....................

I’m having issues with xcr-m mags dropping out when I shoot.

The case will eject, and the bolt will strip a new round into the chamber, but the mag falls out of the rifle.

Only happens on the xcr mags.

For those who have issues with the mags not locking properly... What is the (approximate) serial number of your receiver?

I have one that would barely hold a C prod mag and wouldn't hold an XCR mag at all. Mine has a serial no under 1000. I am wondering if some of the early receivers were cut wrong...
I compared the mag catches and the slot depth with my LR308. The catches are the same (they are the same as a AR15 as well). The mag catch slot in the Stag is not cut deep enough when you compare it other receivers.

The problem is pretty obvious when you have something to compare it to.
It is also pretty obvious it doen't affect all of them or everyone would be complaining. That's why I'm curious as to the serial numbers.

I corrected mine with 20 min setup on the mill and 3 minutes of cutting the slot approx .025" deeper. It just seemed a whole lot easier that trying to deal with a warranty issue that companies won't acknowledge or return emails over.

The other option would be to remove material on the catch itself.

So the answer for those who don't have other parts to compare to - the problem is with the mag catch slot depth in the receiver, and not the catch itself.

Why are owners so eager to chop away material from perfectly good receivers to fit problematic poor quality magazines? Just don’t use the mags, just saying.

Who is going to buy these butchered guns whenowners sell them? I know I wouldn’t.

there have been 3 fixes for the xcr mags that i've seen posted so far...
ambi mag catch is one (fixed my issue instantly)
modifying the mag by gently prying the upper part of the mag catch hole outward....
and according to Irunguns , they suggested some mod to the stag mag catch engagement pad..... narrowing it so it fits into the hole in the mag better

So you probably wouldn't buy a high performance or racing engine that's been 'butchered' from factory specs either eh?
Like re-machining the block so the bores are actually round, or line boring the mains so they are actually straight and on size? You obviously assume that factory mass production gets everything perfect all the time.

The problem is in the receiver. I chose to fix the problem at it's root, rather than try a band-aid solution.

And no... MY receiver is not for sale because it now functions properly with ALL mags, and ANY mag catch - 100 percent reliably, 100 percent of the time, and I expect nothing less than that from it.

Before my first range session, I switched the stock mag release to an ambi release, as my son is a lefty and I wanted him to shoot it, and the stock mag release wouldn't hold XCR-M pistol mags at all. The ambi release holds the pistol mags until I shoot, and they immediately fall out. Even the stock magazine falls out regularly while shooting. I switched back to the stock release, but haven't been able to get to the range yet. I was really hoping to be able to use pistol mags, but now I'm not so sure I can get that to work. I also had several jams and light primer strikes. For $2000, I would expect better, and I was really hoping to use this rifle this winter for wolf hunting. Not going to happen unfortunately.

Was having issues with IMI mags falling out, gen3 PMags work great. I had a closer look at mag catch and did a bit of work with the dremel and a sharpening stone and removed the shoulder on the catch. Formerly, the catch sat flush with the side of the lower receiver now you can see that the catch is recessed slightly - my IMI mag now seats firmly and cannot be pulled out w/o actuating the release.

I'm gonna have to backtrack a bit on my previous statement that the lower wasn't machined deep enough. Maybe this is a case of a bad batch of mag catches?

I had issues with my previous BCL. After inspecting the catch I could see obvious wear at the forward side of the catch, it was just catching the edge of the hole in the mag and not fully engaging. Couple passes with a file on the catch and it fell right in there as it should. Could be something to look at.

You are correct in that the mag catch sits proud of the side of the mag well, and it shouldn't.
I did my homework as well as looking at an ambi catch, and decided the problem is the depth of the receiver.

I decided that milling the catch to non standard dimensions was going to be way more effort than milling the receiver to correct dimension.

I also fully expect that neither Stag nor the companies importing them are going to take any responsibility for trying to correct this. The best any one can hope for is a 'custom' mag catch that may address the issue but leaves other problems, like not being able to use an ambi-dex, or other custom catch.

I hope they are all listening and correct the receiver (if they haven't already).

Not surprising at all because it would cost them all a big pile of $$$ if they owned up to this apparently minor oversight. A warranty claim will only get you the cheapest 'fix'

That’s correct I would never ever purchase a race engine that has been dremeled by a member on this board or on any other board and only consider an experienced pro shop as well as a firearm. No disrespect but I would avoid purchasing a cut up receiver from anybody else on here.
