234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Yup need a .23 for that. No other caliber would fill those roles.

Laugh2

No doubt you too noticed that most of the boys that are uber excited about This project share a lot of the same qualitys, those being that they don't know much about guns, haven't hunted much, have little or no experience with wildcats, and they will never shoot out a rifle barrel in this lifetime.

let's not get derailed by the troll...............sorry there hasn't been a lot of progress, wifey has me busy, busy, busy........cause her family is coming next weekend for a week, and she wants me to get 6 months worth of work done in the past 3 weeks, so everything is perfect for her family.............WILL be building the Hyrax at least, next week, come hell or high water..........

Finally got a 100 mtr range built in the pasture with a good "dug into the hillside" backstop and a new bench..........can't leave targets on the back board though as the donkeys don't like it and tear them down........kinda funny critters them donkeys !!!

#1 pick of the litter, good choice:D:rockOn:.

OK I will try to be polite with a dickweed response like that one.

First of all, you probably have a Grade Six education or so, given your spelling and grammar skills. So read slowly, pronounce all the words out loud, and ponder the message.

I actually KNOW and HAVE MET a bunch of the folks that think this is a neat project. I have zero idea what experience, if any, you have with rifles. But some of the folks that are contributing to this thread have "PROBABLY" forgotten more about ballistics and rifles than most rifle shooters. I do not include myself amongst those folks.

But as for me personally, I have owned well over a thousand rifles, I have loaded for and shot rifles in hundreds of chamberings (including dozens of wildcats), and have hunted for almost fifty years. I guess that might not fit your small mind view of who finds this topic interesting, so it sucks to be you.

Gatehouse is a good guy and he is obviously stirring the pot a bit. I am not at all certain the same can be said for you.

No need to thank me JJ-65, it's a public service.

Now let's get back on message.

Doug

Hi Douglas, I think it maybe a good idea to add 23 cartridge family to the original post. We are getting lost as what is 23 penguin, 23 hyrax, etc.
So why not add these new additions to the end of your first post, something like:
234 penguin as 234-08,
234 hyrax as 234- 06
Or what ever

So me being...well....me...and somewhat OCD about doing this correctly, and possessing a failing memory, I went back and read through some of the previous posts to try and capture information so that I could bring it forward for reference purposes.

This way when I forget some info I won't have to scroll back through dozens of pages and people joining the thread will be able to get up to speed without reading through 100+ pages.

Please correct this if I have anything wrong.
Regards,
Dave

"So I guess there is no more input so 230 Hyrax it is for the 23-08..........so now to recap...."

23-222RM = 23 Pipsqueak

23-250 = 234 Lynx

23-08 = 230 Hyrax

23X55 = 234 Penguin

23-284 = 230 Douglas

23 Pipsqueak...........222 Rem Mag (204 Ruger)

234 Lynx................22-250/250 Sav

230 Hyrax..............243/308 Win

234 Penguin...........6.5X55

230 Douglas...........284 Win

"..........any action that is used for a short .473 case head will work for almost all the 23s, the Pipsqueak needs the .375/222 case head but the rest will work on the .473 case head. I personally wouldn't use a 96 to make a Penguin, but it would certainly work. One must always keep in mind the working pressure of the 96 though and this would severely handicap the Penguin. If you pressure up the 96 action they tend to set the lugs, rendering the action worthless. The Penguin may benefit from a long or true medium action, but any rifle made for a 6.5X55 or 6mm Rem, or any of the X57 cases should be perfect. The same may apply to the Douglas, and anything based on the 2.5" +/- case will require a 30-06 length action. Not planning anything on the STW or RUM case so a true magnum length action should never be required."

Qwit skipp'in class and you won't be dizzinformed.............

Just when I was gettin' interested - BAM! burst my bubble.

I agree with what mostly you said except the part about grammar and spelling . I don't have the most skill w a keyboard or spelling book but as for mechanical things I consider myself above the average idiot and I can think of MANY tradesmans who are very smart but a pen isn't their best friend .

This forum wasn't created for English majors but average joes

It always amazes me how the pot enjoys calling the kettle "black..."

Mr. New King...

The NEW KING was a much different project than this- as I mentioned before. The 375 Ruger put H&H performance into a different (and better) package. The various .234 caliber cartridges listed here will only duplicate the .243 or .224 caliber cartridges that already have been done- Using the same brass, same rifles. Nothing new here except a slight change in bullet diameter.

Now, if you want to turn this into a .375 Ruger thread I will happily accommodate you, but I suspect others want to stay on track. ;)

Its not about a bigger better faster anything, its about doing somthing unique and not riding on the
coattails of the big name brands.
Once all the names have been built Douglas will have been the one to do it, no one else.

Bottom line for Ruger is the bottom line, thats it.

I refuse to get sucked into the Gatehouse vortex, and potentially get this thread locked down............however JJ-65, if you're not interested or too knowledgeable to learn anything here then by all means move along. This is just a fun project that I have personally invested about 5K in and had some financial support from some of the posters here. It is nothing but a venture in fun and expanding my own personal knowledge, as far as none of the posters here having any experience...........well let's just say you would be surprised!! I have personally shot out more rifles than you probably own or have owned, add Dennis to that and Marshal and a few other very involved posters here and there is actually a few centuries of experience and potentially millions of rounds fired..........
I'm not reinventing the wheel or building a new improved wheel just adding a spoke, so to speak...........for sheer entertainment value, and have never said different !!

Well, that's what I have been saying. It's different for the sake of being different. It accomplishes nothing new in performance, doesn't allow for magnum performance in a short action or give us a new rifle platform we want or any of that stuff. It's just for schits and giggles.

Nothing wrong with that, if it makes someone happy. :)

Poor JJ-65.

Everyone is picking on him just because he has a sense of humour. :)

Douglas,

have you decided on a firearm for your upcoming deer hunt? I think I would feel almost guilty being th efirst to blood the .23 family..... notice my injection of the word "almost".... lol
