1911's Pics Thread

This is a 1911 long slide and Commander I made, rust blued with mammoth ivory grips. Caspian slides, 80 % lowers, all wilson combat bulletproof parts. Super accurate. I threw in a few pictures of the build process in case anyone was interested.

Nice work! Where did you get the 80% lowers from? The jig for cutting the rails looks interesting, did you make that or is it commercially available? I've toyed with the idea as well, but so far I've been treating Norinco's as 85% frames and working on them.

Hey Kristian, thanks. I got these lowers from 1911 builders, not sure where or if you can get them up there though, not sure if this is an ITAR item or not, make sure before ordering because the fault can go to the importer i believe. The rail cutter is from matrix precision, it is fantastic but there is a learning curve, the provide test blocks to practice on. I have tried other frames but so far, 1911 builders are the best in terms of quality. I took baby steps to learn how to do this, i learned by fitting better wilson combat parts on my colt bevertail, barrel etc, checkering is the most difficult imo.

I think I asked them about shipping to Canada and the answer was no. That was probably before the ITAR rules changed though. I've fiddled with a few Norinco's, enough that I wouldn't be too worried about screwing up a frame now at least. I agree on the checkering, that takes a lot of time and isn't much fun. I've only tried on one, not sure if I'll do it again.

Ruger SR1911 Commander in 9mm. Just arrived yesterday after an 11 week wait (thanks CFO Ontario!). Threw on some prettier grips that I found on the EE and she is ready to go.

these kits were also availlable thru Dlask Arms in BC. They have a dealer forum here in manufacturers and gunsmiths subforum. Not sure if they have stock but worth a look.

A classic Series 70 Mk IV Gold Cup National Match. Vintage 1984, and about as minty as they get. Still trying to decide if I need to keep it or not.....
