It's three, 3-shot groups or 9 shots of .375 H&H in under 10 seconds.
So they fire 4 shots, reload, fire 4 more shots, reload one and shoot?.
Absolute BS
It's three, 3-shot groups or 9 shots of .375 H&H in under 10 seconds.
I should have added that they have three 3-round stripper clips - one 3-round clip already in the gun and two 3-round reloads. That is a total of 9 shots (reloading twice) in 10 seconds or less.
More BS......
I agree that it's BS. It was a quote from a book so please don't shoot the messenger.
I won't dispute that, but it's always that 1% that gets you. I hesitate to type this, as already I hear the snorts of derision and epithets loudly proclaiming disbelief, but my best friend's uncle was mauled 5 times I believe. I think he was actually bear hunting twice out of those incidents. And no, I wasn't there but his family sure believes it and I have no cause to doubt it as he even went to the trouble of typing a memoir of the incidents. And again I'm not a chemist or biologist, but apparently it was the way his pheromones interacted with a certain aftershave which produced the unexpected (I'm sure) results. His name is Ray (if I remember right) Halliday and I believe it was around the Quesnel area of B.C. Maybe someone has heard of him or this and can substantiate? Since we're all here, anyone got any good close call stories?.....Camp Cook?My god, this is the longest bear defence thread I have ever seen!
I think most of us stand a better chance of being struck by lighting standing in our bathtubs than ever having to put down a trouble bear in the bush.
Having said that I too like to be prepared for the worst so.....
Use enough gun, be competent with what you use and be SMART in the bush (most problems with bears can usually be avoided!)

It does seem faster than human beings are capable of. Maybe the author of that book got it wrongJust count how long each shot is and this guy handles the recoil very well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W167zKjm1R8
That is nothing as far as recoil goes

I have a geologist buddy who is a black bear magnet. Not sure why but they just show up wherever he is.
