30-30 a 200 yds cartridge?

My Ruger #1 30-30 shoots sub MOA at 200 with LVR and 150 Hornady SP’s, just not sure they would have the velocity to expand.

I just picked up cil 830 in 30-30, same as Savage 340, I put an older Bushnell scopechief 2.5-8 scope on it and with 150 gr fusion can put 3 rounds in a Tim Hortons coffee lid at 200 yds, this should be an easy kill on a deer at 200 yds? Your thoughts please
That's impressive shooting with your setup...

If i was using a scoped rifle in 30-30 cal and shooting out to 200 yards or maybe 225 yards. I would utilize the Hornady Lever Evolution 160 grain ammo. I have found that the other factory loads are good out to 125 or 150 yards - and that's been done with open sights.

2650 to 2700 fps is possible with a fast powder and a long seated bullet... in a Number 1.
The single biggest issue with the 30-30 is understanding pressures for specific firearms.
There are a lot of really capable cartridges that suffer from this malady.

This observation is based on what?
The list of 200 yard cartridges keeps getting shorter and shorter!

sorry, just replying .ive been a trapper, big game guide, prospector and bush rat for about 50 years. Also member Canadian rangers 14 years, 5 of them on rifle team at yearly cfsac connaught .im not always right but sometimes i get close.30-30 is a good lower power caliber for close range,my own minimum is 2000 pounds of energy at 100 yards,30-30 runs a bit short but works like anything does if you stay accurate to the vitals.sorry i get pissy when super dupers get pissy.

Hard to argue with that! Thanks.

You can get more than that load, but I hit a really nice accuracy load at 38 grains and stayed right there, despite being below maximum. As you can see from the chart you can hold dead on from zero to 220 yards and nver be out more than 2" and retain 1500 ft/lb energy, which is plenty for deer. I don't think mamy people realize what the little .30/30 can do when using modern powders and pointy, boat-tail bullets.
