2025 100 yard .22LR discussion thread

I dont flip out or call people derogatory names. Should I post the swearing and PMs youve sent me threatening me. Or the nasty gram about my first entry in the 100 yard challenge. Your the individual that cried about rimfire becoming competetive and tried to start a thread that was already in place and when it didnt pan out, you jumped back onto the original post by Glen. Did anyone actually submit an entry to your whinning post? I already know the answer. Anyone with half a brain knows exactly who the imposter actually is and he signed back up under a different moniker and his grammar and attitude along with his handwriting points exactly to who he is RABBID PINK SLIPPED. Hes back to being a troll to try and get others into the land he fell upon, called PINKIE SEE YAH LATER. Ill post anytime on anywhere whenever I want. I offered an olive branch a long time ago and that ship sailed. Just like the fake target submitted for the 1/4" challenge. Everything comes out sooner or later. See you at LTV.

Apparently on the East coast. But even $4.99 with tax is well over $5 so none of its true like usual.

Your still sour cuz your entry in the 1/2" club was denied because you didnt follow the rules and we had to read your whining for two years. Then Glen posted a target with ten groups all under 1/2" and you blew a gasket. LOL I submitted my first attempt at the 100 yard challenge and you sent a derogatory PM about how youd beat me but youd submitted four or five entries and your best was marginally better with your $4 Eley sport. This coming from the same ranter that whined about " Not any fun" its all about "competition". The challenge states from the start ITS FOR PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT which is why I posted my first attempt even though it was windy and raining, but hey, thats as good as I could do that day. Like Ive mentioned many times, I only compete against one fool and thats me, dont worry about others. I have nothing to prove other than to anybody.
Should I post what you said about Buck 1950 and me. You need more help than your getting or take your meds.
See youre jealous. I still ended up making and you keep bringing it up. Your 82 and unable to drop it.

You blew a gasket when I turned down your ammo and this all started. 2 years later and you cannot drop it. You keep on poking and poking and starting fights. You won't ignore. We all witnessed your 2 faced and you even nice to someone that clearly you want banned, that you bring up often.

ALL this over turning down your offer. 2 years of fighting, because I turned down the offer.

So guess what bud? GROW UP.. DROP IT and STOP BEING a CHILD. Only troll I see is you. As he doesn't go after you. You go after him

I didn't fake target 1/4 challenge target. Never attempted to try for 1/4"

Did my target show 5 1/2" groups? Yes. Did I fail a technicality yes. But doesn't disprove that I was able to shoot 1/2". Did I cheat ? No. Did I get caught? No. I was honest about the start what I did and patched and signed my targets after 3 shots. Then contuine to shoot 5 groups. If it wasn't for me being honestl, You would never know. That hardly cheating. Crossing off and signing is a legal method of correction. Be it a cheque, document etc.

You went after me, and went on like your so great, you compete against this and that and youre a better shooter, I suck, I'm a cheat.. blab blab. So of course when you shoot poorly, expect to be razzed. Don't sling it if you cannot handle. What I said was hardly close to the stuff you said to me.

Old man you push me to blow up. So don't play the victim. You just had to ignore me and all be well. How many times I asked publically and privately. 3 or 4 times. So who's the bully?

You're unable to forget and you are going to get yourself banned as well.

Again. Went from enjoying shooting to not because you keep in attacking me.

So who is the actual problem?

Me or you?

CGN is going to say you. Because I've asked to be ignored. You told others to ignore me, yet you cannot even do what you tell others Because you get off making me blow up.

So that makes you a sad old troll. Even my doctors are saying you are the antagonist. Because you are old enough to know better and to ignore someone when they say stop.

I just want to get back in shooting. During this tough time. Oh you don't care I had cancer, now my FIL has it. So trying to keep my wife mind off it, while in a insurance claim, while we are being vacated from our house we own.

As for my other challenge, I had many people interested, that hey they might liked, then as they improved try Mel's challenge. I just wanted people to go out and have fun. Sorry for trying something that you forgot what it was like to be like.

