2015 Waterfowl Thread

view

This is my second year hunting but last week I called in and shot my first duck by myself.

Awesome! That is a great feeling!!

Halloween was a lucky day in the duck blind. I was fortunate enough to bag a giant greenhead sporting some jewellery. Im contemplating getting this bird mounted. Any suggestions for a good taxidermist in southern Ontario? And roughly what do bird mounts usually cost? Any info would be appreciated.

There are only two taxadermists I'll use for waterfowl. Either Steve Dingman of feather and down taxidermy out of picton or Arnold Wright of Owl maker taxidermy out of Athens .
As far as prices it really depends on what you want. I strongly recommend getting the mount under glass and get the bird to the taxadermist as soon as possible.
Do you have any ideas of what you'd like done?

Thanks for the info. Im open to suggestions as far as mount style. I originally thought to do a standing mount, but then saw some pretty neat flying mounts. Either style is appealing. The bird wasnt at all damaged and is current wrapped and laying flat in a freezer

I'd Google image search mallard drake mounts and see what hits you. spend some time searching until you find the one that strikes you. Pop into the taxadermists website and have a peak at what they've done. Once it's mounted it's forever. You need to post photos of the finished product (it'll be a whil)

Nice big greenhead for sure and a bit of bling? Bonus!! Be sure and tell us the banding info!!

I reported the band while still in the duck blind. I then received a nice certificate by email from the USGS and Canadian Wildlife Services which I will somehow incorporate into the mount. Here is the Banding Data, provided.
