2016 "Ugly Gun of the Year" contribution.

Great gun!!!
Can't hate a gun in such a useful chambering. Besides I always say I like the shine off my shooters and my gear in general - not afeared to take it into the bush and actually use it as intended.

The "chambering" is fine... it is the "chamberee" that is slightly off kilter...

Someone told me this saying, in sort of a song format about Toyota landcruisers (part of the TLCA club here) but I think it applies well to rifles, so let's say:

"Function over form!
Function over form!!
The only ugly hunting rifle is the one that doesn't perform!"

Sung in the "farmer and the dell, high ho the dairy oh..." Format

There is an O'Henry commercial that says; "Would you rather be a dancer or a detective?" The answer is; "I want it all!"

In this day and age there is no reason that function and beauty need to be mutaully exclusive... unless you are a curmudgeonly old fart making a point... ;)

Says the guys with the a hole (pun intented) collection of Handi Rifles in thumbhole stocks. :)

No point to be made, esp to those owners of pretty guns that abound. I may have one or five myself, but not to the point of owning a collection of safe queens. :)

I just sold three beautiful rifles this past week to finance a special Christmas present for my lovely wife of 49 years.... new carpet throughout the house! Shhhhh, it's a secret. :)

Only one of them was as-new. The other two were still quite lovely, and their various small blemishes, dings, and scratches, only add to their character. If all of the "pretty" ones end up leaving, the ugly rifles will still work. In fact they will be fine, and continue to insure the freezer stays full.

The Handi's all hit the road three years ago when I downsized the collection... but in their case it was a "beauty in the eye of the beholder" thing... say what you want, but Handi's ARE functional and as for beauty, those rifles got a host of young people out shooting.

I agree on "safe queens"... I am down to less than 20 guns (from triple digits), and I shoot them all.

Edit; however in the interests of full disclosure, my OCD does inflict significant metal anguish when I ding or scratch a "functional" gun...

"Nothin' ain't cool 'til you wear the new off"

I don't mind a few nicks dings, scratches and scuffs on my guns...... I just have a minor obsession with having to be the guy that puts them there......

I have a buddy that likes to take them bawl room qweenerreenahs owt in thuh
bewsh and ware the "knew" awff them.
He snickerzs while dewn this.

There are a few of them around. I am aware of one guy who would literally throw his lovely Parker SXS into the boat when packing up to head back after hunting with it all day.

Gorgeous needs to be admired and appreciated, never abused.

Agreed, intentional abuse is pointless and potentially dangerous...

But, even good, honest, mild-mannered abuse hurts me... maybe that's just me...

Looks like we agree then. :)

"Metal anguish?" ....... Yet another pun. :)
