6.5 Creedmoor?

6.5CM with 143 ELDX or 140 ELDM is just about ideal for our small Sika deer. This one was taken at 670yds with 143 ELDX from a 20" Hardy carbon barrel. Furthest I took with a 6.5CM.

WOW ! I would have never thought you can hunt in Ireland let alone own firearms . Excuse my ignorance

Shocker!!! I'm thinking of purchasing a rifle chambered in this cartridge. I'm aware that they are equal to the 6.5 Swede, however there appears to be more of them for sale.
Just a few questions:
-Are they easy to handload for accuracy?
-What was your best weight bullet for accuracy?
-Who has killed big game with them and how did the animal react?
Thanks!
Gary
I bought an off the shelf tikka special edition in 6.5cm shoots lights out with 4350 and 130 grain accubonds and 140 grain game king have shot 2 nice sized whitebucks with her

A Little Example ! JUST think and remember this 👍 a 140 gr bullet shot at a speed of SAY 2800 fps will kill the same no matter what cartridge it is shot from ! So a 260 Rem or 6.5 CM or 6.5x55 Swede all KILL exactly the Same ! So to say one is better then the other is Pure BS . JMO RJ
Creed falls down with bullets over 140 gr, the 6.5 x 55 SE Thrives on bullets up to 160 gr. High sectional density = greater penetration. Why? More cartridge capacity.

Watch Simple Minded Fella on Youtube testing Hornady 160 gr RN in the Creed. 23 inches of penetration with excellent expansion.

Dunno how that is, it has more capacity than my 6.5X54 Mannlicher Schoenauer which was made famous with 156 and 160 grain bullets at
" normal" hunting ranges
Mine has killed a pile of critters.

Indeed.

I've no doubt you can lean on a 6.5x55 harder, especially with the heavier bullets. But a 140gr at 2800 fps from a 24" barreled 6.5 CM is plenty for me.

Gonna try the 140gr CX at 2650 or so for a short range hunting load that doesn't cause a lot of meat loss. They're expanding well in test media at 100 yards so far, without getting to the max load. 127gr if something is farther away....which is about what a 156gr weighs if it loses 18% of its mass.

These are only half of the talley marks on this little carbine, they extend all the way up to the grip.
We haven't added any since my partner and I have had it but we have killed 5 deer between us with it , they were all previously made, and you can bet the 156 or 160 bullet were used . This 20" barreled Mannlicher Schoenauer came from Europe.

There is good and bad, hunting in Ireland. Once setup and paperwork is in order one can have fantastic hunting. On private lands we can hunt deer from Start August until end April. Depending on landowner or lease one often has no bag limit. Deer is day time shooting dawn to dusk. Fox can be shot at night under a lamp or day time. I have about 1 1/2hr drive to my deer hunting area and try get out once a week. Got a little calf today and passed several deer as the recovery would have been too risky being out alone. Terrain can be very wet/slippery and rough.
We are limited to max 30cal. Minimum is 22-250 for deer. We have Sika, Fallow and Red deer.

From the article linked below:

Therefore, if these three cartridges are loaded to the same MAP, the 6.5x55 will provide the highest performance, the .260 the second highest and the 6.5mm Creedmoor will finish third. This is a physical fact and beyond dispute.

There was no reason to develop this cartridge other marketing to make money for Hornady.

What it did do for the shooting community is to dominate the market and deflect manufacturers from making ammo for the standard calibers, further contributing to the ammo shortages and price increases on the previously common ammos.

Hornady benefits, frew of the rest of us do.

Read the article before lipping off.

My creed works perfectly fine, and gets great velocity, and accuracy with 160 grain round nose Hornady interlock bullets. It doesn't just "drop off" compared to the swede.

With reloder 23, and 26, I can beat swede velocities with the same bullet, out of my hunting rifle, with a 22" barrel. With H4350, yes, it drops off. Just run a slower powder. Like the reloder ones I mentioned or H4831SC, there are a few others as well

For those that think the Creedmoor is nothing but a big sales promotion pitch, they should actually look at the original intent and concept of why it came to be , which Dave Emary from Hornady talked to Dennis DeMille of Creedmoor Sports talked about about after a match - that was to design a cartridge that cycled 140 grain Match bullets in the shorter ACIS and Tubb 2000 bolt actions for National Match Highpower competition .
Mr. DeMille was having issues with the 260 Remington in those actions.
What happened after it was made available to the hunting fraternity is all after the fact .
It's original intent worked great, but that seems to be lost on many ......