So I simplified the targets, less rules = more fun. Then when people just see normal guns, they are less discouraged. As though it's a challenge, many turned it into a equipment comp.

Someone shooting a cooey isn't going to spend 20$ on ammo. They want to have fun. Then sorry i cannot submit your target because its not within 3 inches, try better.

And I'll personally apologize to Buck1950 for my actions. Sorry for me being a azzhole to you. If It means anything. Not expecting to be friends, just co exist on this site.

Longstud. I just want to move on and let the past be the past. Life too short, to sit here fighting over what was started by something stupid. Some people need to live life in someone shoes before they bully them. You have no idea what my life is like. So stop telling me to take my meds. Come over. Sit down for a coffee and explain you why my life is how it is. I'll show you scars from being bullied and beat up for simply how I speak. Things I accomplish, by moving forward.

I don't need a old person, bullying and trolling for your amusement, then when I lash out, say take my meds. Maybe you should stop being a grumpy old man and live the life you have left without anger towards something you started. I know I'm not going to have a full life, like you had. Im lucky to make it to 60.

So got 2 choices. We part ways, move on both ignore each other. Or you continue to shorten your life, and we both get banned.

Glenn and Mel even though I was an azz ain't sitting here dragging stuff out. They can, you can.

Can we get back to our regular schedule program. Sorry for the problems that you are having but I don’t think this is the place. On point now, what have you found as far as accuracy goes , the different in SK ammo. I’ve one lot of sk+ that shoots way better than my first lot of SK+. Have not tried LR or match as it hard to find.

Any of it can do well, really just depends on luck of the lot. I had some of the SK biathlon some years ago that was probably the best shooting SK I've ever had. I even shot it in the summer, although apparently you're not supposed to do something that's opposite of what the box says ;) I couldn't get SK for the last several years until recently. Out of what I have now, Rifle Match seems to be the best lot, followed by HV Match, and then semi-auto my PRS rifle hates it so it's hard to tell about the lot itself until I shoot it more with some other rifles.

SK ammos are probably best described as entry level .22LR target or match ammo. This usually means it's not as consistent as "true" match ammo, such as Lapua varieties (e.g. X-Act, Midas, Center X) or Eley EPS ammos (e.g. Tenex, Match, Team) or RWS R100, R50, Special Match. Of course there may be lots of SK or other entry level varieties (such as less expensive Eley and RWS) that shoot better than some lots of "true" match ammo. But the point is that generally entry level target ammos are usually not as good as true match ammo.

Serious benchrest shooters invariably use top tier Lapua, Eley or RWS (Eley less so in recent years due to quality issues, RWS not so much because of its more limited availability in North America).

SK Rifle Match is the top grade of SK standard velocity .22LR rifle ammo. I have used it often, but not so much in recent years. It's just not sufficiently consistent. It can produce occasional excellent results but they might be best considered random acts of accuracy.

Below, from a few years ago, are some ten-shot groups at 100 with the best of four lots of SK Rifle Match tested. Notice that while there are some groups that are very nice, there are some that are not, especially in terms of vertical spread. All targets are with the same lot. Two different rifles were used, with four for one of them, the last four with the other.

All together there were 32 ten-shot groups. They had an overall average of just over 1.25". The next best lot tested averaged about 1.55" over 24 ten-shot groups.

There certainly may be better lots of SK Rifle Match out there, but as I've run out of Standard Plus ammo, the remaining bricks I have of this lot have been relegated to fouling duty. As unpredictable as "true" match ammo can be from time-to-time, this lot of SK RM, despite a few good groups, is too inconsistent for serious work. (See below in a post to follow for what a poor lot of "true" match ammo can look like at 100.)

There are disappointingly poor lots of "true" match ammo such as Center X (other grades, too).

Below are ten-shot groups at 100 from a few years ago. Again, two rifles were used. This lot of CX is the poorest I've seen. Wind aside, the vertical spread is far too much for acceptable performance. Boxes from this lot had MV spreads of 80 and 100 fps with SD values in the high teens to low 20s. This CX lot had poorer performance than the best SK RM lot I tested. No rifle can correct the problems with this CX.

