597 VTR - mini review + pics.

The quote did NOT come from Remington.
My issue with them is in queue, with some long random number for Incident record. According to Remington , " its under review"

Issue unresolved...According to Remington. No response at all, no confirmation, nothing so far.

just an update.

Come on guys please just check if any of your standard metric or imperial sized allen keys fit the side place screws and let me know. Thanks.

Side plate screws fits my 3/32 Allen key just right, the underside one (in front of the mag) is a 1/8 Allen screw.
As with all Allen screw, if your Allen key is a bit used/out of spec it will not go.
Good thing that I checked it, half of them were loose.

Ok just ran out to the bush again and put another couple hundred rounds down the pipe. 100 CCI standard velocity was non stop and damn accurate. Sighted in the scope (Bushnell Dusk till Dawn 3-9 power). At about 75 yards I put 6 rounds on paper and could have covered all 6 with a loonie. Not one FTF or FTE on the CCI. Great round for this rifle.

Put another 150+ of federal bulk pack and had a couple of FTE which caused a misfeed, but out of the 150+ not a big deal. Accuracy was not that great. At 100 yards the rounds were impacting low (The box did saya 3.6" drop at 100 yards) so that was bang on. but there was probably a 4" spread on the rounds. I started holding 4" high at 100 yards and all the rounds were impacting the centre of the target but off left.

The trigger leaves a little to be desired, as you slowly pull the trigger on an aimed shot you can hear the spring (tinging) as it is ready to let fly. nonetheless, with the CCI I find the rifle damn accurate and I am very pleased.

Out of 500+ rounds this week, between the CCI and federal bulk pack I had maybe half a dozen FTE, which were all federal. CCI standard velocity works like a charm and will be my primary round for this rifle.

The two 30 round mags I got from Cabelas work great and getting all 30 rounds in the mags is no problem. Did I mention i love my new rifle. not going to part with this rifle. never I tell you.

We are not amused....and getting less amused by the friggin minute with this.

Was in wholesale Calgary last weekend, and they had one on the shelf, I took a number and waited the 30 minutes, and finally handled it. Very nice and solid feel to it for sure. I was hoping to wait out the Ruger SR-22 mainly because I think their factory and aftermarket magazines are superior to Remington's, but unfortunately, Ruger returned my email today and confirmed they will not be able to export the SR-22 to Canada. Looks like next time I am in wholesale one (VTR) will follow me home. I believe the price was 439.00. I was glad to read the earlier post that the 30 round mags work reliably.

I just picked up mine tonight and did a complete strip/clean, going to the range tommorow. I dont know about you guys but this thing is a complete pain to take apart and clean. Getting the VTR fore end off was a major chore because it was so tight on the barrel. It was even worse trying to get it back on. I dont think I am ever going to take it off again.....I had to put some CLP on the rubber bushing and push and push etc. Anyone else have the same problem. I tried to get the stock tube off, but its gonna take an act of god. I cant get the thing off. I am worried I am gonna break something. Its super tight.

The Canadian number must have short office hours....and no answering service or machine. Three times I have called....the number rings and rings........................................................................GRR

Update....Apparently Remington Canada is having phone system issues...and they are aware that the system is not working properly.
I received a call this morning from them...
They will wait for me to receive my firearm back from repairs at the dealer....I am then to go out to the range with it and test it out.
Any further issues will result in a replacement.
Sounds like the problem may soon be resolved.

Just received a phone call from Remington. They are issuing a brand new 597 to me and it should be arriving soon.

Things are looking up!
