25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I guess I need to shoot more. It took me at least a hundred rounds of .38 spl before I even had a target that was kind of respectable. Lots of shots not even on paper before the last two. I was going to use my last target on the bottom right as my last target, but the 686 jammed. Whoever said revolvers don't jam is a liar. I didn't figure it out until I got home. I couldn't open the cylinder (all six shots were fired as you can see on the paper) but I had to use a piece of wood to tap it open. Then it wouldn't close, wtf I thought? It took me a half hour to figure it out. I looked at all the parts, nothing broke or out of line, and then I randomly spun the extractor rod clockwise and the extractor went flying about five feet away. So today I got to shoot and learn something about my 686. The extractor rod has left hand threads and if it comes loose, jammo. I will try again next weekend.

It was a great day, +8 here and all the snow is melted again. It was good shooting with the 686, I don't even want to look at the papers from my Beretta or Glock, let alone take a picture of them and post it here, it was baaaaad.

Lol, I posted my bad scores cause it's incentive for me to upload better ones ASAP. good luck and good shooting. Can't wait to see your next bunch.
 
Back at the 20 yrd range again. Tried out a few odd n ends. I am getting a feel for how my various guns shoot under similar conditions.

First up was a pair of 357 Mag revolvers. Both are 3" ported barrels. I have never noticed that there is much recoil reduction or less muzzle jump, but the sound is much harsher. These would be a b1tch indoors with no ear protection. Accuracy was disappointing. I think they and I can do better than that. I was not using the ammo accuracy load noted on the side of each gun.

At 35 ounces each, these are not good pocket pistols.

Then I tried the big, heavy 4" GP100. When I pick this gun up I always think it should be a 44. The first 6 shots went a bit to the side, so I moved the rear sight 2 clicks for the last 4. This guns shoots quite well now that Rodger Kotanko did a trigger job on it. Trigger is almost as good as the Smith.

Then for comic relief I tried some pocket pistols. I shot them at 12 yards because I was not sure if they would be on paper. The Savage is a nice, slim 10 shot pistol. It groups well, but to the left. I shoot all guns to the left, which is a problem if the rear sight cannot be moved. Fortunately, I do not have to carry this in my pocket, so off centre sights are not an issue.

Every time I shoot the PPK I am impressed. Good sights, double action and the slide locks back on last shot. For some reason this shape of gun makes the recoil a lot more noticeable than the Savage. I understand the PPK in 380 is quite uncomfortable to shoot.

I had a Walter PP in .380 and it WAS painful to shoot. If the slide wasn't biting the trigger guard was. Didn't matter how you held it.
 
Ah ha Ganderite! I have the same Savage. Does yours have metal or plastic grip panels? The earlier ones like ours had the open style serrations (much finer colt 1911 ones later), but Savage made a switch to plastic grip panels at some point in time.

I've always loved the logo (and "10 shots quick") :) I'm told they made a .45acp version at one time (rare).

It shoots well now. before the trigger job I had no love for this gun. It is growing on me.

I find there is quite a variation in grouping with a given bullet and powder, depending on the amount of powder. This gun prefers a heavier charge. I notice a lot of guys pick a load out of the book and don't try a bit more or less powder. They might be surprised.

Plastic grips.

This is an interesting gun. It is the only 32 I have that shoots from a locked breech. It locks up with a rotating bolt. All my other 32s are blowback.

My father served in the RCAF in WW2 and was away for long periods. He gave this pistol to my mother for protection. We lived in a little cottage in the boonies.
