I remember being really excited when Ruger announced they were making a 1911, but I seem to recall their early promos were with a blued pistol. Not sure now, maybe Mandela Effect? Pachmayr are the grips I use on my go-to 1911. Had them on this pistol for 10 years, I haven't found anything I like better. Its nothing special, but its first on my never-sell list.
This little gem was won at auction a few weeks ago. Colt 1911 Government 45 ACP. No original serial number, but assigned a Firearms ID by RCMP, so 100% legal.
Two trains of thought as to it's origins, based on a few discussions with Colt collectors in the USA and abroad; all who I spoke with confirmed its original, based on the flapper wheel marks, trigger, sights and patina. A few fellas agreed it could be a lunch box special, but smuggled out by an inspector, not a worker, because of the markings. The second opinion that came about from several lads was that it was a demonstrator from a sales kit, potentially used as a reference tool in the Savage factory back the early 1900's.
Regardless, with only a handful of these un numbered originals floating around, and with its perfect patina, I think I made a good choice.
If anyone has any factual info on the background of the un serialed 1911's, I'd like to hear about it, as there is scant information available.
Completely unmolested Series 70 MKIV Gold Cup National Match... Less than 50 rounds ever down the pipe before becoming a safe queen. Super stoked to have gotten this off my buddy!
