An enraged bull squirrel can be up your leg and have your nuts off in seconds. They're nothing to play with. Way to stay cool Salty - i don't think any of us can say what we'd do facing the pure heart-stopping terror of a monster like that. Its things like that which really test a man's metal. :)

Seriously this the debate should be about buffoon defense... a hybrid buffoon is probably the most dangerous animal in the bush... I have seen a whole pack of squirrels backed right off of a fresh nut sack by a single immature Buffoon :shock:
There have been reports of these insidious creatures with lazers mounted to their heads.... clandestine Military experiments in the far north...I'm serious :|

I hear they've spent millions of dollars developing 'military design' cartridges like the .223 to arms these with. Even with the lasers, they're only dangerous out to 1000 yards or so, so I don't let them worry me too much.
 
Hey don't knock angry demon squirrels. They can be vicious. But rabbits, man they are the worst. I saw this documentary once on a killer rabbit. It was killing men. Biting their heads clean off. They finally had to get it with a Holy Hand Grenade. True story. Nasty bastards them rabbits

ROFLMAO....you guy's are killing me....Salty, that was one hell of a good story and the comments are awesome. I'd share a campfire with any of you fellers...then we'd be safe from the "carnivorous lunar activities" of the above squirrels, buffoons and rabbits :shock: :lol: :lol: ...KF
 
Well luckily there are no rabbits where I'm at. And the only bafoons I've seen are usually at the Seagate Hotel. So, I guess I can count my blessings there.

I'm thinking of upgrading my six shooter after this little escapade though I'll tell you that. I have a plan to work on a 500 smith and wesson necked down to .458. I figure it should fling 405 grain cast bullets around 1400 ft/second. Squirell medicine big time! I think I'm gonna call it the 450 Squirellzilla 8)
 
You just gotta chamber that bad boy ".450Sqz." in an over/under 3" bbl. derringer for fast handling and near instantaneous second shot...never know...TWO bull squirrels may be encountered :shock:

When you guys sit back and think about it, Gatehouse has not the slightest intention of getting a 30-06 or a 270 :roll:

He's just stirring the pot (that's what he's good at as that's what he does when he's working) :lol:

He knows the differences between the two----THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE :p

Isnt a 270 really a 30-06 necked down in the first place. However I read the post about Gatehouse raising stink now! :roll:
 
30-06 is a very versatile caliber as has been mentioned here, I guess it come down to what you will be hunting. Long range deer, sheep, goats, cougars etc. I would believe the .270 is better. However a 7mm Magnum might be be ticket for moose grizzlies elk. My dearly departed friend shot bison, grizzlies, moose and elk with his 7mm mag. he also shot scores of deer, moose, cougar, black bears, and wolves with his 30-06 I personally own a .270 and like the legendary Jack O'Conner said "you would be hard pressed to find a better caliber than the .270" which he shot more north american game with than any other caliber. But hey we all have our favs for what ever reason. Just what ever you do is don't buy something that you are afraid of the recoil. shoot well, thoughtfully and consistantly and most rifles will do well