If nothing else, it's clear that lot-to-lot variation occurs and that testing will confirm how the ammo shoots. The best lot of CX I tested at this time and with the same rifles had a 100 yard average of about 0.920" over 89 ten-shot groups.

I used to have an Eley pairing, an economical flavour for practice and the expensive stuff for match day, that shot to the same zero. But now I'm looking at competing with a rifle that likes SK Rifle Match and would probably love a Lapua of similar velocity.

My two bits on SK ammo and ammo buying strategy.

Rifle Match and Long Range Match are the top rated/tested products of two SK velocity lines. For the price difference between the grades in each line I will always buy RM and LRM over PM,PMS,S+, and Biathlon. That does not mean RM and LRM will always outperform ... I'm just playing the odds. I've had miserable PM and Biathlon and great S+.

Half of the time I shoot Lapua, mostly Cx. Now that is bottom of the line Lapua. My best lots (minimum one case) have been SK and my worst lots have been SK. About twice as many stand out stinkers than winners but I have had two SK lots that have been better than any of my Lapua. If I was on a budget and trying to be cost conscious I might have dropped Cx by now. These comment are based on over 30 lots/cases about equally split between SK and Lapua.

I think a guy can drive himself nuts trying to shoot groups. You can work on your equipment and your skills all you want and one round out of ten pooches your group. Shooting targets for score the odd ammo flier averages out while you work to raise your scores. If you are discouraged by your scores shoot a bigger target.

No one is trying to do surgery with a kitchen knife ... I hope.

I've never bothered to ask before, but do you have limits to the amount of ammunition you can buy/own at any one time?

Here in UK we do.

And over in the Republic of Ireland it's even worse - over there air gun pellets are classed the same as regular ammunition - some shooters are limited to less than 500 at a time, although quite how that works out I have no idea.

tacfoley, as far as I'm aware there's no limit imposed by law on how much ammo a licenced Canadian shooter may possess. Many shooters buy a case of ammo at a time (5000 rounds), especially if it's known to be good. Buying in quantity also reduces shipping costs, which can be considerable in Canada.

A limit as low as 500 rounds at a time wouldn't last some shooters very long. I've shot that amount or more in a week on many occasions.

While we don't have a number limit. We do have a powder weight limit of 225kg before you need a explosive storage license.

Storage requirements for users

You are permitted to store up to 225 kilograms of ammunition (the mass of the explosive excluding the packaging, container, shell casing or projectile) in a dwelling (such as a house, apartment or cottage) or a storage unit without a licence.

Yes. The wallet. ;)

I usually have between 50-100 thousand rounds of ammo at all times. Plus all of my loading supplies for cf and black powder. Heading to Sask later next week and hopefully shoot 10,000 plus rounds while Im there. They load em to be shot so get doin it. Im talking about all the ammo I have and not just rimfire!

As a side note, SK ammo is graded just like its big brother and manufacturer(LAPUA). All the components are loaded and when it fails the spec set its downgraded to a lower grade and continues till its depleted the raw supplies. Then it starts all over again just like Lapua. SK magazine is the bottom of the barrel but can turn in some astounding results just like Standard Plus. My Avatar pic is Standard plus out of an Annie 64MPR at 54yards. It was a very good lot but fliers were always there when not wanted. If your just plinking then its fine but your not gonna win any match where the accuracy is required, PS SK Long Range Match is a higher grade of SK Biathlon. In the rite lot its the JAM out of all of them. Despite what some think, most ammos marked semi auto are faster velocity as the semis dont shoot as quick as the bolts and the desired velocity is achieved with these ammos. Just an FYI Myke

tacfoley - I only have about 20K rounds, more than half is 22LR of 'medium grade' like SK-RM. The 225Kilo of "storage on hand" can run into several hundreds of thousands of rounds when it only 'counts' the 'explosive' and NOT the casings.
