My sporting goods purveyor just contacted me...Looks liek he has 50 pc of 375 Ruger brass on his way to my hot little hands.

The firearm itself should be here in 2 weeks or so.

Dies need to be ordered...Already got bullets and powder. It's all coming together:D

So how many months before we see it up FS in the EE? :p

I certainly hope the 375 Ruger is a success, it sounds like a great cartridge. Of course I had the same hopes for the 376 Steyr, too

I'm not Win 94, and I'm not Doug!!;)

I've been paring down my collection for several years, and adding to it when the *perfect* firearm comes up. My rifle line up (not counting sentimental guns or ones that are inexpensive "fun" guns etc) will be:

22LR Stainless HB 10/22 wiht Laminated stock

223 Mdl 700 LVSF

260 Mdl 700, stainless Gaillard HB, Macmillan stock

7RM, Ruger MK II, stainless, TImeny trigger B&C stock

30/30 Savage 340 bolt action carbine

300WSM Leeper mdl 70 Stainless, Smith barrel, Bansner stock

375 Ruger Alaskan.

I think that's about as perfectly balanced a battery I can get, suited for my style of hunting/shooting in North America, so no trading anytime soon.

I think it will be a sucess. It puts a larger caliber rifle in the hands of anyone that can afford a 30-06. The Ruger rifles have been getting excellent reviews from gun writers that I htink I can trust, such as Phil Shoemaker and John Barsnes. Of course, other writers liek Boddington praise it too, but many of them will praise anything.

The Steyr failed because it was too proprietary (Steyr is not a huge seller in the USA) and it didn't quite give H&H performance, which may or may not be relevent in the field, but is in perception of buyers.

If it's not a sucess, it's not a big deal. I'll keep stocking up on brass, and they arent' going to stop makig 375 caliber bullets.:)

The only thing your missing is a sluggun and a crossbow...:D

I can't wait to see some pics of that 375 Ruger... first one on the board I believe!

Well, i do have a couple of shotguns...:)

Might be the first one on the board, might not. It's a RACE!:dancingbanana:

Well I can tell you for certain that I am not racing ya bud... The last time I shot Toomers .375 I whined about it for a week. I am gettin another .270WSM... only this time in a semi. Not exactly a bear caliber... but I know some fellas that will back me up with big-bores.. I hope.:D

Looks to me like this combination should be a winner, but I think there could be two snakes in the grass to watch for. First, did Ruger build the rifle heavy enough not to scare off anyone but a recoil hardened rifleman? After all, the .375 H&H succeeded because it could be use effectively by green riflemen.

Secondly, are component cases going to be available in sufficient numbers to satisfy demand, at a price that is competitive with standard components? If the cases cost what Rigby or even Weatherby cases cost, sales will be depressed. The nice thing about H&H and Ultra cases is that they are affordable.

If these two potential problems are properly addressed the cartridge will succeed, otherwise it could flop.

I am looking forward to reading your initial impressions and receiving a range report Gate.

It is quite light, compared to most 375 H&H's, but most 375 H&H's are too heavy. Anyways, recoil reports suggestt hat the stock designs are good and don't batter you too much!:)

I bought these cases for $1.06 each. WSS lists 375 RUM brass at $1.09, and H&H at $ 0.80, so it's in the ball park. I htik that we will see a bit of a price reduction as it gets more popular.

I am drooling at the thought of a range report:evil:

Just got off the phone and I've got RCBS dies (couldn't find Redding) and 100 260gr Accubonds on the way.

The 260gr Accubond at 3000 fps *may* kill a moose.:p

Thats great Gate....look forward to a review on this rifle. I am waiting for a Marlin XLR myself.....hopefully here in a week. It's like Christmas

Gatehouse,

If you can get a 260 grain AB going 3000 FPS out of that Ruger I'll be pissed! My 375 RUM tosses them at 3000 FPS over 95 grains of H4350 and a magnum primer. Hold on to your fillings, because I'm sure she'll rock you.

2850-2900 fps may be a bit more realistic, unless you use the typical Pemberton handload procedure of a dipping spoon and a 40 of Jack

Bartell's right again... looks like RL-15 will crank the 260 A/B up to 2883fps in the .375Ruger... with only 76.0 grains of powder!
It takes about 22 more grains of powder for the Ultra Mag to get going 3000!
Case capacity yada yada... but I would give the nod to the Ruger for efficiency.... Hell it probably is downright pleasant to shoot!
Check out the nosler data... they even list the most accurate loads.

Wow that Ruger really gets those AB's hummin'! Sounds like a very interesting cartridge.....but I'll never part with my 375 RUM. Looks like I need to change from H4350 to IMR 4350 to pick up some more FPS.....maybe...like it needs it. I'm waiting to see the range report there Gatehouse.

Look what just showed up at my gun pimps place of business?:)
