2015 - My Black Rifle shoots sub-MOA groups all day long challenge! Revised Rules!

At 100 yards with a 3.5x scope and I have solid vision, it was difficult to aim at the diamond with the chevron reticle I have on my acog. I just couldn't see where I am aiming on the diamond, whether the bottom, middle, or top. This diamond is 1" so where you aim does make a difference. If I had a great magnification or easier target to line my sights to, I know I could do better. I have spend $$$ on the scope and I want to be able to used it. I don't want to change it for the competition. With the new targets I think I have a better chance getting a "true" grouping and seeing what the potential of my Setup is.

FYI: I was able to make between .2-.4" groups using the same target with my savage 10BA and trijicon 20x50 scope because I was consistently aiming at the middle of the diamond and lining up the crosshairs. The magnification does help a lot.

I won't argue with you on this point. My current scope is a Target Dot for the very same reason you find your ACOG hard to use for precision. "Tactical" style reticles suck for precision work. I was going to suggest you make an 5 "aim points" and place it over top of the official target. I have no suggestions for your style of reticle but I thought a 5 MOA dot would work better with a 5" black circle placed on top of the diamond.

You could also just put the scope from your bolt gun on your rifle for the challenge...

Didn't have a printer to print the MOA targets, but I was doing a ladder load today on my 24" custom bartlein AR-15 and got an average of 1.2155 inches with 6 targets (average of 5 @ 1.534").

Going to try and handload all the same load and borrow someones printer to shoot the MOA target later in the month.

It really shouldn't make a difference as all shots do not need to be inside the diamond as per the rules of this shoot.

By aiming at the same place on every shot, the top of the diamond for example, your groups would still remain consistent and since all shots do not need be in the diamond this should still be acceptable.

Cheers D

There's truth in these words. I shot my groups at around 8-12x because anything more than that, my reticle is noticably dancing around and I hesitate taking my shots. Zoom out a bit and I feel a lot more confident with my groups.

Next time I take a stab at it I'll try doing it on the lowest magnification as well to see how that goes.

Is there a stategic reason the diamond is smaller than MOA... JP.

The diamonds are indeed smaller than 1MOA in size BUT they are 1" wide and 1" tall. If your groups are shorter than the height and slimmer than the width, there's a pretty good chance you would have shot a sub-MOA group. ;)

Is that with Nosler 77gr Competition HPBT pills? What's the twist rate of that beast of a barrel?

Yes.

The reason for the ALL rounds in a single target sheet is so that folks don't go cheating by just showing their best 5 random groupings out of a series of attempts. One target, one range visit, 5 groups, 25shots. No exceptions.

If I keep trying to accommodate everyone what will be the point of having any rules as they will be constantly changing.

Sounds good

My iPhone doesn't have a printer, can I use one of the dozens of 5 target standard 1" sight-in targets that I already have?
Just like this one: http://www.brownells.com/userdocs/skus/p_644000002_1.jpg

Yes it was with the Nosler 77gr Competition HPBTs, Twist rate on barrel is 1:7.7.
Will take a photo with the target once I can get it printed up and have a good go at it.
Overall weight before optic of the AR though is 7.2lb. When I built it, I was going for an overall light build. Geiselle DMR Service rifle trigger, Mag Tactical magnesium lower, aero precision upper, BCM KMR 15" keymod rail. JP Titanium adjustable gas block.

I've considered the use of other targets and yeah, makes sense to open it up to any target as long as it is a factory made with 1" grid lines. I've edited the rules for THE final time to allow this. Have at it.

Thank you....it's just that it's a PITA being as I don't have easy access to a printer and already have a stack of suitable targets.
