiver.

Thoughts?

Also looking to go as lightweight as possible for my kids.

SBI Receivers and all but the older Dlask Receivers will accept the Tuff 25 round magazines. I would not recommend a Flecher Receiver for a first 1022 type Receiver. I had a TD Fletcher not worth the added cost. For that money buy a Kidd Receiver.
I've owned a large number of 1022's and the Clones.
I currently own a number of VQ,Kidd,Tacsol,Dlask and SBI rifles as well as builds with Ruger Receivers and Stock 1022's.

All 22 rifles are somewhat picky regarding ammo for the best accuracy.

Until you add in aftermarket barrels, bolts, triggers, stocks ,better then average optics, test a bunch of ammo with a proper shooting bench most won't know the difference a aftermarket Receiver makes.

Buy a factory 1022, a number of factory 10 shot Magazines, a proper scope with AO or parallax set for a 22. Shoot as much as you can, add in a BX or other after market trigger, then shoot some more.

Watch for a package rifle with quality aftermarket parts. (know what these parts are worth new)

How hard is it to use that AR charging latch with that optic mounted?

Looks pretty tight?

It's very easy. You do not have the spring resistance that the AR15 has. Plus, you only pull it back 1.75''. One finger can pull it back on either side. You can also use the side charging handle that SBI refers to as the forward assist.
