25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

I've been shooting Bullseye for many years since the 70's and I'm happy when they stay in the black.
Once in awhile I get a nice neat group, but it's not the norm. I'll give it a go one day when I get the printer running again.

And along comes one of the reasons I've decided to mostly stay away from posting...

Should have just stuck with that instead of joining in.

Clob, you can take my name down. Awesome idea for a thread, unfortunately....

I haven't had time to go out and give this a try, but I gotta ask... Why are some people taking this so serious that they would post artificial high scores on a website that they frequent as an anonymous member? If I get out and suck (I expect too, although I have hope for my enfield mk2...) I'll post my suck. You guys don't know me, I don't know you. Why would I care what you think of my scores? Jeeze. It's a frikin pastime. No-one wins a prize here.

re the 100 , it was suposedly shot with the ruger TARGET 22cal pistol shown , the gun is capable of less than an X ring group , so a 100 using 2 hands , even for a beginner ,
is not out to lunch . depending on rds down range & the instructor involved & of course the natural ability of the shooter , elmo probalbly belived the instructor when he said
sight alinement is 1st , 2nd & 3rd the rest just keeps the sight alinement there untill the bullet leaves .
i don't shoot 100's anymore t&r , & never have in slow fire , but slow fire on a t&r with 10 in the black is an easy 95 , in the bulls eye world . for the action guys this should be great training for those few 35 / 50 yd shots you've been miking . breath & squeeze while maintaining PREFECT sight alinement .

Sorry WP, wasn't my intention to start drama. I'll take your name down.

Back to shooting groups folks. Current title holder: rvg with a 97-4X

Tonight I dug out some non-target pistols for comic relief. One of them literally would not hit paper (Uberti Cattleman 45Colt) and another shot 8" too high (Dakota 45Colt).

But the Ruger 45Colt shot well. I could not find my handloads, so shot factory ammo. It kicks more than my usual handload, but grouped ok.

And then I shot two pistols I had never shot before. A brand new pink FMK and a Walther P1 from the back of the locker.

The FMK is the latest Gen 2. Trigger is good, in a Glock sort of way. It comes with a set of replaceable sights. I installed the front sight for one notch up and the rear one notch right, and it is about right for a 6 o'clock hold.

The P1 is a post war (1971) P38. It has an aluminum frame and the heavier slide. Very good SA trigger. For giggles I will compete with this pistol in the last CQB of the season.

Full disclosure.

Shot from 10yds. The red bull is 5" wide. CZ85 Combat. There are indeed 10 hits on the target (what can I say, I used my scanner).

No recoil has it's merits, but is no where near as fun as the real thing;)

Hey.... just trying to lighten this thread up a little. Keep posting those targets.

That's actually pretty neat. The light spots are where the laser hit?

Yes, those faint light spots are the laser hits, they didn't scan well. Much brighter and distinct in reality.

The bottom two dots are a challenge. The left one causes the hits to be displayed. The right one clears the main display.

Works quit well. Gives me some trigger time once the snow and cold sets in... Which it has:(

Ganderite! You seemingly have a gazillion nice toys that you obviously handle very well!

Any Ruger Old Armies in your collection?

Cheers....................................

Ruger Old Army? Is that the black powder gun?

If so, NO. But I do have some clones of the Remington C&B 44, and a Colt 44 C&B. I will try those, too, but there are 30 or 40 guns ahead of those on the list to try.

Looks like fun! If I were you, I would move to 3 yards and just focus on getting all ten in the inner circle. Once you can get all ten in that inner circle, move back a yard. You work on that drill, several times a week for a few months and you'll shoot better than 99% of the members on this board.

Interesting idea....would that work the same with live ammo.....say at an outdoor range where you can move downrange and pick your distance (assuming you are there alone)?

As a new shooter I'm always looking for tips on how to improve.

Yes absolutely. A lot of new shooters think that 3 yards is far too close. When in reality it's where they should be starting to give them proper feedback on the areas they need to work on. I use a target called "Dot Torture" almost every range session. It's a series of 10 dots with specific methods of shooting each. Essentially it's a 50 round marksmanship drill with no time limit. Try it at three yards and you'll soon know why it's called Dot Torture. I've yet to run it clean at 3 yards, usually because I'm going too fast or dropping a shot on the WHO portion.

Here's a link the downloadable target (take the space out of the http):
