No country willingly issued it's troops with inaccurate rifles. Quite a few MILSURPs are capable of very accurate shooting depending on the old variables of shooter skills, ammo quality, and mechanical condition of the piece (bore condition, bedding, and sights). People will plump for different rifles depending on their own experiences and biases, kind of like what breed of dog is best. I really like the Garand because of it's excellent sights. Most folks can shoot better with aperture sights. I like the M14, M1 Garand, Model 1917 Enfield, No4 LE, and M1903 (using aperture in rear sight slide) and 03-A3 Springfields for this reason, but I have had excellent results with a Finnish M27 Mosin and a No1 MkIII LE. Lately I find myself being seduced by an amazingly accurate M96 Swede Mauser. Shade your bets for accuracy by using quality handloads, checking bedding, keeping guard screws tight and shooting at a suitable target.
