.308, 00 buck, or slug for grizzly?!

Thats the picture of Phil S & his 30-06 I was referring too...

He carried a 458 Win Mag until he was given a 458 Lott then as he got older like all of us do he switched down to a 30-06...

Those are big ears on that bear...

He's been using the .375 Ruger the most these days. He is very impressed by it.
;)

Thats cause the bears ears are so big you don't need more power when the bears are so small...

It's never going to stop is it... :)

I coming up to Squamish/Whistler tomorrow anywhere to hunt coyotes or is there too much snow to get off the Hwy?

AFAIK Boomer is the only one in this thread that actually does this for a living - i would pay very close attention to whatever he has to say.

X 10,000.................. and I do pay attention to everything he says so much so that I pm him for advise now and then even.......

Boomer did you see this post I just made on the .375 cal 350gr Barnes TSX is now available...

It should be awesome in our 375RUM's....

My apologies. What Boomer says is good advice and I didn't mean to say it wasn't. The mauled person missed the whole bear twice so I felt like he did the best he could under the circumstances. I erred in feeling like Boomer's statement was an attack on the mauled person.

Maybe I was armchair quarterbacking! :D

I've never had to shoot a grizz so I don't know. Seen about six of them, one of which was shot and one of which we scared off with a banger. I don't pretend to know how well I would fare in a stand-off with one. I do think that pepper spray is next to useless in a 30 knot wind.

Now that I've got advice about breaking hips being better than nailing a chest cavity, I might survive such an encounter. Unfortunately, we often get issued shotguns with bead sights and I'm not too sure about how well one can aim a bead after trying it at the range. Lots better than nothing though. I think a ghost ring and a red fibre front would work a lot better.

BB is lucky to be alive. A chest shot is the wrong shot to stop any dangerous game.

African Cape Buffalo (black death) Hunters reason it's in hydrostatic shock that drops these beasts in there tracks, sound like another case of the phenomenon known as HS.

I reckon an Alaskan grizzly outfitter has seen a few big bears in his time...

Not too much snow but you better not be wandering aorund wiht a gun anywhere from Squamish to Pemberton right now.

I didn't believe that was possible with these, especially given the extra tough bullets used. I've read that on goat tests it really works (makes sense to me). But I've never heard (or experienced it) with something like that.

I sure wouldn't listen to you over him. How many bears have you killed again?

Oh, and this is Mr. Shoemaker and a "bear defense" 30-06.

Once again I will remind you I don't give a flying #### what you think. I really need to put that in my sig line.

And I also don't care how many bears you shoot or what you shoot them with. And so far, I haven't been eaten by anything yet either, but maybe Chuck your day will come when you can impress Yogi with your wonderful charm he would never think of eating you so you wouldn't need to carry anything at all to protect you. In fact I suggest you start trying now.

4- 1 oz slugs followed by 4- 00 buck. I figure I'm covered.

Don't get mad cause your wrong. Again.

I didn't say I had shot any bears, I asked if you had. All hat and no ranch I suspect.

Chuck, do you get off reading your own replies? Really?

This site has 60,000 some odd members and nobody is as irratating as yourself. Thats quite an accomplishment when you think about it, it puts you in a league of your own. You seem to think everyone cares about your opinion. You call people names, insult them, troll for them and run them down. Your are an absolute ass in the highest order but your the only one who doesn't seem to see it. I'm not wrong about that, am I? ;)

And don't worry your little head too much concerning yourself about my hat and ranch. I'm not so self centered and unsatisfied with my life where I have to look to the internet to satisfy my insignifigance running other people down on an online chat forum. If you have nothing worthwhile to contribute to a thread, keep your pathetic excuse for an opinion to yourself. While you may believe your somthing special, the majority of folks couldn't care less about what you have to say. Why? Because you are what you are and you've demonstrated that time and time again. Not everybody has the means to spend several thousand dollars on a rifle and or scope. Not everybody would want to. But you seem to think anybody who does anything less is below you. And you think a shotgun is an inadequete tool? Well I could say somthing about that, but I won't. You carry what you want, and everyone else will carry what the want. At no point do you have to be a ####. Of course that would be asking alot I suppose.

And don't worry, I'm not mad. :) <---see? It'll take a Hell of a lot better of a man then you to do that.

Sorry D. for derailing your thread, I'll step back in line now.
