1022 Tommy Gun Kit

Something else to consider is adding a Ruger 10 round or the MWG 50 round magazines to an airsoft Tommy magazine body.
The outside of the airsoft mag is thin sheet metal with a cool looking winder.
The mag body is easily opened and the plastic airsoft drum inside can be removed to make room for the 10 or 50 round mags.
Downside is the bodies are not sold separately, the retail price down here is $50.
This one is the first try, just a Ruger 10 round mag with slots cut in the sides so the unaltered airsoft drum slides onto the mag...the cover of the mag body, when attached, holds it all together.

Thats a nice idea and I've looked at doing something along the same line but the masses are clambering for hi cap mags which I can't get a hold of up here at the moment. I wanted to use the tear drop mag and do what you are proposing with a full cover. It looks like you used machined delrin for the prototype. That would be an expensive accessory once its ready for market but its pretty much what I had in mind. If I could just get those tear drop mags life would be so much better and we have lots of real happy shooters.

I have finally had time to put mine together and I have to say the end product looks awesome. Now I only need to buy the mag or make one! I have a 11.5 inch barrel on her which is perfect. 33 inches long!

nice work John!

Thank you Johnnylo. :D I am glad you are happy with the final product. I hope everyone who bought a kit will be as pleased with it. Its been a long haul to get it to this point and I have endeavored to make it as flawless as possible. But with all first run products there are little things that we have found that we would like to do better and we will. So it's on to the second run hopefully starting next week.

You've left your sights on the barrel. What's the sight picture like?

Jason

You won't be able to see the rear sight at all. You will need to move it to inside the rear sight cover and then install the front sight post at the front of the receiver for you to be able to do anything other than "spray and pray". On the other hand that's kind of fun too.:p

I finally got to fire mine this weekend. It was so much better than just firing my regular 10-22. No problems at all. The sighting system was not that bad.

The only thing I noticed, which is not major, is that there is an edge that could be ground down by the cocking handle that my big hand hits.

Over all awesome!

Glad to hear it Johnnylo.

I will look at that area on the receiver and see if we cannot break the edge better on next generation receivers so its not so sharp. I don't notice it on mine as I have a large knob on my cocking handle that looks like what the real Thompson has. It makes cocking the 1022 Thompson soooo.... much easier and it looks and feels more authentic as well.

is there a ETA for the next batch?

Yes there sure is. We are halfway through our second production run as we speak. I anticipate completion by end of October so keep an eye open to Fabsports. As a matter of fact, because we sold out so quick on our first run Fabrice is taking reservations on the second batch. So if you are keen on getting a Thompson kit for your 1022 it would be a good idea to let Fabsports know so they can put your name on one.
