25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

I slammed a quart of bourbon and lighter fluid and shot a perfect 100. Unfortunately I was so loaded after the shoot that I wiped my *** with the target and left it in the out house basement at the range.

I trust that my sterling character and reputation for honesty and integrity will suffice for scoring purposes? It would be rather inconvenient for me to retrieve the target...

My shooting is good enough to hold my own with most average shooters, but I am not a "high speed - low drag; Gucci kit" kind of guy. The sprinting part of CQB is not my forte, so I have to shoot slightly faster. I enjoy shooting all my guns and try to shoot different ones each time. Here I am with a pair of guns my age - a Lee Enfield and a Tokorev.
Here are three videos, so you can see what a half blind 70 year old looks like shooting CQB. My "sprint" is more like a fast waddle. Guns are a SKS backed with a 1911 (9mm, 45 or 7.62x25 - can't tell) and a 40 S&W Hi-Point carbine backed with a MP9 or 40, and a Norinco Ar-15 backed with a CZ75.

Note: These video clips show a "hot" transition to the pistol. For increased safety, we now use a "cold" transition. The rifles are all cleared before restarting the clock on the pistol phase.

CQB is great fun. We do a complete practice before each match, plus we have clinics at the beginning of the season, with top notch instructors. In this video you can see a clip where I wore a hat cam plus had a camera downrange on the target. Pistol is stock CZ75 with better sights. If you are in the Toronto area you should join us. Most fun I ever had with my clothes on.

I'd gladly accept, not only for the fun factor but also there is enough to learn from you.The only obstacle is: I'm about 2300 Km west of Toronto area. And the Enfield you're holding almost looks new. I had an AIA once, but never a original lee that nice.

This challenge has inspired me to venture out past the usual 7 meter distance, here is a target that I shot today with a Colt Targetsman 22LR.

I seem to have hit a wall. I can't get 10 bulls, back to back. I used to do it all the time, one handed, against the clock, with this same 22 pistol.

For comic relief I took my 44 cal coal-burners to the range. I cheated and loaded the cylinders in the comfort of my shop, and only fired the 6 shots per gun. I was shocked at how well all three of them shot. Now that I know they shoot a bit high, next time I will take the powder and balls to the range and try to shoot a 10 shot score with each. Each gun was loaded with 25 gr of Pyrodex. Seemed a bit light. Will try 27 gr next time.

I'm sorry Gander! But unfortunately your choice of propellant has annoyed the gentlemen in the Peanut Gallery and your percussion work will have to be disqualified! :) Only the authentic smell and smoke of the Holy Black can be allowed in the contest! I can still win!!!! (If nobody sees me cheat....).

Are you shooting indoors Gander? Do you think a guy can fire black powder at an indoor range without gagging the women and civilians? I just renewed my membership at Phoenix and I had forgotten how manky the air gets from time to time with regular guns...and wonder if black powder fumes might not overwhelm the fans and ventilation...

That was seriously good shooting. The rest of you take note - if you don't have a cap n ball gun...maybe you should!!!! :)

Yes, the cap n ball were shot indoors. They make a lot of smoke and are a good test of the ventilation system.

Somewhere around there there is a strikingly similar Ruger MK 1 with closely styled grips and a factory muzzle brake. They do shoot nice don't they?

Mine is about 40 years old. Has a light barrel. That is why I hung a weight on it. No brake. It shoots well with just about any ammo, but some a bit better than others. Usually I feed it greased stnd velocity.

I learned a lesson today. Always bring an allen key to a gun fight... Against paper. I got my 1911 (used) in the mail on Wednesday and finally blasted a few sheets. It was shooting so far left I was barely hitting paper. Of course, no key to adjust the rear sight. By the end I was aiming at the seven ring on the right just to keep ten shots on paper. Still fun though, this thread has actually got me shooting my pistols more than I used to. The gun isn't covering any shots either, I wish it was around the mag base, I just missed completely on a lot of shots.

^^^It's good to see people getting out and trying this without messing with the targets or reducing the distance.

Once you get your sights regulated you'll find it a lot easier to get proper groups. It's also important to note that some sights are regulated to cut the bull with the top of the front sight, like my Glock. Others, like my Beretta, are regulated so that their POI is on the dot of the front sight. Took me a few targets to get the hang of it.

First and only attempt after teaching class last night. Given the complete and utter lack of practice over the last 5 months, and especially the last 6 weeks (two matches, one in Norway and one in Russia), and my awesome eyesight issues, I am quite happy with this target.
Gun is a Canadian Edition ShadowMate, Double Action first shot with 147gr CamPro bullets and whatever those Norc primers are called (brainfart right now). Shot at 9:55pm or so December 19th, Indoor at AFGC

That's a great group.

Better than mine was with those brick-sized sights!

Sight width really matters, I can't shoot my Glock Amerglo Hacks nearly as well as I can the Beretta with standard Trij's. The difference in width seems minimal until I try shooting the B8 at 25. I may try the TCAP on my Glock, if I ever get back to shooting it regularly.

Ya, well you got some vertical stringing going on there. Probably a bedding issue. Other than that GREAT GROUP. Just got to move it up a little.

Yeah it's funny what a difference it makes. To be honest I don't really understand why; I can shoot at a 1" square at 7y and feel pretty confident in the outcome, and yet shooting the bull with fat sights at 25 is strangely difficult. I can't really explain the discrepancy but I really notice it.

I had a Bersa out last night and the sights are actually very good for factory day sights, but the FS is too wide to shoot well at 25 for sure. But that's such a small percentage of most people's handgun time that I think the ups outweigh the downs on that particular set of sights.

It isn't obvious from the photo, but the grease ring on the lower left shot does cut the inside of the 9 ring.

Sights are fixed and zeroed for 25ish. Were I using this pistol for PPC or Bullseye I'd put totally different sights on it, but for ISPC it's perfect. I have narrow CGW front sight with 1mm FO (red) in it and the factory FO (green) rear sight. I am waiting on some of the new style rear sights to show up, but they won't help with 25yd stuff really, I just like them better (emotional thing). Benched the gun shoots much better. The vertical stringing is 100% my shaky arms and a bit of trigger snatch I was doing last night. Practice is important. I haven't shot meaningfully in probably 6 months. I had the match in Russia 2 weeks ago, one in Norway 5 weeks ago and some classes I taught prior to that. Most of the shooting I've done in the last year has just been demos, except for the Langdon course in July (forgot about that up above), but I was kind of not mentally in it for that course as Clob can attest to.
